Pleasant, MI on Friday, Jan. 13 to face MAC West Division foe Central Michigan (10-6, 0-3 MAC). Tip-off time from McGuirk Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. with the game being televised on the CBS Sports Network. The Rockets dropped a 90-74 decision at Western Michigan on Tuesday after opening their MAC season with home victories over East Division foes Buffalo (88-56) and Miami (91-76). UT tied its season low with nine turnovers against the Broncos but that couldn t offset WMU s red-hot 70.0 percent shooting mark. Senior guard Jonathan Williams led four Rockets in double figures vs. Western Michigan with 19 points but saw his career-high eight-game streak of scoring 20 or more points end. Williams ranks second in the MAC with 20.5 ppg and possesses a 46.6 FG%, a 39.3 3PFTG% and a team-high 80.5 FT%. Senior forward Steve Taylor, Jr. ranks second on the team in scoring with 15.0 ppg to go along with a MAC-best 11.7 rpg and a team-high 3.7 apg. He ranks fifth nationally with 11.7 rpg (through Jan. 11) and is second in the country with 9.5 defensive rpg. In addition, Taylor s 12 double-doubles are tied for fourth in the nation. Sophomore guard Jaelan Sanford is also a double-digit scorer for the Rockets with 13.6 ppg and is playing a team-high 34.6 mpg. In three MAC contests, Sanford is averaging 16.0 ppg and a team-high 4.7 apg. As a team, Toledo ranks second in the MAC with a 48.1 field-goal percentage. The Rockets have tied a school record (set in the 1971-72 campaign) with a nationhigh five overtime games this season. UT has a 2-3 win-loss mark in its OT contests with wins over Youngstown State (Nov. 15) and Evansville (Nov. 25) and losses against Middle Tennessee (Nov. 26), Green Bay (Dec. 3) and Marshall (Dec. 10). Toledo s five overtime games are tied for the national lead with Indiana State and are one more than Cal. State-Fullerton, Colgate, Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Washington. The Chippewas sit at the top of the MAC in scoring offense (88.6), free-throw percentage (.769), three-point field goals per game (12.3) and fewest turnovers per game (10.5). CMU is still looking for its first conference victory after opening league play with losses at EMU and NIU and an 89-85 home setback to Akron earlier this week. Junior guard Marcus Keene leads the nation with 29.3 ppg with backcourt mate, senior guard Braylon Rayson, topping the MAC in league scoring with 23.7 ppg. Keene also ranks second in the MAC with a team-high 5.4 apg.

Jordan Lauf joined Boothe as the Rockets top offensive rebounder with 1.9 offensive rpg to rank tied for 13th in the conference. SHARPSHOOTERS The Rockets rank second in the MAC this season with a 48.1 field-goal percentage (behind Akron s 48.3 mark). BENCH ADDITION A familiar face to Mid-American Conference fans joined the Rockets coaching staff last spring when Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk announced the hiring of former MAC Player of the Year DeAndre Haynes to his staff. Haynes comes to Toledo after spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach for the Golden Flashes. Haynes is KSU s all-time leader in assists (625) and steals (229) and became the first Golden Flash to earn the MAC s top player honor in 2006. An Honorable Mention All-American that year as well, Haynes led Kent State to the MAC regular season and tournament titles and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

PAIR OF TRANSFERS TO DON MIDNIGHT BLUE AND GOLD NEXT YEAR Tre Shaun Fletcher (Wilmar, AR) and Willie Jackson (Cleveland, OH) are each expected to become key contributors for the Rockets in the 2017-18 campaign. Fletcher transferred to Toledo from Colorado last spring, while Jackson attended Missouri last fall before becoming a member of UT s program in early January. Fletcher will be eligible to play for UT at the start of the 2017-18 season, while Jackson can play his first game as a Rocket following the 2017 fall semester. Fletcher averaged a career-high 7.1 ppg and grabbed 2.4 rpg in his final campaign at Colorado and started 14 of 34 games played. Hill helped lead Massillon Jackson to a 19-5 record, a share of the Federal League title and a district championship game appearance during his junior season playing alongside first-team all-state honoree Kyle Young. He averaged 13.6 points per game last year and was an honorable-mention Division I All-Ohio and second-team all-district selection. Jackson earned honorable-mention all-district honors as a junior at Cleveland Garfield Heights after averaging 14.0 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. He helped the Bulldogs to a 23-5 overall record last year and an appearance in the state semifinals. Rose averaged 14.0 points and 2.0 steals per game as a junior for Crete-Monee High School and helped the Warriors to a 14-6 record in 2015-16. Of the 129 teams to make the list, only 24 were NCAA Division I-affiliated programs. PLEASANT, MI Toledo s rally from a 16-point halftime deficit at Central Michigan came up short in a 77-69 setback to the Chippewas at McGuirk Arena. The decision snapped the Rockets seasonhigh four-game winning streak and also ended CMU s season-high three-game losing skid. Nathan Boothe topped UT with 23 points and 10 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season. Joining the Rockets big man in double figures was Jonathan Williams and Zach Garber with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Braylon Rayson topped the Chippewas (with 26 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Chris Fowler contributed 16 points, eight boards and a team-best five assists. Toledo could never get untracked with its long-distance shots as it finished with a season-low 12.9 three-point field-goal percentage. The Chippewas knocked down 44.4 percent (12-of-27) of their three-point shots, thanks to Rayson s 7-of-11 showing behind the arc. The Chippewas outscored the Rockets by a 25-6 margin in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 45-29 halftime lead. The Rockets rallied to within 58-50 on Jaelan Sanford s three-pointer with 10:19 to play. UT kept pushing and crept within three points, 65-62, with 5:17 to play after Boothe slammed one home and hit two free throws on back-to-back possessions. The Rockets then forced a turnover and had a chance to tie but Nate Navigato s trey wouldn t fall. Nathan Boothe tallied a teamhigh 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes for the Rockets. Stuckey Mosley and Jonathan Williams joined Boothe in double figures with 17 and 15 points, respectively. Chris Fowler and John Simons tallied 20 and 19 points, respectively, to lead the Chippewas. Simons also grabbed nine boards in 38 minutes of action. Toledo was efficient throughout the contest, committing a season-low five turnovers with zero miscues in the second half. The Rockets shot 41.5 percent from the field, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the charity stripe. Central Michigan posted a 47.2 shooting mark and was also 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) behind the arc. CMU converted 17-of-20 free throws and held a slim 34-33 advantage on the boards. Neither squad led by more than four points in the opening stanza with a Fowler layup four seconds before halftime putting the visitors in front by a 34-32 margin. Boothe and Navigato drilled back-to-back three-point bombs to give the Rockets their last lead of the night, 57-56, with 9:07 to play. Boothe s trey with 54.3 seconds to play cut CMU s lead to 73-72, but that was as close as the Rockets could get.
