New Member Receptions Training - Lifeguarding Interested in a rewarding job or challenging career as a professional lifeguard? Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you'll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. Must be able to Swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for at least 2 minutes, and retrieve a 10 pound brick from a depth of at least 8 feet deep. Training - Safe Sitter Babysitting This course will teach potential babysitters how to care for a choking infant or child, basic first aid, personal safety for the babysitter, injury prevention, how to care for children (feeding, diapering, etc.), preventing problem behavior, behavior management, ethics and babysitting as a business. Adult Basketball 7, 8, or 9pm games Football Youth Football Program that focuses on the basics of strength training, coordination, balance, running mechanics, and conditioning as it pertains to football athletes. Led by staff with coaching experience as well as collegiate players. Coach Pitch Baseball Instructional baseball program for boys and girls entering pre K or kindergarten. Program will include both practice and games play. Youth Basketball At the Y, kids develop all of their skills from catching and dribbling to teamwork and sportsmanship. Youth basketball is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. Parents and volunteers coach each team by teaching the fundamentals of basketball in order to build self-confidence on and off the court. Everyone gets an opportunity to play, learn, and start new friendships. Youth Lacrosse Lacrosse camp and league, led by experienced lacrosse staff, which provides both practice and games play. Program is held at Van Hoozen Park Youth Tennis Program instructed by Wildwood Racquet Club Professional Staff. Parents are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately hold their child in the water and how to prepare their child to participate fully and try different skills. Children are introduced to basic skills such as, get the face wet, safe entries and exits, floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg actions. This class lays a foundation to learn to swim.
Swim Lessons Age 0-3 Parent/Child-Lv 3 (Pike) This is a transition class from parent/child to independent group lessons. The goal for this class is to build confidence, learn water safety practices, get the face wet, and introduce basic skills that they will learn in preschool group lessons. This class is designed to increase comfort levels in an aquatic environment until the child is ready for group lessons. Swim Lessons Age 3-5 Preschool-Lv 1 (Eel) This class teaches elementary aquatic skills, which children continue to build on as they progress through the preschool levels. Skills presented are performed with support or assistance for blowing bubbles/ submerging, front & back glide, front & back float, treading, and swimming on front and back. Swim Lessons Age 3-5 Preschool-Lv 2 (Ray) Instructor determines level. The goal for this class is to build confidence and encourage children to try skills on their own with minimal support. Skills taught at this level include: submerging, bobbing, front & back float, front & back glide, jumping in and returning to the wall, treading, and swimming 5 yards of combined arm & leg actions on front and back. Swim Lessons Age 3-5 Preschool-Lv 3 (Starfish) Skills at this level are performed independently. We teach children to improve coordination and combined arm and leg actions. Skills taught are: submerging, bobbing, front & back float, front & back glide, treading, and swimming 10 yards of combined arm & leg action on front and on back. Swim Lessons Age 6-12 LTS-Lv 1 (Polliwog) This class teaches the most elementary aquatic skills. Children develop positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water. Children continue to develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on their front and back that lay the foundation for future strokes. Skills taught include: submerging, bobbing, front & back float, front & back glide, 30 seconds treading, whip kick, 2 minutes resting stroke, and swimming 10 yards each of front crawl and back crawl with overarm recovery. Swim Lessons Age 6-12 LTS-Lv 3 (Minnow)
This class builds on the skills of learn-to swim level 2. We teach children to improve coordination, stroke technique, and endurance. Skills taught include: streamline, surface dives, dolphin kick, open turns, 1 minute tread water, 25 yards front crawl with rotary breathing, 25 yards back crawl, 25 yards elementary back crawl, and 15 yards rudimentary breast stroke. Swim Lessons Age 6-12 LTS-Lv 4 & 5 (Fish/Flying Fish) Fish - This class is geared toward swimmers who want to increase endurance and refine their stroke technique. Instructors will focus on stroke refinement drills, proper turns, and advanced strokes. Skills taught include: surface dives, sculling, flip turns, 50 yards of front crawl with rotary breathing, 50 yards of back crawl, and 50 yards of backstroke, 25 yards each of breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke, 100 yards individual medley. Flying Fish - Swimmers in this advanced level focus on stroke enhancement including breathing, body position and arm and leg movements, as well as build endurance in all strokes. The butterfly stroke is also introduced at this level. Flying Fish Swimmers review first aid and safety, and discuss personal ground rules and risk taking. Pre-requisites: pass Fish or ability to perform these skills: Front and back crawl (50 yards), breaststroke, sidestroke, and Dolphin kick (25 yards), and tread water for 3 minutes continuously. High School Sports High School Summer Basketball program. This program will be a five week regular season & single elimination playoffs. Register as a team or as an individual. Weekday afternoons; A- League for upper classmen & more skilled players?b- League for lower classmen and less skilled players Parents Night Out Let the YMCA entertain your child while you enjoy a night out! Activities include a pizza dinner, gym games, swimming, and a movie & popcorn. Please send a duffle bag for each child with the following: towel, plastic bag for wet item, underwear, blanket, & pillow for movie time. Children should arrive with their swimmsuit on under their clothes and should wear gym shoes with socks.
