Our History: Brooklawn Country Club was formed in 1895 and has been operating successfully ever since. Our historic clubhouse was built in 1916. Golf is a cornerstone of our club s history. William Howard Taft, 27 th President of the United States, 10 th Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court, and former Dean of the Yale Law School, was an Honorary Member. Around 1930, our course was redesigned by A.W. Tillinghast, the same icon who designed such fine courses as Baltustrol, Winged Foot and Bethpage Black.
The Club (continued) Excellent Fiscal Condition: Simply stated, Brooklawn has no debt and significant cash reserves. Always Improving: New men s and ladies locker rooms and a new pro shop have all been completed recently. A pool house renovation, including expanded dining area, was completed in 2014 ; both the tennis and paddle facilities are new within the last 10 years; eight lanes of bowling are continuously renovated and improved to accommodate active men s and women s leagues. Club Facilities and Programs Golf 18 holes, par 71, designed by A.W. Tillinghast, iconic course architect. The top-rated course challenges players of all skill levels. The club has a full modern range and separate short game area and bag storage. The Golf Shop has approximately 1,000 square feet of merchandising area as well as storage and office space. The golf shop is operated by the Head Golf Professional. Brooklawn offers a complete range of services, including a robust caddie program that utilizes a mix of professional, high school and college loopers. Brief Job Description Reports to Club President and Board of Governors Primary Responsibilities Strategic and Operational Planning and Implementation: Leads the development of the club's long range and annual business plans including the development and execution of a sound organizational plan. Serves as ex-officio of all club committees. Management Policy: Oversight for all personnel and personnel policies including training and professional development programs. Evaluates the performance of business department heads and conducts regular performance and annual salary reviews. Departments include Food & Beverage, Golf, Maintenance, Tennis/Paddle, Pool and Finance/Administration. Final overall responsibility for the planning and implementation of operational policies, programs, procedures and methods. Management Financial: Responsible for the development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar; monitors monthly statements and cash flow; takes effective and corrective action as required. Is ultimately accountable for balancing the budget. Provides advice and recommendations to the President and committees about construction, alterations, maintenance, materials, supplies, equipment and services not provided in approved plans and/or budgets. Establishes and monitors compliance with purchasing policies and procedures Member Advocacy: Works with membership committee to assist in recruiting new club members. Will also help to create and oversee programs to orient new members and improve member retention. Marketing and Communications: Plans and manages the marketing and communication effort to promote the club's services and facilities to current and potential members as well as outside golf outings and social events. Quality Control: Ensures the highest standards are met in regards to products and services offered, including responsibility for all facilities such as the clubhouse, pool and tennis buildings and the golf course. Candidate Qualifications and Competencies Strong Leadership Skills (Ability to align human and financial resources to realize a vision) Strong Management Skills (Ability to direct, execute and accomplish appointed tasks) Documented track record of success as leader and manager vis-à-vis actual prior experience. Possesses a strong understanding of the country club business through own experience, membership and involvement with organizations such as the Club Managers Association of America and other professional associations and education programs. Stays abreast of current information and developments in the field. Displayed understanding and success regarding financials, budgets, expense control and audit compliance.
Displayed understanding and success regarding marketing, sales and promotion, particularly as it relates to food and beverage, member and outside events. Excellent communicator, diplomatic - particularly as it pertains to the diverse needs and interests of our membership-at-large. Energetic and a good sense of urgency (a can do attitude). Positive outlook and a good motivator. Conducts himself or herself in a responsible and professional manner at all times and displays sound judgment, both personally and professionally. Minimum of five years in comparable general management roles in club management, hospitality or a combination of both. Four year college degree, preferably in a related field, or equivalent work experience. Educational Requirements A college degree, preferably in Business Management or Hospitality Management is highly desirable.
