Pro Shop News Hello everyone, Summer is coming to an end and we still have one more Summer Series event remaining (Sept. 13 Hurricane Cup Par 3 Challenge). This will be a 3- Man Team event with ALL 18 holes being modified to Par 3 s. Wait until you see the surprise I have in store for you! Friday Finale August 29 th Leave the Pin-In was a lot of fun. Once a player is happy and or comfortable with their ball striking, Putting & Chipping is very important. And to show you how much fun it is to be able to 1- Putt and Chip-In more often be on the lookout for the event on Sat Oct.11 th. Open to Men, Women and invited guests. DID YOU KNOW? If a player s ball in play moves after he has addressed it, the player is deemed to have moved the ball and incurs a penalty of ONE stroke and the ball MUST be replaced. If you do not replace the ball and play from a wrong place you incur a TWO stroke penalty providing you have not committed a serious breach. Doug
NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT I flew to Sarasota on the 20th of August for 3 days (don t be nervous, it was at my expense) and met with Bob, Keith and Denny to go over bids and contracts for the work BTCC must do in conjunction with the DR Horton project. The meeting was extremely productive and it appears to me that discussions are moving forward and within budget, obviously subject to unforeseen circumstances, weather, strikes etc. I will continue to follow the progress and keep all advised. The summer is flying by and Kathleen and I will be returning September 29 and looking forward to a great year at BTCC with all our wonderful friends. Hope all will be in good health with low handicaps! Richard Meyers
Course News We will be doing our final major aerification of the year soon and the recovery time should be fairly quick. The greens will be verticut on a two week basis with light topdressing. We continue to battle the mutations and contaminations in the Champion but we are trying to verticut more often and use higher rates of Primo (growth regulator) to keep these issues at bay. With this we sometimes stress the greens a little so that is why they seem off color and are not a full green color. We are trying to keep them consistent so they may not have the appearance that some would like. You will notice greens that are off color and look scalped. The reasoning behind this is we are trying to provide a smoother putting surface and with the mutations and contaminations that are in the Champion the off grass doesn t tolerate this height of cut. So if you are seeing thinning of turf and these areas looking stressed that is the cause. We have been trying to eliminate the puffy stand of turf that the greens have with these mutations during the summer months. In the past month we have been attacking the weed pressure that occurs this time of year with the temperatures and rain. We have been focusing on tees, slopes, green slopes and fairways and will continue spraying weeds to provide a cleaner golf course to help playing conditions. We continue to try and provide you with quality playing conditions. In doing so, we have to practice sound agronomic practices of aerifying, verticutting and topdressing. It may seem that we are always doing something to the course, and we are. The summer is the most important time of year for us, as course has the opportunity to recover from a productive winter. We appreciate your understanding of what we are accomplishing on the course and we employ these procedures for a reason, and that is to have quality turf and playing conditions in season. Denny
