Adult Athlete Race Information First of all I want to extend a big welcome to all of our competitors on the 5th anniversary of the Windrush Aquathlon. This year we will be raising money for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance to support the life-saving work they do. Post-race massages will be provided by West Norwood Therapies, who are generously giving their time for free, so donations can be made to the Air Ambulance (suggested 5). We will also be holding a raffle at the end of the race with prizes generously donated by Respro. Tickets will be on sale for 1. Thank you in advance for your support. On behalf of the organising committee and Windrush Tri Club we wish you the best of luck and hope you have a fantastic day. Laura Race Director Please read the following information carefully as it is your responsibility to know the course and rules.

Location of Brockwell Lido and Parking Brockwell Lido is located halfway along Dulwich Road, SE24 0PA. The Lido is well served by buses, and is also next to Herne Hill train station. Check Sunday train times for engineering works before you travel. There is very limited free on-street parking on the streets around the Lido entrance, and there is paid parking within the lido car park if you stay longer than 2 hours. There are also disabled bays for those that have a Blue Badge. Bike racks are available just outside the main Lido building. Registration and Race Briefing Registration opens at 07:15am. We suggest you arrive near this time so you have time to register, arrange your things in transition and get familiar with the course, especially if you are coming with a junior racer who will start earlier than the adults. The registration desk will be located outside of the Lido complex on the grass. Please bring your BTF membership card if you have one, and you will receive your 3 refund. If you do not have BTF membership we will give you a day race license. You will be given: o A swim hat with your race number on o A 2016 Windrush Aquathlon t-shirt o A race number to pin onto your run t-shirt or race belt o Goodies from our amazing sponsors o You will be body marked on your shoulders and legs with your race number. There are a few lockers taking 1 next to the pool where you can leave a small bag and valuables if needed. However we recommend you do not bring valuables if possible as we cannot be held responsible for any losses incurred. The Adult Race briefing will be held next to the pool at 08:45. All competitors MUST attend the briefing. The race is run under British Triathlon rules, and we have a Race Official on site to make sure none are broken. Please familiarize yourself with the BTF rulebook here: http://www.britishtriathlon.org/britain/documents/about/competition_rules.pdf KEY RULES: No bare torsos on the run, trisuits must be zipped up, no headphones, no back crawl. Disqualification for nudity, foul language and outside assistance. The Adult Race will start at 09:00 You will be sent your wave number and individual start time separately.

Race Day The Swim The swim will consist of 10 lengths of the 50m lido in the pattern shown on the diagram. You will start and exit at the far end of the lido. This makes 500m. After each 2 lengths you will need to duck under the lane rope, you can do a tumble-turn if you wish. You must touch the wall at each end of the pool with a hand or foot. After 450m the end of the pool has built in steps so please be careful when tumble turning here. The water temperature is cooler than an indoor pool so it is a good idea to get in the spare lane five minutes before you are due to start, to acclimatize and warm up your swimming muscles. The daily lido temperature can be found here: https://twitter.com/brockwelllido Competitors will be started off according to the swim time they put in their registration, and in numerical order in waves. Competitors will be set off at 15-second intervals. The slower swimmers will be set off first and will have sufficient time to swim before the faster swimmers. Please be lined up in numerical order so the starters have an easy job setting you off! You must swim on your front; front crawl or breaststroke. If you swim on your back this is the signal that you are in distress and need to be rescued, so please only do this if you need to be helped out of the race and pool. You may stop to take a short rest at the end of the lane or against a lane rope if you are finding it difficult to complete the distance, however you are not allowed to walk in the shallow end. We have seeded all of the competitors according to the swim times they gave us. However, sometimes people get their times wrong. If you find you are a lot faster than the person in front of you, tap their toes and then pass at the end of the lane. If there is a gap in the lane then you may overtake directly if it is safe to do so and you do not obstruct anyone. Equally, if you are slower than anticipated, and you feel a tap on your toes, stop at the end of the length to let the person behind pass. We will have marshals checking that you adhere to this. The lanes in the Lido are wide and so there should be plenty of space for everyone. Once you have completed the swim, climb out of the pool using the ladder or the end of the pool and WALK to the exit at the back of the Lido to enter transition. You do not have to touch the wall at the end of this last lane. Any competitor found running on poolside will incur a 2-minute time penalty. This is for your safety, as we do not want anyone slipping over. Penalties will be indicated on a large board next to the finish. Please note the following: o Nothing is allowed on the hands and feet during the swim. o No race numbers are allowed on the body during the swim, including under wetsuits. They must be put on in transition.

Transition Only competitors and race officials/marshals are allowed into transition. Transition, as indicated on the map, will be behind the main lido building. We will not have marked spaces for each competitor, just lines, so choose the position you like the best. You must take the route marked around the edge of transition to make the distance the same for everyone. You are not allowed to run over the transition area and other people s belongings! If you are not used to taking part in multi-sport events, this is where you will leave your towel and trainers, and anything else you will need for the run (and your wetsuit after the swim, if you are using one). No nudity is allowed in transition. The best clothes to wear for the swim are ones that are tight fitting and that you can then run in. If you prefer you can put on a t-shirt and shorts over a swimming costume in transition. You must put your race number on in transition: it will either already be pinned onto your t-shirt or will be on your race belt ready to be clipped around your waist. We will have marshals watching transition at all times, but as for any race, any belongings are left at your own risk. Remember, your time in transition will count as part of the race. The Run The run is 5km and will consist of 2 laps of the park. Please note it is NOT the same as the parkrun route. There will be many marshals with bright bibs around the course to guide you on the way; however, it is your responsibility to know the route. Brockwell Park is not flat, and there are 2 short hills on each lap. The finish line is just near the front of the Lido as indicated on the map. The run course is open to the public, so please be aware that there may be other people about, as well as children and dogs. However, as the race is early on a Sunday morning these will be limited. Any foul or abusive language to a marshal or member of the public will result in disqualification.

Refreshments Water will be available at the run start, which you will also pass on the start of lap 2, and at the finish (see map). Bananas and cakes will also be available for free to competitors at the finish. After The Race We will be awarding medals and T-shirts to all that finish the race as well as fantastic prizes for age-group winners. This is thanks to our generous sponsors Balfe s Bikes, MSB Executive, Respro, West Norwood Therapies, Ocean Leisure, Athlete Lab, VeloPhysio and Fusion at Brockwell Lido. For more information on our sponsors please see the attached booklet. We will award prizes to the fastest man and woman, in the following age categories based on the age distribution at our race: 19-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49 and 50+. Please hang about until the end of the race as once we have ratified your times we can award the prizes. We will also be carrying out a raffle with amazing prizes donated by Respro where all proceeds go to the Air Ambulance. We will be timing you during the race, and these times will be available online at http://www.windrushtri.co.uk/page/windrush-aquathlon by the Monday after the race. If you would like a copy of the results posted to you please email us. There are showers and toilets located in the pool changing rooms in the main Lido building. First Aid If you should have an accident, or feel unwell at any point during the race, please contact a marshal. They will then arrange for a first-aider to come to your assistance. It is very important that you gave an emergency contact at the time of registration, as it is this contact that we will get in touch with in an emergency. If you did not give us an emergency contact when you registered, please email us with these details before race day on (aquathlon@windrush.co.uk). There will be a first aid point at the finish area and within the Lido building, as indicated on the map. Spectating This race is very spectator friendly so we hope you will bring your friends and family along. There is decking seating along the far side of the Lido pool where they can watch you swim and cheer you along, as well as enjoying refreshments from the Lido cafe. As there are 2 laps on the run, they will also get a good opportunity to cheer you on at any point on the route. We suggest that good points are near transition, as there is a small hill there, at the back of the park, and next to the finish.
