history BRENTWOOD TOWN LADIES FC www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk The Society of Old Brentwoods Ashwells Road BRENTWOOD CM15 9SE affiliated to the Essex County Football Association members of the Eastern Region Women s Football League secretary Ian Bent (0787 575 251) (ian.bent@essexfa.com) chairman David Worsfold (01277 221 445) (david.worsfold@zen.co.uk) treasurer John Lovell (07785 571 22) (johnhlovell@o2.co.uk) press & publicity Robert Craven (07545 46 872) (robertcraven17@hotmail.com) first team manager Ian Bent assistant managers Lucy Faraday & David Worsfold club captain Carla Rose honours ERWFL Division One South Runners-Up 2009/10 ERWFL Plate Competition Winners 2007/8 2 www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk Brentwood Town Ladies FC was formed in 1999 following the merger of Brentwood Ursuline FC and Brentwood Girls FC. The Ursuline Convent High School had been running teams in the town since 1991 and by 1998/9 had entered three teams into the Essex County Girls League whilst Brentwood Boys had also launched a girls team in 1997. By the spring of 1999, Brentwood Ursuline had decided that the school could no longer support football's rapid growth and the decision was taken to form an independent club which also took on board the girls' team from Brentwood Boys for the best interests of female football in the area. The focus has now moved to a successful Ladies side, who compete in the Eastern Region Women's Football League (ERWFL) having claimed successive promotions from the Essex County Women's League in 200 and 2004. Having finished fifth in their first season, 2005/6 saw Brentwood reach the play-off finals as they pushed for promotion from Division One East. Town could not quite reach the top tier, and subsequent seasons saw the club narrowly miss out again having been placed fourth in 2007 and then third in consecutive campaigns within the newly-realigned Division One South. There was some success in 2008 as the Ladies won their first major trophy, scooping the ERWFL Plate Competition courtesy of a 4-1 victory over Kings Sports, as well as consecutive runs to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Women s Cup. After the departure of coach Kevin Anderson at the end of the 2008/9 campaign, 2009/10 dawned with a new management team in place, headed by Ian Bent. Ably assisted by David Worsfold and Lucy Faraday in his backroom team, Bent tasted success at the end of his first term in charge as Blues finally claimed that elusive promotion spot, completing the campaign as runners-up to Arlesey Town. 2010/11 now sees the Club competing in the ERWFL Premier Division for the first time in their history. btlfc Back row (l-r): Jess Tuffen, Danielle Butler, Emma Hooker, Kelly Walker, Sarah Murphy, Dominique Hume, Izzy Vian, Leah Cowan, Bryony Lynch, Sophie Lovell, Ian Bent (manager) Front row (l-r): Nicole Manning (vice-captain), Nikita Whinnett, Carla Rose (captain), Lucy Faraday (assistant manager), Keeley Walker, Nikki Allen Not shown: Georgia Allen, Toni Brown, Kerri Thomas, Stacey Turner, David Worsfold (assistant manager)

We hope that the visiting players, coaches and supporters enjoy their trip across Essex tonight. May I begin by thanking Hullbridge Sports Fc for the use of their facilities and their hospitality in hosting tonight s fixture. Without them this game could not be played and it s great to see local clubs helping each other out like this, and let s hope it s a lucky ground for us this evening. The team got back to winning ways on Sunday with a hard-fought win over a very physical Haringey Borough side. Without ever reaching second gear or playing anywhere near our best we managed to secure the three points comfortably, and this was very pleasing, although everyone will be looking for an improvement here tonight against a Chelmsford side looking for revenge for the game earlier in the season. Both of tonight s teams enjoy a strong rivalry underpinned by mutual respect for each other. When I took the job at Brentwood I welcome certainly looked at the success and development of Chelmsford City Ladies as a blueprint for the job I wanted to do here, and I personally have nothing bur respect for what Clare and Sharon have achieved over the past few years. Unfortunately I will not be at tonight s game due to family reasons, but I have left the team in the capable hands of my assistant Lucy Faraday and the team couldn t be in better hands. I will be following the game via text (modern technology at its best) and I am looking for us to keep our good League form going as we enter the final stages of the season. For those present this evening, I hope the game is as entertaining as the last meeting between these two sides, with hopefully a similar result at the end, too. Enjoy the match! match report Brentwood Town (Butler 12, Lovell 26, Faraday 69) Haringey Borough 0 Eastern Region Women s Football League Premier Division @ the Society of Old Brentwoods on Sun 0 Apr 2011 Town: Dominique Hume, Emma Hooker, Jess Tuffen, Kelly Walker, Nicole Manning (Georgia Allen), Sophie Lovell, Nikita Whinnett (Toni Brown), Nikki Allen (Carla Rose), Danielle Butler, Lucy Faraday, Leah Cowan. Substitute not used: Sarah Murphy. Brentwood Town Ladies overcame a physical battle with Haringey Borough to claim all three points from Sunday s Eastern Region Women s Football League Premier Division clash. As a result Town have now won three out of their last four League fixtures and sit well-placed in fourth in the table going into tonight s fixture. Both teams started brightly but it was Brentwood who created the better chances from the outset. Danielle Butler proved to be an instant threat down the right-hand side, breaking through Borough s defence and forcing an early save from Andrea Walkes. Further positive football down the Brentwood right saw some excellent link-up play before Nikita Whinnett headed over a Butler cross, but the hosts did not have to wait much longer for the breakthrough. It came on 12 minutes as Butler once again beat the offside trap down the right to latch onto Lucy Faraday s through-ball before advancing on goal and leaving Walkes with no chance by rifling her shot into the top right-hand corner of the net. Blues failed to add to their advantage with 4 www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk Whinnett coming closest to doubling the lead as she fired over from close range. At the other end Lekesha James and Julia Carruthers were keeping Brentwood s defence busy with some strong running on the counter-attack, but the back-line stood up well and denied any definite chances to the visitors. That allowed Town to grab their second goal in the 26th minute as Sophie Lovell smartly steered home another excellent Faraday set-piece to make it five goals in the last five games for the centre-half. The second half continued a scrappy vain as the game failed to settle down, with the number of free-kicks being awarded stopping any flow to proceedings. Town scored the final goal of the game when, in the 69th minute, Faraday once again showed her quality with a dead ball, this time curling a free-kick into the top right-hand corner to render Walkes helpless. Excellent build-up from Faraday released Whinnett, who tried to set up Leah Cowan for a fourth goal before the pair exchanged passes and Whinnett fired over. The final quarter-of-an-hour saw very few chances and Kari-Ann Parker was on hand to stop any further Blues attacks. After the game, manager Ian Bent was pleased to get the three points in difficult circumstances: At this stage of the season it s all about the results and I m happy to see the team pick up the three points today, he said. Overall I wasn't happy with the performance and we gave the ball away far too easily and lacked the work ethic that has been a key component to our game all season. That said, Haringey made it very difficult for the game to flow and we showed today we can battle when we have to, so this is a good three points. sponsorship opportunities How would you like the opportunity to be a part of a progressive female football club? Brentwood Town Ladies FC won promotion to the fourth tier of the women s football in England last season, and have already recorded positive results against the likes of Barking, Chelmsford City and Peterborough during 2010/11. The club continue to receive a lot of exposure in local media outlets including the Brentwood Gazette and Brentwood Weekly News, plus female football websites such as SheKicks.net and WomensSoccerScene.co.uk. The club s own website, www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk, has received over 20,000 hits since the start of the campaign, and matchday programmes are distributed to spectators at all home games. btlfc squad blues news BINGO NIGHT - FRIDAY 15TH APRIL 2011 Brentwood Town Ladies FC will be holding their second fundraising event of the season on Friday 15th April 2011 when the Society of Old Brentwoods hosts a Bingo Night. Having previously raised vital money for the club via Race Nights and Quiz Nights, the club committee have elected to try their hand at an inaugural Bingo Night, which will be held in a little over a fortnight. The event will take place on Friday 15th April at Town s home ground, the Society of Old Brentwoods, getting underway at approximately 7.0pm. With funds having been received through sponsorship and a run to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Women s Cup this season, the event will be the final one of the 2010/11 campaign, and manager and secretary Ian Bent is keen to see lots of different faces at the venue. I would like every player to ensure not only do they attend, but you also bring plenty of people with you to ensure the club raises much-needed funds from other people sunday s fixtures Eastern Region Women s Football League Premier Division Barking vs Peterborough Cambridge University vs Stevenage Borough Haringey Borough vs Arlesey Town Hethersett Athletic vs Brentwood Town Kettering Town vs Chelmsford City rather than simply your own, said Bent. I want to see parents, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends, grandparents, work colleagues and, if necessary, random strangers there to ensure the night is enjoyable for everyone. The more there, then the more fun and the more money we raise. There will be five games on the night (each one consisting of two mini-games (a line then full house) with prizes up for grabs. There will also be a raffle, with money raised by people buying their cards on the night and through the raffle. In 1987, they formed a second team named The Royals which also played in the same competition but, when this folded, the two teams merged to form an eleven-a-side team. The Club entered the Greater London League in 1988 and finished as runners-up in Division Three in their first season. In 1992 there was sufficient interest for the Club to form a junior section, which has provided a number of players for the seniors over the years. The club continued to be successful after winning the inaugural Essex County Women s Cup in 1995 and, after making the switch into the Eastern Region Women s Football League, won the Premier Division championship in 2000 to gain promotion to the South East Women s Combination League via the play-offs. During this time, the Club continued to be successful with the seniors winning the Essex County Cup five times. After two seasons, an exodus of first team players saw the committee make the decision to withdraw from the Combination and start again with the reserve team becoming the first eleven, competing in the Essex County Women s League. 200/04 season saw a new era begin when, under new management, the first team immediately make an impact, becoming League champions in the Essex County Women s League and took the decision to move up into the Eastern Region. They also reached the League Cup Final. 2004/05 saw City win the Lisa Slater Memorial Shield Final, beating AFC Kempston Rovers and consolidated their first season in the Eastern Region League by finishing a creditable mid-table position. Clare Andrews then took over the role as first team manager and she has gelled a side containing a mixture of youth and experience. with the Clarets finishing runners up in Division One East in 2007. 2008 saw them reach the County Cup final, losing on penalties to National League club Colchester United before clinching the Division One South title to gain promotion. Chelmsford City are a Charter Standard Club who are committed to improving the profile of female football and providing the chance for women of all ages and ability to play. www.brentwoodtownladiesfc.co.uk 7
