Rowes Return Home Two Bruin stars return to their home states for this weekend's games. Federal Way, WA native Kelyn Rowe plays his first collegiate game in his home state on Friday, while Eugene, OR native Brian Rowe gets his second opportunity to play in nearby Corvallis on Sunday against the Beavers. Brian started in last year's contest in Corvallis, winning 3-1. Kelyn starred at Federal Way HS, where he was Class 4A soccer Player of the Year and the Seattle Times and Tacoma News Tribune Area Player of the Year and scored 32 of his team's 49 goals. Brian was a two-time All-State goalkeeper at South Eugene HS and led his team to four league titles and three State quarterfinal appearances. In three years as a starter, he gave up just three goals in league play and set a school and league record as a sophomore by shutting out every league opponent. Scouting The Huskies Washington split its two conference games on the road last weekend, defeating Stanford, 1-0, and losing to Cal, 2-1, in double overtime. The Huskies are 5-1 at home this season, with its only loss coming to then-14th-ranked Cal. Brent Richards leads Washington in scoring with 21 points (8g, 5a). Both goalkeepers hold a goals against average under 1.00 - Spencer Richey (0.96) and Stephen Fung (0.99). The Series With Washington UCLA leads the all-time series with Washington, 19-11-3, and won the earlier matchup in Los Angeles on Oct. 1, 1-0, on a Joe Sofia header off a Kelyn Rowe corner kick in the ninth minute. Bruin goalkeeper Brian Rowe earned the shutout with six saves. UCLA is 6-1-1 against the Huskies in the last eight games played in Seattle. Scouting The Beavers Oregon State has lost six in a row since defeating San Diego State on the road Oct. 1. The Beavers host the Aztecs on Friday before welcoming the Bruins to town. Travis Sanchez leads the team in scoring with six goals and 14 points. Brian Ramsey is close behind with five goals and 12 points. The Series With Oregon State The Bruins hold a 21-4-1 advantage in the overall series and are unbeaten in the last 10 matchups. UCLA won the Oct. 3 matchup in Los Angeles, 4-1, behind a Victor Chavez hat trick. Chavez scored all three goals in a five-minute span in the second half. Reed Williams had the game's first goal in the 10th minute. Josh von Allworden scored Oregon State's lone goal in the 87th minute. A Glimpse At The Pac-10 UCLA remains in second place in the Pac-10 standings behind California, who only has one conference game left on its schedule (Nov. 11 at home vs. Stanford). The Bruins have 15 points with three games remaining (all on the road at Washington, Oregon State and San Diego State), while Cal has 22 points and is in control of its own destiny in the conference race. Bruins Down Matadors In Non-Conference Action Victor Chavez scored two goals in the first 13 minutes of the game to lead UCLA to a 2-1 victory at Cal State Northridge last Wednesday. Chavez's first goal came at 3:11 on a header after a long throw-in by Joe Sofia. He struck again at the 13:12 mark on a bicycle kick in the box. Northridge cut UCLA's lead in half at 40:17 on a goal by Jeremy Hohn, but the Bruins held on for the win, with goalkeeper Brian Rowe making a season-high tying eight saves. Chavez Selected To Teams Of The Week Freshman forward Victor Chavez was selected to the National Team of the Week for both College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer after his two-goal outing at Cal State Northridge. This is Chavez's second time being named to both Teams of the Week. He was earlier selected the week of Oct. 3 after recording a hat trick against Oregon State. Underclassmen See Bulk Of Action Bruin underclassmen have seen the majority of playing time so far this season. Of the 18 different players who have made at least one start, 13 have been underclassmen - eight freshmen and five sophomores. Twenty of UCLA's 23 goals this year have been recorded by underclassmen - 7 by Victor Chavez, 6 by Kelyn Rowe, 3 by Reed Williams and Evan Raynr, 2 by Ryan Hollingshead and 1 by Joe Sofia. UCLA's lone upperclass goal scorer is junior Eder Arreola. Amongst the upperclassmen, juniors Andy Rose and Eder Arreola have four assists, and Shawn Singh and Zack Zerrenner have two each. p. 1 of 2

UCLA Drawing Big Numbers On The Road UCLA continues to be a big draw at the turnstiles, averaging 2,842 fans in its 16 games this season, including an impressive 4,810 average in seven road games. The Bruins played in front of the second-largest regular season crowd in NCAA history on Sept. 24-15,896 at UC Santa Barbara. The week prior, UCLA played in front of what was then the No. 10 regular season crowd in NCAA history, 8,717 at Cal Poly. The Bruins also played in front of 4,259 at Indiana on Sept. 5. Recruiting Class Ranked No. 1 UCLA's recruiting class of 2010 was ranked No. 1 in the nation by College Soccer News. This was head coach Jorge Salcedo's third No. 1 recruiting class in his seven years at the Bruin helm and UCLA's fourth in the last eight years. The other top-ranked classes were in 2006, 2003 and 2004. Amongst the top recruits in the class are All-Americans Victor Chavez, Earl Edwards, Zack Foxhoven, Kelyn Rowe and Reed Williams, along with Joe Sofia and Patrick Matchett, who were ranked in the Top 25 of Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100 Players to Watch. Rounding out the class are two-time adidas ESP participant Reid Hukari and ODP Region IV team members Andrew Tusaazemajja and Bradley McIntosh. Additionally, UCLA gained the services of sophomore defender Matt Wiet, a 2008 High School All-American who transferred from Indiana University. Hollingshead Listed In Top 100 Players To Watch Sophomore Ryan Hollingshead is listed at No. 57 in the latest (Oct. 6) Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100 Players to Watch list (sophomores, juniors and seniors only). Hollingshead ranks third on the team lead in scoring with eight points (2g, 4a). Four Bruins Listed Amongst Top 100 Freshmen Top Drawer Soccer lists weekly a Top 100 National Freshman list, and the most recent list (Oct. 8) has five Bruins included. Listed are defender Joe Sofia (No. 6), midfielder Kelyn Rowe (No. 8), forward Victor Chavez (No. 13), midfielder/forward Andrew Tusaazemajja (No. 22) and forward Zack Foxhoven (No. 63). Coming Up UCLA concludes the regular season at San Diego State on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 pm. It's All Relative Many of UCLA's players come from sports-playing families. Ryan Hollingshead's brother Scott played soccer at UCLA in 2007. Patrick Matchett's father Phillip swam and played water polo at UCLA. Joe Sofia's cousin Brian Brown won NCAA water polo championships at UCLA in 1999 and 2000. Earl Edwards has two siblings who played college soccer - brother Yohance, who played at Brown, and sister Jasmine, who is a junior on the Rutgers soccer team - and another, Naomi, who swam at SUNY Stony Brook. Zack Foxhoven's sister, Danielle, is an All-American at Portland and led the NCAA in scoring last year with 62 points. Their father Brian played collegiate basketball at the University of Denver. Oscar Reyes' father Jorge played professional soccer in Mexico and Germany. Andy Rose's sister Georgia was an All-American tennis player at Northwestern. Kelyn Rowe's sister Bree is a senior defender on the University of Oregon soccer team. 2010 UCLA Stats Name GP GS G A Pts Victor Chavez 16 13 7 4 18 Kelyn Rowe 16 16 6 6 18 Ryan Hollingshead 16 16 2 4 8 Evan Raynr 16 7 3 1 7 Reed Williams 16 9 3 1 7 Eder Arreola 16 9 1 4 6 Andy Rose 16 16 0 4 4 Joe Sofia 15 14 1 1 3 Patrick Matchett 10 10 0 2 2 Shawn Singh 14 13 0 2 2 Zack Zerrenner 7 4 0 2 2 Zack Foxhoven 14 5 0 1 1 Andrew Tusaazemajja 15 7 0 1 1 Matt Wiet 16 16 0 0 0 Chandler Hoffman 5 0 0 0 0 Michael Roman 9 0 0 0 0 Reid Hukari 8 3 0 0 0 Daren Flitcroft 2 0 0 0 0 Dakota Collins 2 1 0 0 0 Oscar Reyes 3 0 0 0 0 Cesar Morales 1 1 0 0 0 Goalkeepers GP GS GA GAA Sv Brian Rowe (1478 min.) 16 16 16 0.97 60 Trevor Hunter (12 min.) 1 0 1 7.37 0 Pac-10 Standings School Overall Rec.
