The weather man didn t completely cooperate - but it could have been worse. As a result we had the back of our explorer filled with toys to be given to Toys for Tots. We have a free event coming up and it was described pretty well in Chapter J s newsletter by Tom Wacker. So I m including his article for anyone who didn t know just what the DRJR2 is all about. Cal & Beth will be leading the ride after the Gathering on October 2nd. Hope you ALL come along! Remember IT S FREE! The following was written by Chapter J CD Tom Wacker: As I sit here on Labor Day Sunday contemplating the events to come, one in particular jumps into my mind that always stands out in the fall of the year DR JR2 (formerly known as DIRT J). This event always takes place the first full weekend in October and is put on by the chapters represented in the name Chapter D, Chapter R, Chapter J and Chapter R2. The best part is it s a free event for all who attend. I ll try to sum it up for those that may be unfamiliar to the event or may not know the function here goes. The event was started over twenty years ago to be put on by the Assistant Chapter Directors of Chapters D, I, R, T and J as an end of the season free event for the members that will not cost a registration fee in other words FREE. It is to be a chance for the ACD s to organize a function in training for the possible role as a Chapter Director. A rotation was put in place as the name reads and each chapter takes its turn hosting and organizing the event. The event is usually made up of different activities and each chapter is assigned an area to be responsible for, such as registration, 50/50 ticket sales (with 100% of the sales returning to the mem-bers), games, door prizes (although not required) and of course the host chapter is responsible for finding a location to hold the event with two requirements water and electric. It s also common for the host chapter to arrange a ride through the country side for any one that would like to go. As for the expenses, the chapters involved share in the expenses and every effort is made to keep the ex-penses to a minimum, having many things donated, with the largest item being the food. Jan Smith always seems to have a way of coming up with the food to feed the masses and keeps the cost to a minimum thanks Jan. The beauty of this event is the fact that it s a simple event and has been going on for so long there is no need for written rules to follow, only guidelines that ex-ist in the experience of the members and its longevity as an event enjoyed by many. As a matter of fact, I know of two members that have been involved with the event since its inception and I m sure there may be oth-ers. Jan Smith and Karen Bradley have been a part of this event and have the experience to put in on if no one else stepped up and I know they would do just that. However, with the chapters involved I m sure we will be having DR J R2 for a long time and it will continue to be a free event for our GWRRA members to enjoy. Well I hope I have explained this event well enough to give you the basic concept or DR JR2 and I hope to see you at this year s event. Tom Wacker - Chapter J Director If all of you at Chapter W already knew this - you forgot to fill us in If not - you know now! Let s Ride! Have FUN! & Ride Safe Ken & Patti Page 1

For any of you that missed it, we had a really good time. I find it sad that not more of us attended or camped, as it was so close to us. Craig and I camped with Chapter C, John and Audrey joined us on the trip over (they just happened to be on the same route as us) and so we had a great time camping with them. The Region Couple of the Year event was really interesting, as there was only 2 of the 3 districts represented in the contest. Sad news, our Ken and Patti did not win. Good news, our Ken and Patti placed 2nd and so we get them back, soon. Congratulations on doing so well with your interview. You guys did a great job. As most of you remember, Craig and I had a flat tire on the way to Memphis this past summer, and because we used our Gold Book, we met some really nice people in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Well while we were eating lunch on Saturday, we met the Region E couple of the year, and guess where they were from. If you guessed Cape Girardeau, you are right. They belong to the Chapter I in Missouri, and were part of the District Staff as District Couple of the Year and Asst. Directors. The just recently became the Region E COY. Wow! Anyway, they were there and we met, and became instant friends. I had emailed Sherry the article for the newsletter I had put in ours and theirs. We had emailed a couple of times and I figured that was it. Now we know each other and I am sure if we are back in that area we will have to attend a gathering of theirs and meet the rest of the gang. Craig and Region E COY Bruce & Sherry Watkins I are looking forward to that time. So everyone check your membership cards and update them if it is time and we will see you soon. Respectfully submitted by: Tanya White MEC 2011 Couple of the Year Don & Brenda Garner Our newsletter is supported by 50/50 sales held at the Chapter Gatherings. Showing up at he monthly gathering or meeting and buying a 50/50 ticket is all it takes to cover the cost of your newsletter. It would be GREAT to see all of you there more often. Also, color printing costs the chapter much more than B&W. So the mailed newsletters will be printed in Black & White. If you have internet access and signup for emailed newsletters you not only save the chapter postage, but the printing costs as well! Of course, when you view the newsletter online, it is in FULL COLOR and you can print in color if you choose. Contact Ken Kintner to be added to the email list. You will get an email each month when the newsletter is ready! Also if you know of anyone who would like to receive our newsletter by mail or email. Please contact Ken at 902-9893 or Email: ken@vplenawee.com We openly welcome new members! Page 2
Craig & Tanya White Here we are into September already and the riding season is coming to an end. It seems like yesterday that we got our bike out for the April guys only ride. Our ride schedule calendar is clearing, so winter must be on its snowy way. The color tour ride is coming up in a couple of weeks and several other chapter events are soon to follow, bringing to a close the 2011 riding season. Some things to start thinking about over the winter are: 1. Medic First Aid and CPR training (Looking at a Saturday in February) 2. Attending a ARC or ERC training next year 3. Attend District, Regional Rallies and Wing Ding (compete in Top Gun and Amazing Team Challenge) 4. Commit to advancing in the levels program and improving your skill level Our Chapter W needs to pat ourselves on the back for all we do and accomplish. We need to take pride in who we are and how great our chapter really is. In attending the rallies we have attended, we see a lot of other chapters struggling to stay solvent. They are letting the little things become big things and tear them apart. Chapter W seems to keep why we are a chapter at the fore-front and moving forward. Riding safely is very important to us, so acquiring knowledge and friendships are all part of it. I for one, am very proud to be a part of Chapter W. Respectfully Submitted, Craig White, Chapter Educator Page 3
