TYPE M PLUS TM PRESSURE CONTROL VALVES Service Information The Type M PLUS TM Pressure Control Valve is designed for short-distance (up to 50 feet or 15.24 meters) positioning applications. Used in conjunction with the proper positioner, it will replace mechanical linkage, push-pull cable and master/slave hydraulic units. Delivery pressure is determined by the travel of the operator. Any increase or decrease in the valve delivery pressure is automatically compensated for by the valve action. Maximum supply pres sure is 150 psi (10.3 bar) with a temperature range of -40 F to 160 F (-40 C to 71 C). DESIGN FEATURES Several features are incorporated in the Type M PLUS TM pressure control valve for easier maintenance and longer service life. Sintered bronze bearings in cam housing for long wear. Intern centering spring assembly for easy, economical maintenance. Die-cast anodized aluminum valve body, cam housing and handle for light weight, added strength, and corrosionresistance. INSTALLATION The Type M PLUS TM pressure control valve can be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical panel. For mounting hole dimensions and operator travel, refer to the appropriate sections in the sales catalog SC-800. Before installing the Type M PLUS TM pressure control valve, all air lines in the system should be blown clean to remove any moisture, dirt or harmful deposits. WARNINGS - INSTALLATION AND MOUNTING The user of these devices must conform to all applicable electrical, mechanical, piping and other codes in the installation, operation or repair of these devices. INSTALLATION! Do not attempt to install, operate or repair these devices without proper training in the technique of working on pneumatic systems and devices, unless under trained supervision. Compressed air systems contain high levels of stored energy. Do not attempt to connect, disconnect or repair these products when a system is under pressure. Always exhaust the pressure from an air system before performing any service work. Failure to do so can result in serious personal injury. MOUNTING! Devices should be mounted and positioned in such a manner that they cannot be accidentally operated. VALVE PORTION MAINTENANCE DISASSEMBLY Refer to figure 1 on page 4 and completely disassemble the valve portion in the sequence shown. CLEANING Clean all metal parts with a non-flammable solvent. Wash all rubber and plastic parts with soap and water. Rinse parts thoroughly and blow dry with a low pressure air jet. Inspect all parts and replace those which are worn or damaged. REASSEMBLY Refer to figure 1 and reassemble the valve portion. 1. The supply valve assembly (7) is designed to be serviced in kit form. 2. Lubricate all rubber parts with Dow Corning No. 55 Pneumatic Grease. 3. After reassembly is complete, install the operator and test for correct operation and evidence of leakage. ADJUSTMENT The adjustable spring seat (1) is the only adjustment required on the Type M PLUS TM pressure control valve. Changing its position changes the pressure output for all positions since the output pres sure span is fixed by the particular spring used. The pressure span of the valve is not altered. Before adjustment, loosen the jam screw (9) to free the spring seat. Turn the spring seat clockwise to raise the minimum pressure, or counterclockwise to lower the minimum pressure. This will also change the maximum pressure an equal amount. Tighten the jam screw to lock the adjustment. CAM HOUSING MAINTENANCE NOTE: Before performing maintenance on the cam housing, the following information must be noted. All cams in the Type M PLUS TM pressure control valve are marked for position on the shaft. The position index mark indicates the position of the cam on the shaft when the handle is in the upright position. This mark (indented dot) appears on the same side of the cams. With the front (sloped side) of the cam housing facing the operator and with the handle facing toward the right, the position index marks appear on the right side of the cams. SM-800.11

OPERATING PRINCIPLE Type M PLUS TM pressure control valves have very good sensitivity and hysteresis characteristics. The design makes use of a control piston with O-ring to balance air pressure on the top side of the control piston against spring load on the bottom side. The valve is e ssentially a relieving type regulator with a variety of manual operators. Note: Supply pressure must be greater than the maximum graduated pressure for proper operation. DECREASING PRESSURE When the operator moves the valve plunger up, the inlet valve opens, allowing pressure from the out port to exhaust to the atmosphere, from the top of the supply valve assembly. As pressure decreases in the out port, the control piston moves up ward due to the force of the control spring until the exhaust valve again seats due to the balance of force across the piston. DISASSEMBLY The Type M PLUS TM pressure control valve cam housing is manufactured of long-wearing component parts and is designed for years of trouble-free service. Under normal conditions, the cam housing should not require disassembly when performing maintenance. Cam housing assemblies are available and are economically priced if their replacement becomes necessary. (See "Identity Schedule," pg. 3. However, if it becomes necessary to disassemble the unit, it is important that the position of the cams on the shaft in relation to the position of the handle be noted. Also notice which side of the handle hub faces the cam housing, for there are two amounts of travel available; 30 when a preload is required and 45 when starting from 0 psi. NOTE: The MC-2 cam housing portion is not designed for field disassembly. If service ever becomes necessary, it is recommended that the entire cam housing portion be replaced. (See pg. 3 and pg. 8.) CLEANING 1. It is recommended that the cam housing be cleaned as an assembled unit. Clean in mineral spirits or in any nonflammable solvent. 2 Rinse thoroughly and blow dry with a low pressure air jet. 3 Lubricate bronze bearings located in cam housing, cam and cam follower surfaces with NO.107 Lubriplate. REASSEMBLY NOTE: Replacement cams are not marked for index position. If any cam is to be replaced, the replacement cam must be marked identically to the cam it replaces. If the cam housing has been disassembled, the following procedure must be used. 1. Position cam so that the position index mark is facing toward the handle. It is imperative that the position index marks appear in a line at bottom center when the handle is in the upright position. MAINTAINED OUTPUT PRESURE POSITION (NO FLOW) When the outlet pressure force (air pressure x area of control piston) is equal to the force produced by the control spring, the inlet valve and the exhaust valve are both seated. Thus the in and out ports are both closed and the Page 2 INCREASING PRESSURE FROM ZERO When the operator moves the valve plunger down, this seats the exhaust valve and unseats the inlet valve. Air pressure from the in port flows through the unseated inlet valve to the out port and the main piston. The piston moves downward, compressing the control spring until the inlet valve again seats when the forces are balanced across the piston. 2. Follow with applicable detail parts as shown in the appropriate exploded view. 3. Slide shaft through left side of cam housing and secure. NOTE: All cam housings with self-holding handles use two Bellville washers for friction adjustment. In reassembly of these cam housings make sure that the concave sides of these washers face each other. ADJUSTMENT The handle force on all self-holding handle models may be ad justed by means of the friction adjustment nut. This nut is located at the opposite end of the cam housing from the handle assembly. No other adjustments are required on the cam housings. PEDAL OPERATOR MAINTENANCE Under normal conditions, the pedal operator should not require disassembly when performing maintenance. Complete pedal assemblies are available and are economically priced if their replace ment becomes necessary, or for use on other equipment if an overall uniform appearance is desired. CLEANING 1. It is recommended that the pedal operator be cleaned as an assembled unit. Clean in mineral spirits or in any nonflammable solvent. 2. Rinse thoroughly and blow dry with a low pressure air jet. 3. Lubricate all metal-to-metal contact surfaces with No.107 Lubriplate. ADJUSTMENT (see page 5) The large (and thus maximum pressure) adjusting screw (10) controls pedal travel and can be used in conjunction with the smaller (minimum pressure) adjusting screw (8) to establish a max imum and minimum pressure different than the rated value of the valve. The small adjusting screw (8) is used to reduce lost motion at the beginning of pedal travel, or if so desired, it may also be used to establish a retained preload pressure.

NOTICE TO PRODUCT USERS. WARNING: FLUID MEDIA AVENTICS pneumatic devices are designed and tested for use with filtered, clean, dry, chemical free air at pressures and temperatures within the specified limits of the device. For use with media other than air or for human life support systems, AVENTICS must be consulted. Hydraulic cylinders are designed for operation with filtered, clean, petroleum based hydraulic fluid; operation using fire-resistant or other special types of fluids may require special packing and seals. Consult the factory. 2. WARNING: MATERIAL COMPATIBILITY Damage to product seals or other parts caused by the use of noncompatible lubricants, oil additives or synthetic lubricants in the air system compressor or line lubrication devices voids AVENTICS warranty and can result in product failure or other malfunction. See lubrication recommendations below. AIR LINE LUBRICANTS! In service higher than 18 cycles per minute or with continuous flow of air through the device, an air line lubricator is recommended.* (Do not use line lubrication with vacuum products.) However, the lubricator must be maintained since the oil will wash out the grease, and lack of lubrication will greatly shorten the life expectancy. The oils used in the lubricator must be compatible with the elastomers in the device. The elastomers are normally BUNA-N, NEO- PRENE, VITON, SILICONE and HYTREL. AVENTICS recommends the use of only petroleum based oils without synthetic additives, and with an aniline point between 180 F and 210 F. COMPRESSOR LUBRICANTS! All compressors (with the exception of special "oil free" units) pass oil mist or vapor from the internal crankcase lubricating system through to the compressed air. Since even small amounts of non-compatible lubricants can cause severe seal deterioration (which could result in component and system failure) special care should be taken in selecting compatible compressor lubricants. 3. WARNING: INSTALLATION AND MOUNTING The user of these devices must conform to all applicable electrical, mechanical, piping and other codes in the installation, operation or repair of these devices. INSTALLATION! Do not attempt to install, operate or repair these devices without proper training in the technique of working on pneumatic or hydraulic systems and devices, unless under trained supervision. Compressed air and hydraulic systems contain high levels of stored energy. Do not attempt to connect, disconnect or repair these products when a system is under pressure. Always exhaust or drain the pressure from a system before performing any service work. Failure to do so can result in serious personal injury. MOUNTING! Devices should be mounted and positioned in such a manner that they cannot be accidentally operated. 4. WARNING: APPLICATION AND USE OF PRODUCTS The possibility does exist for any device or accessory to fail to operate properly through misuse, wear or malfunction. The user must consider these possibilities and should provide appropriate safe guards in the application or system design to prevent personal injury or property damage in the event of a malfunction. 5. WARNING: CONVERSION, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR When a device is disassembled for conversion to a different configuration, maintenance or repair, the device must be tested for leakage and proper operation after being reassembled and prior to installation. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR! Maintenance periods should be scheduled in accordance with frequency of use and working conditions. All AVENTICS products should provide a minimum of 1,000,000 cycles of maintenance free service when used and lubricated as recommended. However, these products should be visually inspected for defects and given an "in system" operating performance and leakage test once a year. Where devices require a major repair as a result of the one million cycles, one year, or routine inspection, the device must be disassembled, cleaned, inspected, parts replaced as required, rebuilt and tested for leakage and proper operation prior to installation. See individual catalogs for specific cycle life estimates. 6. PRODUCT CHANGES Product changes including specifications, features, designs and availability are subject to change at any time without notice. For critical dimensions or specifications, contact factory. *Many AVENTICS pneumatic valves and cylinders can operate with or without air line lubrication; see individual sales catalogs for details. LIMITATIONS OF WARRANTIES & REMEDIES AVENTICS warrants its products sold by it to be free from defects in material and workmanship to the following: For twelve months after shipment AVENTICS will repair or replace (F.O.B. our works), at its option, any equipment which under normal conditions of use and service proves to be defective in material or workmanship at no charge to the purchaser. No charge will be made for labor with respect to defects covered by this Warranty, provided that the work is done by AVENTICS or any of its authorized service facilities. However, this Warranty does not cover expenses incurred in the removal and reinstallation of any product, nor any downtime incurred, whether or not proved defective. All repairs and replacement parts provided under this Warranty policy will assume the identity, for warranty purposes, of the part replaced, and the warranty on such replacement parts will expire when the warranty on the original part would have expired. Claims must be submitted within thirty days of the failure or be subject to rejection. This Warranty is not transferable beyond the first using purchaser. Specifically, excluded from this Warranty are failures caused by misuse, neglect, abuse, improper operation or filtration, extreme temperatures, or unauthorized service or parts. This Warranty also excludes the use of lubricants, fluids or air line additives that are not compatible with seals or diaphragms used in the products. This Warranty sets out the purchaser's exclusive remedies with respect to products covered by it, whether for negligence or otherwise. Neither, AVENTICS nor any of its affiliates will be liable for consequential or incidental damages or other losses or expenses incurred by reason of the use or sale of such products. Our liability (except as to title) arising out of the sale, use or operation of any product or parts, whether on warranty, contract or negligence (including claims for consequential or incidental damage) shall not in any event exceed the cost of replacing the defective products and, upon expiration of the warranted period as herein provided, all such liability is terminated. THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WHETHER FOR MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR OTHERWISE. No attempt to alter, amend or extend this Warranty shall be effective unless authorized in writing by an officer of AVEN- TICS Corporation.
