Eligible Participants: Iowa 4 H Shooting Sports State Match /National Qualifier Sunday, August 26, 2018 Brownell s Big Springs Range, Searsboro, Iowa Check in at 8:00 a.m. until end Awards Program to follow Counties that have state recognized 4 H Safety and Education in Shooting Sports (SESS) programs can send young people (leaders must have 4 H Shooting Sports training at a state or national 4 H Shooting Sports workshop). Youth must be 4 H club members in good standing and have a minimum of 10 hours of supervised instruction by a 4 H Certified Shooting Sports Leader that includes both classroom and range events. Youth must be 4 th grade in spring 2017 18 or older to compete in riflery or archery and 12 years of age or older on August 26th to compete in shotgun and muzzleloader. All shotgun shooters must have shot a minimum of 50 targets on a regulation trap range. Required: Contestants are responsible for providing their own ammunition and equipment, including safety glasses and ear protection. Air rifles must have a clear barrel indicator (CBI). Smallbore rifles must have an empty chamber indicator (ECI). Shooters should have range mats and kneeling rolls for riflery. Contestants in shotgun must have shell pouches or vests. Archers should have hip quivers. Coaches are responsible for handling and delivering all ammunition to and from the event. The required ammunition target loads are described on the website under rules. The coach from each team is required to deliver all ammunition to the range officer or check in location. Targets, score cards, and other range equipment will be provided. Youth must be accompanied by their 4 H SESS volunteer leader. Age categories: Senior participants (9 th, 10 th, 11 th, or 12 th graders in spring of 2017 2018 school year) Intermediates (7 th and 8 th graders in the spring of 2017 2018 school year) Juniors (4 th, 5 th, or 6 th graders in the spring of 2017 2018 school year) Discipline Events: Rules for shooting disciplines are currently being reviewed. When revised, they will be posted on the 4 H SESS website (http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/shootingsports/sessevents.htm) in the box on the right under State Youth Match Rules. Registration Information Participants may shoot in 2 disciplines depending on final registration numbers. The entry cost is $25 per person for juniors, intermediates and seniors not participating in the shotgun discipline. Shotgun participants will need to pay an additional $5 to cover the cost of targets. This entry fee does not include lunch. Food Stand is provided by Poweshiek County Extension. All proceeds go to 4 H Nature Club. Air Rifle will be held at PCSA (Poweshiek County Sportsmen s Association). Participants must submit their completed Registration Form online, have the Medical Information/Release Form current in 4 H online, Brownell s Big Springs Range Waiver, and work with their county extension office on payment. NOTE: All information needs to be current in 4 H online as we will print the Medical Information/Release Form to have on file at the event. Iowa 4 H Shooting Sports National Qualifier In order to qualify to participation in the 2019 SESS National Championship participants must be at least 14 years old but not more than 19 years old on January 1, 2019. Participants are only able to attend a National Invitational one time for that given discipline and can only attend one discipline a year. If a participant qualifies in more than one discipline they must choose the discipline to participate in at the National Invitational. Iowa will invite the top 4 individuals in each discipline to attend the 4 H Shooting Sports Invitational event that will be held in Grand Island, Nebraska, June 23 28, 2019. If a youth chooses not to participate in National Championship the invitation will move to 5 th, 6 th places. Iowa 4 H will cover registration fee for the team. Families are responsible for travel and lodging expenses. *Please note: Mathew Genesis event will not be considered for National Invitational. If you are 14 years old by January 1st, 2019 and want to be considered for the National Invitational you must register as Compound. 4 H Shoot Location : Big Springs Range near Montezuma, IA From Montezuma: take County Road F57 west approximately 7 miles; turn right on Highway 146, continue west for about 1 mile. The entrance to Brownell s Big Springs Range is currently identified by a white house and red machine shed on the north side of the road. (A map of the area is included in this packet.) From I 80: exit 182, south on Highway 146 for 9 miles, east on Highway 146 for about one mile. The range is on the north side of the road. From Oskaloosa: take US Highway 63 north to New Sharon. At New Sharon, take state highway 146 north for about 8 miles and west on Highway 146 for about 1 mile. The range is on the north side of the road. Indoor Air Rifle: At PCSA Drive 4 mi. west of Montezuma on Diamond Trail Road to county road 100th St. (opposite entrance to Lake Ponderosa marina tall cell tower at corner). BIG SPRINGS SHOOTING RANGE From I 80 E or W: Take Grinnell Exit, Exit 182. Turn South on Hwy 146. Bear left to stay on Hwy 146 at junction with County road F62, approximately 8.7 miles from I 80. Stay on Hwy 146 for 1.2 miles. Range will be on your left. Note: Using Google Maps and searching for the address 5015 Highway 146, Searsboro, IA 50242, will get you a pointer right by the range gate. It s not the correct range address, but using the correct address, of course, doesn t work on Google Maps or in most vehicle GPS systems.
