To Our Fellow Cattle Producers, This is our 17th annual sale, but there are decades worth of cattle breeding and selection that have gone into today s sale. Behind each of these calves is a specific cow family that we have studied on, pored over, selectively culled from, and enhanced through genetic selection. We say this every year, and look forward to saying it next year and beyond: the heart of our program.is the cow. Because good bulls come from good mothers. Building the benchmark cowherd we have today has taken time and dedication, but the result is this very good set of bull calves before you. We remain dedicated to breeding bulls for maximum structural soundness, consistency and balanced growth. Medicine Man Bulls A Little More About Fertility Testing All our bulls are, obviously, semen tested. In fact, they do not leave here if we aren t 100% satisfied with how they test. But that s just not our word saying that. Instead, we ll use an outside source that of our many repeat customers. e reports we continue to receive from our customers is that the settling rates of Nold Family Angus bulls are outstanding. We have over 65 years of semen testing experience, and in that time we ve learned there is an art and science to the procedure. It is way more than just putting a probe in a bull and turning on the machine. ere are so many factors that affect how well a bull performs on testing day: any sudden changes in weather; whether it s sunny, cool, warm, etc. Another factor to remember is that we are evaluating yearling bulls. ey are just reaching puberty. And how they have been fed and developed is a huge factor in semen quality. ey can be underfed or overfed and neither are good. So that is one more major reason it is imperative to optimize the best in nutrition programs, which we do. A few final thoughts. Bull performance and semen quality is closely intertwined. How bulls have been fed now affects performance later. With sperm development being a 60-day process, a breeding bull needs optimal nutrition at least two months prior to turn-out. With NFA breeding, management and development, we want to do all we can on our end to ensure the best possible outcome when you preg check. Page 6 Nold Family Angus 17th Annual Bull Sale
