The Linguaviva Centre Ltd. Activities Summer 2018 Some things to keep in mind: 1. Please sign up and pay for activities as early in the week as possible as spaces are limited. Sign ups sheets are located in the office. Prices subject to change. For the weekend activities students MUST sign up by the previous Wednesday at morning break. This is crucial for the organisation of the activities. It is also very important for students to be on time for all activities. 2. In case you change you mind after signing up for an activity, please make sure to cross out your name on the sign up sheet as early as possible! 3. Some of the outdoor activities may be changed nearer the time as these activities are weather dependent. 4. The prices listed for weekday activities are for entrance fees only. Transportation costs are not included, however students may use their own transport tickets where valid. 5. Students who do not want to join the listed activities are welcome to watch a movie in the student cinema in the afternoons. 6. Students are also welcome to use the games room during breaks and after classes. 7. We ask all students to respect any tour guides or representatives that accompany the students on excursions.

The museum shows a wideranging and comprehensive zoological collection. is one of the largest unoccupied visitor attractions in Dublin. It s an activity that you definitely should not miss! Dublinia This walking tour is a great way to experience the atmosphere of Dublin city. Price: 5.25 Jeannie Johnston Tall Ship This ship is an accurate replica of the original Jeanie Johnston, which sailed between Tralee in Co. Kerry and North America between 1847 and 1855. During that time it carried 2,500 people on the seven week journey. The replica gives a vivid sense of the challenges faced by emigrants as they fled from poverty and famine. Guided tour. 2.45pm Price: 7.50 FootGolf in Howth FootGolf is a rapidly growing international sport that combines the skill of football and golf together on a FootGolf course. The objective, similar to golf, is to kick the football into a hole on the green in as few shots as possible. Price: 10 (+ 5 deposit for the golf ball) Bodhrán Workshop The bodhrán is one of the oldest musical instruments in the world, used by druids over 2,000 years ago. Here everyone will get their hands on a bodhrán and our professional musicians will teach you the techniques and get everyone playing along. Price: 7 Hill of Tara and Loughcrew The Hill of Tara contains a number of ancient monuments, and, according to tradition, was the seat of Árd Rí na héireann, or the High King of Ireland. The Loughcrew Complex is a historical landmark in Co. Meath and is part of Ireland s Ancient East. The Loughcrew Complex is believed to have being constructed 3,500 B.C. Don t forget to bring a packed lunch and make sure to wear good walking shoes and bring an umbrella. 9.15am Kilkenny Castle and Town Kilkenny is a lovely medieval town in southeast Ireland with a picturesque castle. A great way to meet students of different nationalities. Wax Museum The National Wax Museum Plus has a variety of fun activities, designed to cater to people of all ages. The museum is full of characters and exhibits, from historical figures to cartoon characters, and everything else in between. The museum has much more to explore, such as the Science and Discovery Zone, Recording Studio and Wax Factor. It s great fun for all. 2.15pm Price: 8.50 EPIC Ireland (The Irish Emigration Museum) EPIC tells the dramatic story of the people who have left the Ireland, how these people spread around the globe and how they influenced the world. These stories are vividly brought to life through video, images and sound to create a powerful and emotional experience. Temple Bar Challenge Dublin s hilarious, live action scavenger hunt! This is a scavenger hunt like no other. Each team is provided with our unique G.P.S. enabled smart phone and has to race against the clock to complete the challenges on the streets of Temple Bar. Price: 6 Botanic Gardens Located just 3 km from Dublin city centre, the National Botanic Gardens are an oasis of calm and beauty, and entry is free. A premier scientific institution, the gardens also contain the National Herbarium and several historic wrought iron glasshouses. Marsh s Library Marsh s Library is a wellpreserved library. When it opened to the public in 1707 it was the first public library in Ireland. It was built to the order of Archbishop Narcissus Marsh and has a collection of over 25,000 books and 300 manuscripts. 2.30pm Price: 2 Howth Howth is a popular suburban resort, 15km of the city centre. Enjoy the seaside atmosphere of this charming village with its fishing harbor and marina. We will take a guided cliff walk around Howth with stunning views of the Irish Sea and cliffs. Please make sure to wear good walking shoes. Price: 5 Irish Dance Party Live Irish Music and professional Irish Dancer teaches some Irish Dance steps! Great fun! Highly recommended. Price: 10 Galway Galway City is a thriving, bohemian, cultural city on the western coast of Ireland. Remnants of the medieval town walls lie between shops selling handcrafted Claddagh rings, books and musical instruments. 8.30am Glendalough Glendalough is home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland and one of the top attraction on Ireland s Ancient East. Price includes private coach, tour guide and entry fees (when relevant)! Students will be collected from a central meeting point. Walk in the footsteps of legends on this guided tour. Price: 7.00(minimum 15 students) Bay Cruise Enjoy a 90 minutes cruise from beautiful Howh to Dun Laoghaire. Along the way you will pass by the island of Irelands Eye and Lambay Island to the north. You can view Howth Head, the world famous wildlife sanctuary of Bull Island, Dalkey Island and Dun Laoghaire. Today the collection contains some 3,000 painting, and approximately 10,000 other works in different media including watercolours, drawings, prints and sculpture. Airfield Estate Airfield Estate is an urban farm and gardens set in the heart of the city where you can enjoy a peaceful walk at your own pace. Explore our carefully designed food and ornamental gardens and the urban farm with Jersey cows, sheep, Connemara ponies plus much more. Bray and Greystones are twin resorts and the coastal walk between them has glorious views of the Irish Sea. Soak in the stunning sights of the sea cliffs and abundant wildlife on the beautiful coastal walk from Bray Head to Greystones. Price: 5

A great way to meet students of different nationalities. Aviva Stadium Follow in the footsteps of sporting heroes and look behind the scenes of the Aviva Stadium. The tour gives students the opportunity to get a sense of what the Irish football and rugby stars really feel like on a match day. Price: 5.00 Visit to the Chester Beatty Library Sir Alfred Chester Beatty bequeathed the beautiful library to the Irish nation in 1956. Approximately 22,000 manuscripts, rare books, miniature paintings and objects from Western, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern cultures are housed in the library. (self-guided tour) Skerries Mills Since the 12th century flour has been milled at this unique location. The fully restored complex brings to life the authentic workings of a five sail windmill, four sail windmill, water mill and bakery of the 1800 s. This highly immersive and engaging exhibition puts you right inside the GPO during Easter Week in 1916.
