Livestock, artwork, science projects, food & nutrition items and various plants and vegetables are judged by youth, and both written and oral reasons are provided. Fashion Revue Youth are encouraged to compete in this Fashion event by sewing their own garments and even modeling them. Categories for Fashion Revue can include: Traditional, Recycled, Purchased, Wearable Art, Needle Arts, or Apron Challenge. This event is held in coordination with County Field Day. Leaders Luncheon Traditionally, in April, the Los Angeles County 4-H Office holds a special luncheon at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills. The luncheon is held in honor of our volunteers and celebrate their dedicated years of service. Descriptions Science Fair County Field Day This annual event is designed to promote engineering and science with Los Angeles County 4-H youth. Youth are encouraged to enter science projects for competition, and spend the day participating in fun science and engineering demonstrations. Field Day also known as Presentation Day is a wonderful opportunity for youth to practice the art of public speaking. 4-H youth participate in this event by giving demonstration speeches and participate in impromptu & extemporaneous speaking. This event is held in coordination with Fashion Revue. Summer Camp The Los Angeles County 4-H Summer Camp is primarily held in June or July at Camp Seeley in the San Bernardino Mountains. The camp is a week-long event wherein youth are able to learn handicrafts, go swimming and hiking, act in playful skits and have some summer fun in the sun. Record Book Judging/ Awards Day Throughout the course of the year, youth maintain written records of their yearly work, goal-setting, personal achievements, skill development, participation in various projects, community service and teamwork. This book is maintained to State standards, and are judged once a year and winners are awarded accordingly. Achievement Night On this night, 4-H youth are recognized for their project work as well as community service throughout the year, awards and pins are awarded from the previous years work.
