Rain Sucks After being spoiled by wonderful WAKA weather for the first 4 weeks, we were unfortunately bummed when the lightning struck and the bottom fell out of the sky. Oh well. We weren t about to let any thunderstorms ruin our week. Most teams were out representing at Sandbar. Instead of competing in kickball, teams competed to see who would rule the bar. The Gators actually insisted that we award them a win because their opponents, B&D no showed Sandbar. Rumspringa and the Jagers were representing hard too. All in all, it was a good time, and I ve included some pics on pages 2 & 3. Schedule Update The games that were scheduled for 5/12 will be made up on 6/16. For an updated copy of the schedule, please visit: www.kickball.com/vapeninsula Canned Food Drive Don t forget to support our charity this season, which is the Food Bank. Britney Travis, from the 5 O Clockers, will collect all canned food donations at the field for the entire season. The team that collects the most cans for the season will earn some free pitchers at Sandbar on the last day of the regular season!
The legendary MarkAvery Claridge made his triumphant return to Sandbar.
Week 6 Preview Rumspringa (0-5-1) vs. Just For Kicks (5-0) This weekend, Rumspringa catcher Troy Southall and charger Ricky Holmes joined JFK and competed against some of the top teams in the country. No doubt, they gained some valuable experience and techniques that they ll bring back to the Springa. I wonder if we ll see them use that experience this week against Bryan Freed s squad. Rumspringa has been rapidly improving lately, as their practices have paid off. But for them to score their first win this week, they ll have to play nearly flawless, as 1 st place Just For Kicks has looked great from the beginning and is showing no signs of slowing down. The Burn (1-5) vs. Foul Balls (1-4) Foul Balls came into the Peninsula Division 3 season ago and were dominant, winning over 80% of their games their first two seasons, making 2 finals, and winning one title. This season they re rebuilding and have struggled to win games while integrating new teammates. This week, they face off against The Burn, who after winning their first game, have dropped 5 straight. Both teams will be looking to score a W and get some good positive momentum going for the stretch run. Chubby Gangsters (2-3) vs. TailGators (2-4) After some early lopsided losses, the Gators are starting to turn it around. Their offense exploded for 9 runs in week 4, and they ll be hoping to keep touching home against the Gangsters. Where they will be challenged is in containing a suddenly potent Chubby Gangster lineup. While they lost both games in week 4, the CGs were able to score a combined 9 runs against two of the teams in the top 3 of the division. In fact, they re the only team to score more than one run against JFK this season. The TailGators have given up a season high 9.5 runs per game, of course most of the season they ve been without catcher Taylor Wilson, who should help tighten that defense up. The Emperors Club (4-0-1) vs. Balls & Dolls (3-2-1) Funny thing about Balls & Dolls. No one ever talks about them as being one of the top teams in the division. You don t hear about how good they are. But they keep on winning games and flying under the radar in their inaugural season. This week, they ll be looking to rebound from a tough loss at the hands of the 5 O Clockers against the undefeated VIPs. If they can shock The Emperors Club, don t expect B&D to be under the radar any longer.
5 O Clockers (3-1-1) vs. Just For Kicks (5-0) This is the game of the week. After a slow start to the season, the Clockers have gotten back to their usual winning ways. In week 6, they ll face a big challenge with the unbeaten Just For Kicks. If Britney Travis can lead her team to victory here, it ll serve notice to the rest of the division that the Clockers are contenders. For JFK, this is definitely their biggest test to date. They ve looked impressive this season, but have had a soft schedule (combined opponents record: 9-18-1;.339%). I expect this to be a very well played game that could go either way. Jagernauts (3-0-2) vs. Foul Balls (1-4) The Jagernauts have yet to lose a game this season, and they re looking to keep it that way against the Foul Balls. And although, FB has struggled so far this season, the Nauts would be wise not to take them lightly. The Foulies have some talented players and athletes on their team. It s only a matter of time before they put it together. If the Jagers get cocky, Foul Balls likely could make them pay. Weather Outlook

Tidewater Kickball Open III This Saturday, Just For Kicks and The Emperors Club competed in the TKO tournament in Norfolk. Several of the best teams in the country played kickball in this tourney. And while JFK and the VIPs didn t win too many games, they were competitive and represented the Peninsula well. The finals had Meatballs (Ft. Lauderdale) beating The Situation (Virginia Beach). The Situation did have several Peninsula players on the roster. Congrats to JC Cashwell, Randy Devlin, Molly Bumgarner, Chris Bundy LeBlanc, and Joey Smith on your runner up finish in the tourney! Dave Dixon at the plate. Look at those gorgeous traps.
JFK took on a psychedelic flavor for the TKO. Fun fact: Coach Bryan Freed actually wore that shirt when he was in college. I m not going to lie. Dottie looked real hot in VIP red. The Situation TKO runner ups.
Tidey Bowl IV June 5 th, 2010 Larchmont Park 1167 Bowling Green Ave Norfolk, VA 23508 Attention kickballers! We will be raising money for a good cause and playing kickball while we're doing it. He is also going through Radiation Treatments to get rid of the cancer and will go through periodical test to insure it is not spreading. If you are new to kickball or simply new to this area, come out and learn about kickball. Registration is only $10 per person. There is a minimum of 4 girls and 4 guys per team. There isn't a maximum to how many people can play in the tournament. So, please send me an email message if you would like to volunteer or would like to create a team to play. Warn everyone how hardcore kickball can be! The 5 O Clockers Josh Chabot, who broke his fibula and tibia last week, forwarded on this message along with an x-ray of the damage. Ouch. Heal up soon, Josh, and get back on the fields next season! Have a great week! See you all on Wednesday! Brent brent@kickball.com
