THE WAIT IS OVER THE FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 IS HERE!! The 2018 World Cup might be missing some big name nations like Italy, Chile and the Netherlands, but that's what makes m this tournament the best in sports and with such an explosive start already, we are quickly learning anything is possible when it comes to the beautiful game Brazil are looking to bounce back from a travesty in 2014, while Spain, Argentina and France are hoping to dethrone defending champions Germany and their typically deepp squad. Can Belgium or Portugal make a splash? Do England have what it takes to challengee too? With about half of the world s population glued to theirr TV screens, thee World Cup is by far the greatest sporting event of all time. Four years of waiting seems like a lifetime, but the wait is now over as we enter the spectacular wonder of o the World Cup! Here are some intriguing facts you most probably didn t know about the World Cup. SOME FACTS YOU PROBABLY DIDN T KNOW 21 ST WORLD CUP Russia 2018 is the 21st World Cup in FIFA history. It will also be the first time that Russia hosts the soccer event. NEWCOMERS Panama and Iceland are taking part in the World Cup for the first time ever! In 2010, Slovakia was the last team to make their debut and qualify to the next round. ROUND OF 16 Every host country s soccer team has made it to the Last 16 but withh one exception. South Africa is the only country to have hosted a World Cup (2010) and not made it past the group stage. BRAZILIANT Brazil is the onlyy country in the world to have taken part in every single Worldd Cup since the first tournament in 1930. They are also the side with the most wins in the competition 5! MEXICAN T Mexico s team holds the record for attending the World Cup the most times without ever taking the trophy home. At leastt they keep coming back without letting up. SEEING RED When it comes to getting red cards, Brazil leads the pack with the most (11) throughout the World Cup years. Not far behind is Argentina (10) and then Uruguay (9). Are South Americans hot blooded, perhaps? GOALS FOR GLORY Have you ever wondered how manyy goals are scored at the World Cup? Well the most were scored in 1998 and 2014 171. The least however was a low of 145 in 2010. MAKING SWISS CHEESE The most goals to ever be scored in a World W Cup match is 12. This happened when Austria beat Switzerland 7 5 all the way back in 1954 in Sweden. NATIONAL PRIDE Every single time a country has won the World Cup, the team s coach has had the same nationality. Should this be a requirement now for ever side? THINKING INSIDE THE BOX Denmark proudly boast having scored 27 goals during their appearances at the World Cup. YOUNG GUN The youngest player to have ever graced the pitch at a World Cup was Norman Whiteside playing for Northern Irelandd in 1982. He was just 17 years, 1 month and 10 days old. During the World Cup, the newly renovated Luzhniki Stadium will be able a to accommodate 80,000 spectators. Before reconstruction, which lasted for four years, the tournament s flagship venue could hold 78,000 people, while during the 1950s and 1960s, when it was called the Lenin Central Stadium, up to 100,000 supporters would attend the Soviet Union s matches. The Luzhniki is located in one of the most picturesque areas of the Russian capital, as part of a wider Olympic complex bearing the same name that spreads over 180 hectares. The Moskva River flows right alongside the stadium and there is a cable car connecting the two. Tens of thousands of Muscovites play all kinds of sports at the Luzhniki Olympic Complex and today it is a popular place for recreation and family strolls. 2018 Outdoor Program Key Dates 2018 Toyota National Championships Host Cities Announced Laval, QC (U15 Cup) & Surrey, BC (U17 Cup) After an extensive bid evaluation process, six cities were selected to host the 2018 and 2019 Toyota CSA Club National Championships. In 2018, Canada Soccer s three selected locations are: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Challenge/Jubilee) Surrey, British Columbia (U 17 Cup) Laval, Québec (U 15 Cup) In 2019, Canada Soccer s three locations will be: St. John s, Newfoundland Labrador (Challenge/Jubilee); Charlottetown, Prince Edwardd Island (U 17 Cup); and Edmonton, Alberta (U 15 Cup). Canadaa Soccer s Toyota National Championships have served ass our nation s premier amateur competition for more than 100 years, with the men s competition inaugurated in 1913 and the women s competition inaugurated in 1982. At all age levels, the Toyota National Championships provide a meaningful soccer experience for host cities and participating teams, as well as the players, coaches, support staff, officials, and volunteers. These competitions are complimented by both the Futsal Canadian Championship (since 2015) and the Canadian Championship featuring Canada s professional clubs (since 2008). THE BIGGEST AND MOST POPULAR SPORTING EVENT ON THE PLANET IS COMING TO CANADA!! OH CANADA!!! In a historic vote held in Moscow on Wednesday, the United Bid of Canada, Mexico and the United States beatt out Morocco to win the right to co host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the first time that international soccer s marquee event will touch down on Canadian soil. The United Bid won the vote 134 65 over Moroccoo during a special congressional meeting where every single member nation of FIFA, excluding the four potential host countries, cast a ballot. Hosting a FIFA World Cup is an extraordinary honor and privilege, Steven Reed, President of Canada Soccer, said in a statement. Canada, Mexico, and the United States are ready to welcomee the world too North America and serve as stewards of the largest FIFA World Cup in history. Our vision is of a world of opportunity for our Candidate host cities and for the global football community. Mexico previously hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1986. The United States staged the tournament in 1994. Canada has never heldd the competition, but it did host the 2015 Women s World Cup. Canada s only appearance at the Men s World Cup came in 1986 when itt loss all three of its games and crashed out in the first round. Wednesday s vote offers hope thatt this could lead to an entirely new generation of Canadian youngsterss taking up soccer, which could have long term benefits for the men s team. The possibility of hosting the World W Cup in Canada would be an absolute game changing event for the sport in this country, Jason devos told Sportsnet this week. Wednesday s vote is also good news for the new Canadian Premier League that will launch next year. This a milestone moment for soccer in this country. Having the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada will transform thee way that Canadians perceive the globall game and change the way the world sees Canada, CPL commissioner David Clanachan said in a statement. We look forward to having the 2026 FIFA World W Cup played in Canadiann stadiums, and we are even more excited at the possibility of having CPL athletes playing on the world s biggest stage on home soil. Historically, the host nation has always automatically qualified for the World Cup it hasn tt been forced to play games in order to qualify for the tournament. However, FIFA previously ruled that should the Unitedd bid beat out Morocco, the number of host countries to automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup would be decided by another vote by the FIFA council sometime in the future. The 2026 World Cup will expand to 48 teams from 32, and will feature a new format of 16 round robin groups of three teams with thee top two from each pool advancing to a 32 nation knockout round. The tournamentt will still take place over 32 days. The United Bid calls for the U.S. to host 60 matches, including all games from the quarter finals through to the final. Canada and Mexico would each host 10 games (potential Canadian citied include Edmonton, Montreal, and Toronto). In total, 23 cities are part of the United Bid, and 16 cities will be selected by FIFA to host games. Page 4

NCCP Fundamentals (U6/U8) This 7 hour course is designed to provide the coach with the tools to manage and teach this age group effectively with an emphasis on physical literacy and fun. NCCP Learning To Train (L2T U10/U12) This two day, 144 hour course will emphasis technique and skill development, basic tactics, session planning and goalkeeping. NCCP Soccer For Life (S4L U14+) This two day, 14 hour course will emphasis technique and skill development, principless of play, systems of play, session planning and goalkeeping. COMPETITIVE COACH STREAM ASA Provincial C License Completion of a 21 hour training course and an official evaluation (Training to Train Stage of Development). ASA Provincial B License Completion of the training course totaling 30 hours and an official evaluation process (Training to Train Stage of Development) ). CSA National B License Completion of the training course totaling 40 hours and an official evaluation process (Training to Compete Stage of Development). CSA National A License Completion of the training course totaling 90 hours and an official evaluation process (Training to Compete Stage of Development).
