Kelly scored a game-high 15 points, sinking 11-of-13 from the line while Rutnik pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked two shots in the win. In the return meeting, Kelly once again came up big for the Pioneers, netting a career-high 25 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to lead Sacred Heart to a 55-44 win in New Britain. Central s Kim Kopecko recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The two schools met for the first time during the 1979-80 season, with the Blue Devils coming away 74-55 winners. Scouting the Blue Devils... Central Connecticut enters tonight s contest with a 7-18 overall record and 6-9 in the Northeast Conference. The Blue Devils have lost six of their last seven ball games and are coming off a 51-44 loss to Long Island on Tuesday. She is also averaging 2.5 rebounds and has picked up a teamhigh 31 steals on the year. The Pioneers have qualified for the NEC Tournament each of their three seasons in the league and have never finished lower than third in the conference standings. The Coaches Ed Swanson (SHU 89) is in his 13 th season as head coach at his alma matar. Swanson posts a 189-166 record in his career at Sacred Heart. For the first time since the 1999-00 season, the Pioneers have won six-straight and have tied the longest win-streak in school history. The last time a SHU team won six-straight was during the 1995-96 season, when the Pioneers finished a program best 20-7. A win tonight will give the Pioneers a seven game winning streak, the longest in the program s 29 year history. Third-Straight Winning Season... At 16-8, the Pioneers are assured of their third-straight winning season and eighthstraight season with at least a.500 record. In their four seasons in Division I, Sacred Heart holds a 63-47 overall record. The last time Sacred Heart ended a season with a losing record was in 1994-95, when they finished 11-16. With two more wins, the Pioneers will equal their best win total in Division I with 18 (2001-02). The 1995-96 team posted a program-best 20 wins. Kelly and Kohl Verizon Academic All-Americans... Rutnik is pulling down 10.5 boards and scoring 10.8 points per game. She is avearaging 9.4 points and 7.4 rebounds on the season. Pioneers Just Offensive... Sacred Heart has been on an offensive tear of late, posting four-straight solid efforts at the offensive end of the court. The Pioneers are coming off a 66-47 win over UMBC on Monday and notched backto-back 20 point plus wins in the last week. SHU pounded Central Connecticut to the tune of 70-49 and came back to rip NEC co-leaders, Quinnipiac, 82-53. The Pioneers shot 50% for just the third time this season against the Retirievers, hitting 24-of-46 (.522) from the floor. Against CCSU, Sacred Heart shot a season-best 52.9% (9-17) from three-point range. The Pioneers are averaging 72.2 points per game while shooting 49.3% and 48.8% from three over the stretch. Sacred Heart Bomb Squad...The Pioneers have been down right lethal of late from long range, burying 48.8% (40-82) of their three s in the last four games. SHU tied a school record with 13 makes from behind the arc in their last meeting with the Blue Devils, equalling the mark set by the 1996-97 club against Keene State. Leading the long range assault has been senior Ashley Durmer and junior Ashley Kohl. Durmer became the school s all-time threepoint leader against CCSU and hasn t slowed down one bit. She is 16-of-25 from three over her last four games and is averaging 14.0 points a contest. Kohl has hit 14-of-27 over the stretch, scoring 13.8 points a game. Kohl on Point... Since losing sophomore point guard Allie Bagnell to a season ending knee injury 11 games ago, junior Ashley Kohl has shown she is more than up to the task of becoming the Pioneer s floor general. Since tying the school record for three-pointers in a game with eight against Robert Morris nine games ago, Kohl has been on fire from three-point range. The junior guard is shooting 50.0% (30-60) from long range over the stretch, averaging 12.0 points and 3.3 assists per-game. Kohl is averaging 9.5 points and 3.0 assists, while shooting 45.1% (37-82) from three-point range in Northeast Conference play this season. The Pioneers are 39-11 at home since joining the NEC and 59-13 since the building opened in 1997. Ashley Durmer SHU s All-Time Top 3-pt Threat... Senior guard Ashley Durmer had a career-night in the win over Central Connecticut and in the process became the Pioneer s all-time leading three-point shooter. Durmer, needed just one make from behind the arc to move past Chrissie Perkins (1994-98) into first place on the list. She wasted little time, knocking down her first of five long range bombs on the night just two minutes into the game to lay claim to the crown. The Nashua, NH native finished five-ofsix from three-point land for 21 points, both career-high marks. Climbing the NEC Ladder...Heading into February 8th s game at Fairleigh Dickinson, the Pioneers sat in eighth-place in the NEC standings and in much need of a win. Since then, SHU has ripped off six-straight and has clinched a spot in the NEC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. They head into tonight s match-up with a 10-5 conference mark and sitting in soul possession of fourthplace. And Down the Stretch They Come...The Pioneers are heading down the final stretch of the season with their eye s focused on their first-ever NEC Championship. Sacred Heart will close out the regular season with three-straight on the road, starting tonight. The good news is their opponents the rest of the way sport a combined 20-54 overall record as the battle for playoff positioning ensues. Sacred Heart is a combined 19-19 all-time against Central Connecticut, Long Island and St. Francis (NY). The Stars Come Out at Night... Sacred Heart is 10-3 in games played in the evening and just 6-5 in afternoon contests. Rutnik also accomplished the feat against CCSU, Brown and Yale earlier this season. In her career, she has eight doubledouble games. Senior Brooke Kelly picked up her fourth

Sophomore Colleen Duggan is second in the league with 24 blocks for a 1.33 per game average. She turned in one of the top-performances in the country against Lafayette, when she turned away seven Leopard shots to tie the school record held by Rutnik. Gotta Make Your Free Throws... The Pioneers are leading the conference in free throw percentage, shooting 70.4% (326-463) from the charity stripe this season. Three Pioneers rank in the top-15 in the conference from the line. Senior Brooke Rutnik ranks sixth at.774 (48-62), freshman Nicolle Rubino ranks 10th at.739 (51-69) and Brooke Kelly ranks 14th at.672 (90-134). Rutnik, Kelly and Durmer reach 100 Career Games... The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider things like margin of victory or where a game is played, only whether or not a team won. It is used by the NCAA as one of their factors in deciding which teams to invite to the NCAA Tournament and where to seed them. CollegeRPI.com is an independent duplication of the NCAA Division I Women s Basketball Committee rankings. Pioneers Ink Four for Next Season... Sacred Heart University women s basketball head coach Ed Swanson announced today that four student-athletes have signed National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period. Guards Amanda Pape (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic), Mary Rush (Waterbury, CT/Holy Cross) and Kerri Burke (Saugus, MA/Bishop Fenwick) along with forward Aleisha Mott (Ansonia, CT/Ansonia) have all signed letters and will join the Pioneers next season. Pape, a 5-8 shooting guard out of Trinity Catholic, is one of the top-players in Connecticut. She has been a first team all state and All-FCIAC choice three straight seasons and has scored 1,754 points in her career. Pape averaged 24.4 points last season in leading Trinity Catholic to the FCIAC and Class S state titles. Rush, a 5-10 shooting guard from Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, CT, led her team to the Class L state final game last year against Guilford. She averaged 26 points a game in the state tournament and currently has 986 points in her career. Burke,

a 5-7 point guard from Bishop Fenwick High School, will bring depth to the Pioneer backcourt next year. She averaged 15 points, eight assists, five rebounds and six steals last season and has been a member of the varsity team at Bishop Fenwick since her freshman year. Mott, a 6-2 forward out of Ansonia High School, will step in and give the Pioneers much needed height next season with the loss of current senior forwards Brooke Kelly and Brooke Rutnik. Mott has been a standout on the basketball and volleyball teams at Ansonia the past three seasons. In addition to her exceptional play on the court, Mott is a standout in the classroom. She is currently number one in her class and will be her class s valedictorian.
