The Powhatan Signal Powhatan Secondary Newsletter VOL. XVVXIV NO. 3 July 2017 Neighborhood Forum Offered On July 12, a Neighborhood Forum will be offered, featuring guest speaker Police Chief Brad Rinehimer. He will be discussing community policing, crime trends, and crime prevention. County Administrator Bryan Hill will also provide an update on County initiatives, followed by Q&A. Please RSVP to Latara Branch (757-259-4986 or latara.branch@jamescitycountyva.gov). For more information, visit jamescitycountyva.gov. Stay Safe this Summer In James City County, the use, possession, display, sale or storage of fireworks is illegal. This includes fireworks that were legally purchased elsewhere. County residents who have purchased or are in possession of fireworks are encouraged to turn them in at any County Fire Station or call the Fire Marshall s office at 757-220-0626 for assistance. Individuals voluntarily surrendering fireworks will not be criminally charged. Fireworks displays conducted with a permit issued by the Fire Marshall s Office are exempt. Clubhouse Safety There have been several acts of vandalism at our clubhouse, to include graffiti at the playground. Please keep a watchful eye out, and report any suspicious activity that you may see at the clubhouse, and at any of our neighborhood amenities. If you feel there may be danger to property or to a person, please dial 911. To report an incident after it has occurred, please call the nonemergency number: 757-253-1800. PCSA NEEDS MAILING ADDRESSES AND CONTACT INFORMATION Please make sure that you maintain current contact information on file with the Association. This is especially important if you live away from your property in Powhatan Secondary. Any address change or update in email or telephone number should be sent to: Powhatan Community Services Association, Inc. c/o Berkeley Realty Property Management 150 Strawberry Plains Road, Suite A-1 Williamsburg, VA 23188 If you are not sure about what current address information is on file, please give us a call, or send an email. It will only take a moment to check the data we have on file. When you call Berkeley at (757) 229-6810,

(continued from article on page 1) you can ask for Stephanie Fose, sfose@berkeleyrealty.com or Diane Clarcq, dclarcq@berkeleyrealty.com. We will be glad to help update your information to ensure that notices and mailings are sent to the proper address. Our SeaStars The Powhatan Secondary Swim Team is off to a great start! There are 71 SeaStar swimmers on the team this year, and there is always room for more. The team has been practicing since the pool opened at the end of May. Please be advised that the pool will close at 4:00 pm for the usual 3 home meets scheduled on the following dates: Monday, July 10 vs. Two Rivers Thursday, July 20 vs. Wellington Monday, July 24 vs. Williamsburg Community Make plans to come out and cheer on our neighborhood youth at 6:00 pm on one of these evenings, or support us through our spirit day at Blaze Pizza on the evening of Monday, July 17. Go SeaStars! POOLSIDE NEWS Opening weekend kicked-off on Friday, May 26th, and culminated with a neighborhood-wide open house on Memorial Day. We had members and visitors from all corners of Powhatan Secondary enjoying the beautiful weather at the nicest pool on the peninsula! When our lifeguards blew their whistles to officially start the swim season the children who had lined up at the edge of the pool jumped right in and began their summer fun. Luke Tompkins was officially the first swimmer of the season (and first member to sign-in), and after he resurfaced from slipping into the deep end was asked, How s the water? GREAT! he responded. I could not have said it any better myself. As the weekend progressed, the weather forecast went from rainy to sunny and it turned out to be one of the best opening weekends ever! Since then it has been more of the samebeautiful weather and great times at the pooland the Pool committee would love to have you experience it for yourself. If you haven t joined, and would like to see what all the excitement and good times are about, please join us Tuesday, July 4th, for another open house. All residents of Powhatan Secondary are invited to use the pool that day NO MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED! For more information on pool hours and memberships, please visit the website: http://powhatansecondary.org/ and click on the pool drop down. The Powhatan Secondary pool has joined the digital revolution! You can now follow POWSECPOOL on Instagram. Go there to check out the candid shots of the pool happenings. Follow us on Twitter @PowSecPool and get daily weather tweets and other updates. A special thanks to all members of the pool committee, lifeguards, and others who helped get our pool ready for what promises to be another great summer swim season! See you at the pool! Chris Chlorine Walls Pool Committee Chairman

Social News Annual PCSA Picnic The Annual PCSA picnic will be held on Sunday, August 13 from 12:30-3:30 pm at the Clubhouse. Food will be provided by Rocco's Smokehouse. Come join in the fun, and enjoy good food! The pool will be open to all. Rain date is Sunday, August 20. Children s Easter Event Though April seems worlds away now, the Girl Scouts and the Easter Bunny made sure that the children had a wonderful time during the Easter Egg hunt! Interested in Renting the Clubhouse? Are you interested in renting the clubhouse for a family event? Architectural Review Committee With the summer weather, plans for improvements to landscape and the exterior of our homes begin to take place. Remember to consult with the governing documents and the Architectural Guidelines during your planning process and complete the Architectural Review Form (found on the website or you can receive one by contacting Stephanie Fose at Berkeley Realty) prior to beginning your project. The committee members are happy to assist you in ensuring your project meets the requirements for the community. Please contact our clubhouse coordinator, Stephanie Fose, sfose@berkeley-realty.com or call her at 757-229-6810. She will help you get the forms, check possible dates for your reservation, and ensure you have what you need to enjoy the facility. Exercising with Our Pets Walking is great exercise for us and for our pets. Please remember that it is the law in James City County that dogs are walked in our neighborhoods on leashes and kept under control of the owner at all times. This includes our Powhatan Secondary streets and trails. Doggie pet stations are located throughout the community to help you have bags to properly pick up and dispose of your pet s excrement. Thank you for your help in keeping our animal friends safe and healthy.
