PEE WEE BASKETBALL CAMP Registration October 15 Mon.-Fri. 9am-7pm Cost - $15 per person When - November 27, 28, 2007 Age Group - 5-7 yrs old (boys and girls) Time - 6:30pm-8pm This 2-day camp is designed as an introduction to basketball for kids. Participants will be taught the basic skills of the game, dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. START SMART BASKETBALL Is a developmentally appropriate basketball program for children 3-5 years old. The program prepares children for organized basketball in a fun non-threatening environment. Start Smart Basketball prepares children and their parents for organized basketball without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. This is a six week parent-child program. The program meets on Saturdays at 9am for an hour. Registration Sept. 5-Oct. 3, 2007. GIRLS LIKE ME (After School Care Service) Registration - Weekly starting September 5, 2007 Monday-Friday 9am-7pm Cost - $40 per week Age Group - 10-15 yrs old Time: 3pm-7pm Provide positive activities for girls ages 10-15, such as team building, self esteem development, and an outlet for the girls to utilize creative abilities through dance. Transportation is not provided. START SMART BASEBALL Is a developmentally appropriate baseball program for children 3-4 years old. The program prepares children for organized T-Ball in a fun nonthreatening environment. Start Smart Baseball prepares children for organized ball without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. This is a six week parent-child program. The program meets on Mondays at 6pm for an hour. Registration Feb. 1-March 7, 2008. Program Date April 7-May 12, 2008 Location: T-Ball Field Fee: $35-Resident/$45-Nonresident Instructor: Tim Phelps Participants will receive a ball, bat, glove, koosh balls, and participant manual. SPRING SOCCER This program is for boys and girls ages 4-12 years old. Registration February 1-29, 2008 Monday-Friday 9am-7pm This is an intramural league. Cost - $40/resident $50/non- resident Opening Day- April 12, 2008 Location - Soccer Fields-Park Drive START SMART SOCCER Is a developmentally appropriate soccer program for children 3-5 years old. The program prepares children for organized soccer in a fun non-threatening environment. GIRLS FAST PITCH SOFTBALL CLINIC City of Forest Park Recreation and Leisure Services will be hosting softball clinics for girls ages 8-16 years old. These clinics will cover the basic fundamentals of fast pitch softball: throwing, catching and fielding. Clinic dates are: October 13, November 10, December 8, 2007 10am-12noon. Coaches are welcome to participate and learn. Fee: $35 per person. Instruction by GA Extreme GIRLS SOFTBALL ASA Girls Softball will once again be offered in the City of Forest Park. This program will be for girls ages 7-17 years old. Registration will begin February 1, 2008 Monday-Friday 9am-7pm. Fee: $85/$95 per person. NO TEAM ENTRIES FOR GIRLS 10-14 YEARS OLD. HIGH SCHOOL (AGES 15-17) TEAMS ACCEPTED. BATON Classes taught by the staff of the Dazzling Elite Diamonds formerly known as Georgia s Youth on Parade. These classes will offer instruction in baton twirling for students ages 5-18 years of age, and Pom-Pom Dance classes. Classes run September 2007 thru April 2008 Location: Community Building #4 Cost: $10 per week per class. Student enrolling in both baton & Pom-Pom classes $15/both classes Time: 6:30pm-7:15pm-Baton ages 5-8 yrs 7:15pm-8pm-Baton ages 9-18 yrs 8pm-8:45pm-Pom-Pom/Dance 5-18 yrs Director: Valerie Harmon Pageant Coach: Nikki Parham WEIGHT LIFTING This program is for boys and girls ages 13-17 years old. In this class participants will learn how to lift weights properly and safely. The class meet on Tuesday and Thursday 5pm-6pm each month. CHESS CLUB Join the Chess Club! Come and stimulate your mind. Forest Park Chess Club is for beginners to advanced players, ages 13 years and over. FPRLS Guide September 2007-March 2008 DEFENSIVE DRIVING Age Group - 15 & Over Requirement - Must have Learner s Permit or Driver s License Cost - $20/residents - $30/nonresidents When - Saturdays 6-hour course Location - Fire Station #2 Linda Way Forest Park Instructor - Eddie Buckholts Dates: January 19, 2008 Minimum Class: 10 Maximum/20 students Pre-registration is required. This class include classroom study of defensive driving techniques. Get certified and save on most insurance cost. Great class for new drivers. Call 404-363-2908 for more information. CREATIVE ARTS and CRAFTS CLASSES Classes will combine music with different concepts of art for all ages. The instructor will provide the necessary tools for class, unless otherwise noted. The classes will work with fabrics, woodcrafts, paper, clay, and paints. The classes will run for four (4) weeks and meet at Community Building #1 as follows: Teens Thursday, October 6 5pm-6pm Fee: $20 Kids Friday, October 7 4pm-5pm - Fee: $20 Classes start over the first Thursday and Friday of the month. Instructor: Sonja Bateman MARTIAL ARTS TAI-CHI Tai-Chi is a meditative martial art practice by people of all ages. It help to relieve the stress of the day and awaken the body s natural healing power. Classes meet on Tuesday 8:15pm-9pm. Cost: $40/$50 monthly. Class meet at Community Building #4. MARTIAL ARTS SHAOLIN KUNG FU Shaolin Kung Fu is one of the oldest forms of exercise and self defense. It helps to develop discipline, self esteem and coordination. It is a fun and exciting way to develop a healthier body and mind. Classes meet on Tuesday ages 3-7 @ 6pm; ages 8-13 @ 6:45pm; ages 14 and up @ 7:30pm. Cost: $40/$50 monthly. Class meet at Community Building #4. Class starts October 2, 2007. Instructor Raymond Williams BALLET, TAP, JAZZ 3-5 yr olds meet Saturday 9am-10am in the Multi Class Room at Recreation Center. Fee: $40 monthly. Ages 6 and up meets 12noon- 1:45pm on Saturday. Fee: $40 monthly. Adult and boys tap is available. Instructors: Kyon Parker and Maynica Jackson have over 20 years of dancing experience combined. They have won numerous awards in ballet, tap, hip-hop and jazz. HUNTERS EDUCATION Class Date September 27, 2007 Time 6pm-9:30pm Cost Free You must register and complete a test on-line before attending this class. The test results must be brought to class. This class will be held in the dining room of the Recreation Building. Register on line at www.gohuntgeorgia.com. Click on the quail and follow instructions. SPRING BREAK DAY CAMP Registration - Begins October until full Cost - $50 Camp Dates - April 7-11, 2008 Time - 9am-5pm Age Group - 6-10 yrs. old Location - Recreation Building A week of special activities including arts and crafts, athletics, organized games and more. LIFEGUARD TRAINING Age Group - 15 & over Screening - February 13, 2008 ~ Time - 7pm-10pm Cost - $90 ($35/training, $25/pool, $30/first-aid) Class Dates - February 20, 27, March 5, 12, 19 5pm-9:30pm; Saturday, March 15, 12noon-6pm Requirement - Ability to swim 500 yards Combination of strokes Including Breast, crawl, back, side and Elementary back; tread water up to two (2) minutes and secure ten (10) pound object from bottom of Pool. Instructor - Emory Fears Location - Indoor Pool Rec. Bldg. Attendance in all classes required. You must pre-register. CARDIO KIDS FUNK This fun exercise program will introduce your child ages 4-11 years to physical fitness activities with a fun and interactive approach. Children will participate in activities such as kickball, fun aerobics, relay races and so much more. Your child s weight will be monitored and recorded so you may see the progress. Your child will be taught the importance of healthy eating habits, and through this program, how to become a team player. Class starts September 2007. Cost: $40 per month. Time: Fridays 6:30pm-8pm; Saturdays 10am- 11:30am. Instructors: Asya & Ayesha Sabir FATHER AND SON OUTING This program is designed for father and son to have an educational outing while spending quality time together. There will also be space for boys 10-17 years old that need a father figure in their lives for a few hours. Space is limited. Date: March 22, April 19, May 10, June 21, 2008. $15 per person. Morris, Sr. FOREST PARK FLIGHT Community Track Club ~ Registration: September 5-October 3, 2007 ~ Cost: $30 ~ Ages: 6 yrs & older This program is for children and adults who want to learn the fundamentals of the track and field running events including proper warm-up, proper technique, training regimen and race strategy. People of ALL ages and ability are encouraged to join in on the fun. Everyone will have the opportunity to compete in ALL-Comers track meets in the Metro Atlanta area. The fee includes your Forest Park Flight uniform singlet. Any competition entry fees are not included in the program fee. Practices are Tuesday, October 9, 2007 through November 30, 2007. Practices will be Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:30pm. Competition dates and time TBD. 20
