Registration is closed and all participating students should have received a confirmation email. Please contact Liza Davidov (lizajfarina@yahoo.com) or Shani Lipset (shani_lipset@yahoo.com) if you have not. We are in need of a few more interviewers! Please consider lending a hand on Expo night. Interviewing the kids is a fun and low key way to help out. Be sure to read the attached instructions for project drop off and important Expo information. In addition, ALL students will have an art piece displayed throughout the OSS hallways. Students can also contribute to our community art installations in the cafe. *Donations of yarn and string are needed to create community weavings/string art. Please contact Megan Stolarski meglis@hotmail.com if you can contribute any of these items. WIZARD OF WORDS UPDATE Last Friday, author and illustrator, Daniel Kirk, visited our K-2 grade students. Mr. Kirk authored the Library Mouse series and Snow Dude. The children listened to an interesting presentation on writing and illustrating. They also enjoyed a visit from the Library Mouse himself, Sam. Due to the snow day, the Wizard of Words presentation for students in grades 3-5 had to be rescheduled. Author Sarah Weeks will visit Oak Street School on Thursday, March 26th. Books ordered from Ms. Weeks will be distributed at that time. FAMILY READING NIGHT A WILD SUCCESS! Thank you to our exceptional teachers, Oak Street staff, 4th and 5th grade volunteers, parent volunteers, and to everyone who attended our 14th annual Family Reading Night; it was a great success! We appreciated all the help everyone provided throughout the night. We feel very fortunate to have such amazing and talented teachers and families at Oak Street School. See you next year! Page 2 BATTLE OF THE BOOKS UPDATE Practice Sessions Sign-up, Team Spokesperson Names Due We are less than a month away from Battle nights for both of the 4th grade teams on Tuesday, April 7th, and the 5th grade teams on Thursday, April 9th. All participants should be finishing up their books this month and memorizing book titles and authors. This is a great time for teams to practice, as well as finalize plans for their costumes and team poster. Practice sessions in the auditorium begin on Thursday, March 19th; sign-ups are underway so please check the PTO website for details. MIDDLE SCHOOL STRESS FEATURED TOPIC OF WAMS PTO MEETING Thursday, April 2, 9:15 AM Open to all parents in Bernards Township, but may be of particular interested to parents of rising 5th graders: The William Annin Middle School PTO is pleased to present Lauren Muriello from the Well-Being Therapy Center on Helping Your Child Manage The Academic and Social Pressures of Middle School, at our General PTO Meeting on Thursday, April 2, from 9:15 AM to 11 AM, in the WAMS Auditorium. Ms. Muriello has also presented at Ridge High School for parents of teens dealing with stressors at the high school level. Please see flyer below for more information. CROSSING GUARDS NEEDED Do you, or someone you know, have time available to help provide safe access for our children as they go to and from school? Bernards Township is currently looking for regular and substitute school crossing guards. The positions run from September to June. The starting rate of pay is $15.00 per hour. Morning posts run from 7:00 AM 7:45 AM, and from 8:00 AM-9:00 AM. Afternoon posts are from 2:15 PM-2:45 PM and 3:00 PM 3:45 PM. If you are interested, or know of someone who is, please contact employment@bernards.org. 3v3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT Register by Sunday, March 15 Boys and Girls 3v3 Basketball Tournament for 4TH THRU 12TH GRADERS to be held on Sunday, March 22 nd, in the Ridge High School Gym. Let the March Madness ensue with friends creating teams of 3-4 players, making T- shirts/uniforms (if they like to show their team spirit) and have a lot of fun playing basketball in their age brackets. Each team will play 3 games before moving into a single elimination playoff until a champion wins each division. Registration deadline is March 15th and a Ridge Basketball Tournament T-shirt is guaranteed to each player who pre-registers. Questions? Thursday, April 30 WAMS Spring Luncheon All are welcome to come to the annual WAMS Lunch & Laugh on Thursday, April 30, from 10 AM 2 PM, at the Basking Ridge Country Club. Lunch is served at noon, but the shopping begins at 10 AM with a wide selection of goods, many perfect for Mother s Day. 20% of all sales will benefit William Annin Middle School. Page 3 GIRL SCOUTS, DAISIES HELPING ST. HUBERT'S ANIMAL CENTER Please help Junior Girl Scout Troop 60700 and Daisy Troop 60506 on their quest to obtain an Animal Shelter Patch by fulfilling the wish list for St. Hubert's Animal Shelter in Madison. It is the girls passion to help these animals which are not as fortunate as all of us to be in a loving home with food and shelter at all times. The girls are requesting items from the shelter s wish list and will present their collections to St. Hubert's at the end of the month. Collection bins will be set up by the Main Office and by the Oak Street entrance beginning Monday, March 9th for 2 weeks. The items with the most priority are as follows: * Canned cat and kitten food (ground, no fish) * Canned dog and puppy food * Pedigree or purina brand dog and cat food (wet and dry) * Soft treats * Blankets and towels * Scoopable/clumping kitty litter Enrichments items include: * Kongs * Hard dog toys * Nylabones * Petsmart, Petco, or Pet Valu gift cards * Supermarket gift cards This is just a list provided to us, however any small contribution will make a big difference in the lives of these animals. Please consider helping the girls with this great cause.
