Big SIR - Ed Puchi (916) 988-1331 Sorry I missed our lunch meeting in October. However, while away, Ed Nishio and I tried to start a new SIR Branch on the Big Island of Hawaii. We were successful in starting the golf committee, (of 2) but didn't have time to get the rest of the organization put together. I truly appreciate the benefit I have gained by being a member of SIR and particularly Branch 49. I have made new friends, lasting friends, and that gave me an opportunity to get together with Ed for some great golf, while we were both on vacation in the same place and my wife and I truly benefitted from the information we learned from Ed and Fran about the things to do on the Big Island. This is just one experience that I would have never had without the benefit of making a new friend through SIR. There were some significant changes made to the SIR State Rules and our Branch 49 By-Laws. The State Board revised the membership requirements regarding employment status. It is no longer required for a member to be retired or semi-retired. SIR membership is open to all men who are willing to participate in SIR activities. The State Board also made a rule change that will allow SIR members to participate in activities in multiple branches at the same time. The only requirement will be for the member to join each branch with which they wish to participate and pay dues to that branch as well as their current branch. The State Board has also given each Branch the discretion to adopt its own requirements regarding members participation and attendance at the monthly luncheon meetings and activities. Accordingly, your Branch 49 BEC adopted a By -Law requiring all members to pay dues of $6.00 per year, which equals the State Board assessment to Branch 49 and all new members must pay the dues with their application and all transferring members will also be required to pay the dues to our Branch with their application. Dues must be paid by April of each year. These changes are all in keeping with the effort to maintain our membership numbers and to encourage new membership. We will be inducting the Branch 49 officers for 2019 at our meeting this month. I have truly enjoyed serving as Big Sir for 2018 and I hope that you will all support our Big Sir and Little Sir for2019, Jerry Helmey and Al Edwards, respectively, in continuing to make Branch 49 an active and thriving Branch for all our members. Don't forget our Christmas Luncheon where we particularly celebrate with the ladies. It is a special occasion for all and we have a very dedicated and hard working group putting together what should be a very memorable even, lots of very nice raffle prizes and good company. Our November meeting will be your last chance to get your tickets. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. We all have much to be thankful for. See you all on November 29th. Ed Puchi - Big SIR LITTLE SIR - Jerry Helmey (916) 941-0707 Thanksgiving is almost here, and winter is just around the corner. That means our Holliday Party is coming on December l3th. I hope you plan to attend, great fun, great food, and Holiday Cheer. A great way to start off the Holiday season. As a bonus, we have a number of great raffle prizes. Jack Dube sent an email listing the prizes thank you Jack. Below is an updated list, as follows. Branch 49 Golf Club Chairman: Don Fuller, 916-791-4581 Asst. Chairman/Prize Dir: Ron Schultze, 916-984-4159 Tournament Directors: Ed Nishio & Tim Hammon Treasurer: Jack DuBe, 916-989-9131 Secretary/Special Projects: Tom Coultas Rules Chairman: Bill Bertsch Member at Large: Verne Buer Advisor: Tom Baker The 2018 golf season is now over. It was a great year. We played 36 tournaments. We introduced the club to our new tournament software, Golf Genius. While we did hit several bumps in the road along the way, it turns out that Golf Genius is a great program and will allow us to do new and creative things. Steve Alfonso won Player of the Year. Steve had an excellent year and showed that you do not have to hit your drives 300 yards. You do not even have to win every tournament. But, if you actually go out and practice your short game, you can score better and become very consistent. Steve did not win a lot of tournaments, but he was always in the top 5 and earned points every week. That enabled him to win Player of the Year by a landslide. Steve is the first member to win Player of the Year for a second time. The winter season is now here. The weather is still good and we are playing some good golf. We played at Empire Ranch this week. In the Best Ball: Don Fuller and Jerry Nakamura won the A flight and Steve Alfonso and Charley Novello won the B flight with a net 58. Nice round. Chuck Bradshaw shot a 45 37 for a Gross 82 for low gross of the day. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our Board members for their hard work this year. It has been a challenging year. In particular, I want to thank Frank Haener who did a fabulous job as the tournament coordinator and getting us up and running on Golf Genius. I also want to thank Jack Dube. He does all of the behind scenes work that needs to be done. He has been the treasurer for many years. He negotiated all of our contracts for next year. He maintains virtually all of our records. And he is the voice of reason for the Board. Don Fuller Don t forget! Our awards lunch and prize distribution is this coming Thursday, the 15th, at 11:30 AM at Cattleman s Restaurant on Folsom Bl, behind the Nimbus winery building. Also, don t forget that Charley and I will be selling raffle tickets for several $100 raffle drawings again. Charley will have the massbassticketmaster dispenser, and the tickets are $1 each, 8 for $5. Once again, everybody is a winner. Each attendee will receive an envelope, which will contain one of the following amounts of money: $100, $75, $60, $50, $35, $25. We have told the restaurant how many people will attend, so sorry, if you haven t already committed, it s too late.
