Operating Highlights 2016 was the second complete year of operation for the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre and the first full year of uninterrupted programming. 9
Programming Highlights 34,899 community residents utilized walking track hours 1,350 Learn to Swim lessons ranging from Guardian Swim to Advanced Leadership programs New programs continued to grow, including SPLASH, Synchro and Adapted and Integrated swim lessons Aquatic programming for University students added 72,400 people attended leisure and lane swims 10
Programming Highlights Women Only programs offered in the fitness centre and pools. Women Only Learn to Swim and Women Only Interhouse and Intermural students programs offered 76,000 children, youth and older adults attended free drop-in program opportunities 382 participants were registered in March Break and Summer Camp programs More than 11,600 people registered for City programs offered at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre 3,800 registered for programs at the facility through the City of Toronto Welcome Policy 11
Programming Highlights Through a partnership with Jumpstart, Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre Inc. launched a Learn to Train program delivered to students from local elementary and high schools New student clubs including the UTSC Swim Club, UTSC Underwater Club, Powerlifting, Dragonboat, Cheerleading, and Rock Climbing increased membership in campus athletics student organizations to 400 Community basketball league grew with Fall/Winter sessions reaching 16 team capacity and summer session growing to a 32-team league; largest summer basketball league in the City of Toronto Delivered monthly healthy lifestyle workshops to community members and students on injury prevention, the importance of sleep and recovery, healthy eating habits, healthy joints, etc. 12
Programming Highlights Family Day community open house drew over 1,900 visitors Scarborough franchise of the new Canadian Basketball League called the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre home Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) launched its youth developmental league Restructured membership rates and increased community fitness memberships to over 2,500 In a partnership with Brave T.O., hosted and participated in a new adventure race presented by The Scarborough Hospital Foundation 13
High Performance Sport 14 High Performance Sport groups utilize the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre Five Swimming Canada High Performance Centre Ontario (HPCO) swimmers training at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre won 8 medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics Penny Oleksiak won gold in the 100m freestyle, silver in the 100m butterfly and two bronze medals as part of the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x200m freestyle relay teams in Rio 14
Canadian Sport Institute Ontario Supported 140 Olympic and Paralympic athletes who competed at the Rio 2016 Games CSIO affiliated athletes contributed to 13 (3 Gold, 3 Silver, 7 Bronze) of Canada s 22 Olympic medals and 4 Paralympic Bronze medals CSIO reception honouring 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Medalists ONTARIO Many of these affiliated athletes call CSIO at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre home, as their daily training environment 15
