August 20, 2015 Elementary Visual Arts Instructors Collier County Public Schools 5775 Osceola Trail Naples, FL 34109 Dear Visual Arts Instructors On February 27-28, 2016, the Friends of Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park will be conducting a Third Annual Children s Art Show for grades K-5. The goals of this event are to showcase the talents of our local students and to promote community awareness, appreciation, and enjoyment of our Park. We are inviting your students to submit their best 2-Dimensional art creation for competition to be judged on February 27, 2016. The judges will come from our pool of resident artists and from the Collier County Arts community. The student s art will be divided into two levels for judging: Kindergarten through Grade 2 Grade 3 through Grade 5 There will be awards for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd place, Honorable Mention, and Rangers Pick in each of the above levels. Also, there will be The Peoples Choice award voted on by attendees at the show on February 27th. Art teachers whose student(s) receive awards for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd place, Honorable Mention, Rangers Pick, or Peoples Choice will receive a cash donation for their art class from the Friends of Delnor- Wiggins. Additionally, each student who participates in the art show will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Friends. The Friends will have volunteers to supervise the artwork on Saturday and Sunday. The artwork will be removed at the end of the show on Saturday and reinstalled on Sunday for additional viewing. Volunteers will also collect and tally votes for The Peoples Choice award to be posted on Sunday. Space for this event is limited. If you would like to have your students be a part of the 2016 Third Annual Children s Art Show at Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, please contact Lori Heath Thorn at 239 593-2658 as soon as possible. The guidelines for participation are attached to this letter. We hope that you will join us for this event to be held in the pavilion at the Park. It is a lovely setting, with picnic tables, a roof overhead, and ceiling fans. The pavilion has an accessible ramp for use by all. The Park has beach wheel chairs, too, just call ahead to reserve one. A concessionaire is conveniently located near the pavilion and one of the most pristine beaches on the Gulf of Mexico is just steps away from the show. Introduction: On February 27-28, 2016, the Friends of Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park will host their Third Annual Children s Art Show, at Delnor- Wiggins Pass State Park. The goals of this event are to showcase the artistic talents of our local students and to promote community awareness, appreciation, and enjoyment of our Park. The Children s Art Show is open to all K-5 Collier County public and private schools. Teachers may enter any original 2-Dimensional artwork created by their students, even artwork that will be or has been entered in other art shows. The students art will be divided into two grade levels for judging: Kindergarten through Grade 2 Grade 3 through Grade 5 Certificates of Appreciation will be given to all students participating in the art show. The Friends will have volunteers to supervise the artwork while on display in our outdoor pavilion. On Saturday after the show the artwork will be removed and stored inside. Then on Sunday the artwork will be mounted again on the screening in the pavilion. Awards: Ribbons and certificates will be given for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, Honorable Mention and Rangers Pick in each of the above levels. The Peoples Choice award, voted on by attendees at the show on Saturday (only), will be posted on Sunday, and winners in each level will also receive a ribbon and certificate. Art teachers whose student(s) receive awards for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, Honorable Mention, Rangers Pick, and Peoples Choice will receive a donation for their school for each individual award that their art class is granted. 2

Judges and Judging: Judges for the Children s Art Show will be members of the United Arts Council and/or artists from the community and from our pool of resident artists. The art submissions will be judged before 10 AM on the morning of Saturday, February 27, 2016, for all awards except the Peoples Choice award which will be determined by votes cast by visitors at the Park on Saturday, February 27, 2016. The winning entry will be identified and awarded by 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 28, 2016. Deadlines: 1. Registration: Please sign up to participate by December 4, 2015 Contact Lori Heath Thorn, Park Service Specialist, at Lori.HeathThorn@dep.state.fl.us or phone her at 239.593.2658 Space is limited and the number of entries your school may submit is based, in part, on the number of schools that participate. Please contact Lori if you have questions. 2. Delivery: Thursday, February 25 or Friday February 26, 2016 between the hours of 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Art submissions must be delivered to the CSO Room at Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, 11135 Gulfshore Drive, Naples, Florida 34108. Check at gate for directions to the CSO Room where the artwork will be stored. 3. Pick-up: Sunday, February 28, 2016 immediately following the show at 6:00 PM or, Monday, February 29, 2016 between the hours of 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM in the CSO Room 3

Guidelines: 1. The theme of the Children s Art Show is The Real Florida and all artwork should reflect the natural and cultural resources of Florida. Some suggested categories are listed below: Wildlife found at the Park or in the surrounding areas birds, mammals, fish, shells, sea turtles, gopher tortoises Recreation scenes at the Park swimming, boating, paddle-boarding, surfing, picnicking, shelling, sunbathing, snorkeling Natural seascapes and landscapes sunsets, plants, dunes, estuaries and bays, waters of the Gulf Cultural history early settlers and Native Americans such as the Calusa, who once occupied the area Please send artwork that is in keeping with these guidelines. 2. All artwork must be matted or mounted using sturdy material. Please use material heavier than construction paper. We must punch holes in the mountings and use paper clips to hang the artwork from plastic screening. 3. All artwork must have a title. Place the title in a 1 X 6 space on the front of the art piece, preferably centered at the bottom. The student may attach the title or write it by hand on the mounting material. Do not include the student s name or the school on the front of the entered artwork. 4. Size for the artwork including matting or mounting material should not exceed 12 X 18. 5. Attach the Student Art Submission Form (page 5) on the back of the artwork. No names on the front, please. To enter your students artwork in this show, please contact Lori Heath Thorn Lori.HeathThorn@dep.state.fl.us with the following information: School Name, Student Name, Student Grade Level, Teacher Name and contact information. Please provide a phone number that we can use to inform you if one or more of your students placed in the show. 4
