LHP BUDDY BAUMANN (2-4, 2.19) TONIGHT S GAME: The division-champion Redbirds are participating in postseason play for the first time since 2010 and for the 4th time in the franchise s 17-year history. Tonight s contest is Game 4 of a best-of-five PCL American Conference Finals and will be broadcast live on 1210 AM, 96.3 FM, and internet webcast available at www. memphisredbirds.com. Steve Selby is on the call. FORMER DIVISION RIVAL, NOW PLAYOFF OPPONENT: The Redbirds and Storm Chasers split its 16-game season series at 8-8. The two teams have never faced each other in the postseason; Memphis and Omaha were division-rivals for 16 seasons in the American Northern division before this season s divisional realignment. Memphis owns the 122-115 lead in the all-time series since 1998. BACKS AGAINST THE WALL: The Redbirds are 2-1 all-time in a playoff series when facing elimination. The 2000 Pacifi c Coast League Champion Redbirds faced a 2-1 defi cit in the fi rst round and won the next two games against Albuquerque. REDBIRDS IN THE POSTSEASON: The Redbirds are 17-12 all-time in postseason competition since 2000. This season marks the 4th postseason berth in the Redbirds 17-year history. Memphis won the PCL Championships in 2000 and 2009, while losing the league championship to Tacoma in 2010. Complete postseason results can be found in the Redbirds media guide on pages 176-178. AT THE HELM: Manager Pop Warner guides the Redbirds into the PCL playoffs after setting a new career high with 79 victories during the regular season. The 2014 Redbirds are Warner s 6th playoff club in his 11-year managerial career. He won the 2005 Florida State League Championship with Advanced-A Palm Beach. COACHING STAFF: Pitching Coach Bryan Eversgerd was a reliever on the Redbirds PCL Champion squad in 2000, pitching 7.2 scoreless innings for two playoff victories. Eversgerd also served as pitching coach on the 2012 Texas League Champion Springfi eld Cardinals. Hitting Coach Mark Budaska served in the same capacity for the 2009 PCL Champion Redbirds. Athletic trainer Jeremy Clipperton served in the same role for the 2010 Tacoma Rainiers, who swept the Redbirds in the PCL Championship. Strength coach Sean Johnson was a strength and conditioning intern on the 2009 champion Redbirds squad. THIS DAY IN REDBIRDS HISTORY: In 2009, Memphis clinched the Pacifi c Coast League American North Division with a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma City. Shortstop Tyler Greene hit a two-run home run in the 5th inning to put the Redbirds up for good. HELPING THE BIG CLUB: Not including rehab players, 18 different Redbirds also spent time in St. Louis this season. Twenty-fi ve of the current 33 players on the Cardinals active roster have appeared for Memphis during their playing careers. DH DIGITS: The Redbirds were 29-31 against American League affi liates. Memphis designated hitters hit a combined.274 (63- for-229) over 60 games, led by Stephen Piscotty s.343 average (12-for-35). WHOLE LOTTA GLOVE: Memphis led the PCL with a.984 fielding percentage while committing a PCL-low 82 errors, both franchise records. Memphis catchers were 3rd in the league with a.383 caught stealing percentage, throwing out 36 of 94 attempting basestealers (Reno led at.469, 61 of 130). Ed Easley was 2nd in the circuit behind Reno s Bobby Wilson, throwing out runners at a.423 percentage (22 of 52). POSTSEASON EXPERIENCE: Seventeen of the 25 members of the Redbirds roster have previously participated in postseason play in their respective careers. Not including then pitching coach Bryan Eversgerd, seven current Redbirds were members the Texas League Springfield Cardinals in 2012: Jermaine Curtis, Eric Fornataro, Greg Garcia, Mike O Neill, Audry Perez, Boone Whiting, and Justin Wright. Pitchers Dean Kiekhefer and Whiting, and fi rst baseman Jonathan Rodriguez were on Midwest League champion Quad Cities River Bandits in 2011. Garcia and Whiting were members of the Appalachian League champion Johnson City Cardinals in 2010. Cutis and Scruggs were on the 2008 NY-Penn League Champion Batavia Muckdogs. WINNING: Since July 1, Memphis fi nished a league-best 41-20 and ended with the 3rd-best overall record in the PCL (Reno and Las Vegas co-led with a record of 80-63). The 79 wins were also the 3rd-most in Redbirds franchise history. Memphis was 6.5 games back and in last place in the division on July 2. EIGHT GO WIRE-TO-WIRE WITH REDBIRDS: Outfielders Tommy Pham, and Stephen Piscotty, catcher Ed Easley, infielders Jermaine Curtis, Scott Moore, and Xavier Scruggs, and pitchers Tim Cooney and Boone Whiting spent the entire 2014 season on the Memphis roster. Easley, Pham, Piscotty, Scruggs, Moore, Curtis, and Cooney were active for every game. Fifty-five total players appeared for Memphis this season, including 22 position players and 33 pitchers. ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE ROSTERS ANNOUNCED: The Arizona Fall League announced the preliminary rosters for the 2014 season. Four Springfi eld Cardinals were named to the Peoria Javelinas roster: outfi elder Charlie Tilson, infi elder Breyvic Valera, infi elder and former Memphis Tiger Jacob Wilson, and catcher Cody Stanley. Current Redbirds pitchers Mitch Harris and Sam Tuivailala and Palm Beach pitchers Tyrell Jenkins and Chris Perry will also represent the Cardinals. Redbirds athletic trainer Jeremy Clipperton will serve in the same capacity for the Javelinas, while Single-A Peoria pitching coach and former Redbirds pitcher (2002, 04) Jason Simontacchi will represent the Cardinals as pitching coach. BIRD BYTES: The Redbirds are 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and have left 18 runners left on-base through the fi rst three games this series... Memphis is hitting.168 (16-for-95) against Omaha in the three games this series after batting.264 against them during the regular season... Memphis 3.97 ERA was the 3rdbest in the PCL... Redbirds pitchers struck out the fewest hitters in the league (967) while Redbirds batters struck out the fewest times in the circuit (910)... Memphis was 60-24 when scoring fi rst this season, which co-led the PCL with Nashville... The Redbirds grounded into a franchise-record 141 double plays.
