Battle cry competition of classes shows the spirit with loud cheering echoing from students, teachers and parents all getting in the action! Great job cheerleaders! We are so proud of our cardinal football team and volleyball teams! They are working hard, executing great plays making the games exciting! The cheerleaders and pep squad keep us entertained with cheers and cute dances! Way to go Cardinals! WhooHoo!! The NEW BUS has arrived!! We are ecstatic and so grateful to everyone helping support this project!! Thank you advisory council members Drew Brossman and Ronnie Lewis for doing the search and making the contacts. There will be a bus drivers orientation meeting with a company representative next Tuesday, October 2 at 5 p.m. to go over all details of the bus. This updated new bus will provide safe transportation for students, parents and staff to and from field trips and local businesses. We will continue to report progress of the fund balance in the newsletter. October is the month of the Holy Rosary; come pray the rosary with us after school masses at our Rosary Mary Garden. Only 2 ½ weeks left to the first nine weeks and please continue to encourage your students to work hard completing all assignments neatly, turning them in to the teachers and study well for tests. Next week Thursday is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi with the Blessing of the Animals prayer service led by the eighth graders at 3:00 behind the cafeteria. Students may leave right after with their parents but must sign out with their homeroom teacher. Today, September 28 if the feast day of St. Wenceslaus. Known in song and folklore as the good king, St. Wenceslaus (king and martyr) is the patron saint of the Czech Republic. He was born very early in the tenth century near the city of Prague, the son of the Duke of Bohemia. Wenceslaus was raised by his grandmother, St. Ludmilla who tried to promote him as the ruler of Bohemia instead of his mother Drahomira, who supported anti-christian groups in the kingdom. In 921 Ludmilla was murdered, but the Christian forces were nonetheless successful in the political intrigues which followed, making it possible for Wenceslaus to ascend to the throne. The young king tried to unify Bohemia, support the Church, and negotiate peace with Germany; unfortunately, his efforts met bitter opposition. Wenceslaus own brother Boleslav was involved in the intrigues against him. Boleslav invited his brother to attend Mass with him, while secretly plotting an ambush. On the way to church Wenceslaus was killed by his brother s supporters. Though both St. Ludmilla and St. Wenceslaus were killed as a result of political intrigues, and not religious persecution, they were nonetheless acclaimed as martyrs. St. Wenceslaus is a national hero in Bohemia. Virtually from the moment of his death, Wenceslaus was considered a martyr and venerated as a saint. Even at the moment his brother tried to murder him, Wenceslaus responded with loving concern for him and his salvation. Is there a loved one from whom I am estranged or with whom there has been a rift? How is God asking me to be a peacemaker and healer of the breach? St. Wenceslaus, pray for me. Miracles were reported at his tomb, and his remains were translated to the church of St. Vitus in Prague which became a major pilgrimage site. Have a great weekend! Take Care and God Bless! The A-team finished the evening with a 25-4 and 25-10 victory. Landry Zapalac had 12 aces, one kill, one assist and 4 digs. Mackenzie Kunschick had 5 aces, one kill and 4 assist.
