San Jose is 14-24 away from Municipal Stadium this year tied for the worst road record in the league (Bakersfield). The Giants have fared better of late with a 7-6 record in their last 13 road games (after starting the season 7-18). San Jose has a 4.80 team ERA on the road compared to 3.24 at home. Arroyo Heats Up Shortstop Christian Arroyo is 9-for-12 (.750) with three doubles, two home runs and five RBI s over the first three games of the current series versus Stockton. Arroyo has raised his season batting average from.296 to.333 over the last three nights. Arroyo went 5-for-5 (three singles, two doubles) at the plate on Tuesday to tie a San Jose Giants single-game record for hits. Arroyo became the 34th player in the 28-year history of the San Jose to record five hits in a single game. He s then homered in each of the last two games. Arroyo is batting.486 (18-for-37) with six doubles and two home runs over his last nine games. Last Series Win The Giants haven t won a series since sweeping a four-game set against Rancho Cucamonga from May 22-25 at Municipal Stadium. Since, San Jose has split four series and lost four series. The Giants haven t won more than two games in a row since their season-high eight-game winning streak from May 19-27. San Jose though hasn t been swept since dropping four straight to visiting Lake Elsinore from May 4-7. Few Miscues The Giants have committed just three errors over the first seven games of the second half. San Jose led the California League with 91 errors during the first half. Carbonell, Villalona Return The Giants welcomed back outfielder Daniel Carbonell and first baseman Angel Villalona last week from Double-A Richmond. Carbonell previously played for San Jose late in the 2014 season while Villalona saw time with the Giants in 2009 and was a California League All-Star in 2013. In his first six games with the SJ Giants this season, Carbonell is 10-for-27 (.370) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, three RBI s and a stolen base. He hit just one homer in 56 games with Richmond earlier this season (.146 AVG). Villalona is 7-for-25 (.280) with two home runs and five RBI s in his first six games with the Giants this year. He batted.143 with no homers and six RBI s in 28 games for the Flying Squirrels before his demotion. At The Plate The Giants are third in the California League with a.269 team batting average, but are just ninth in the league in runs scored (4.4 per game). San Jose is tied for seventh in home runs (48), tied for ninth in stolen bases (43) and have hit into the most double plays (84) of any team in the league. The Giants.277 batting average with runners in scoring position is fourth-best in the league. San Jose has also struck out the fewest number of times (566) in the Cal League. Winning The Close Ones The Giants are 8-2 in their last 10 one-run games (11-12 overall). Angel Villalona homered twice and Christian Arroyo also went deep to propel the Giants to a 7-3 victory over Stockton last night. San Jose knocked out 14 hits and never trailed in the contest en route to the win. Villalona (2-for-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI) became the first Giants player to hit two home runs in a game this season. Arroyo (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) homered for the second straight night while Daniel Carbonell (3-for-5, 2B, 3B, SB) had three hits and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Tyler Rogers was credited with the win after tossing 2 1/3 hitless innings of relief. Ray Black started on the mound for San Jose and struck out a career-high six over 2 2/3 innings. Black allowed just one hit and no runs. On Deck The Giants return to Municipal Stadium tomorrow for a seven-game homestand against Visalia (three games) and Bakersfield (four games). Starting tomorrow, San Jose will play 14 out of 17 games at home. Today s Opponent: Stockton Ports The Stockton Ports, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, have won 13 out of their last 16 games.
