Team Parent Training
What does a Team Parent do? Assigns volunteer roles to other parents Sends reminders to make sure volunteer tasks get done on time Supports parent volunteers with their tasks when needed Keeps parents informed of events and updates throughout the season (Picture Day, schedule changes, etc.) **Not all parents have easy access to email. Team Parent should have contact info for all parents to help with last-minute notifications.**
Volunteer Roles The Team Parent helps the coach recruit other parents to volunteer: Team Referee Snack Scheduler Banner Coordinator Goal Duty Coach and Referee Gifts Party Planner Picture Day Coordinator Other volunteer roles may include: Kid Zone Parent Practice Parent (to help as needed at practices)
Volunteer Role: Team Referee Each U8 and U10 team should have one team referee. Each U12 team should have two team referees. Free referee training is provided. Learn about soccer and get some exercise! Contact: rra@ayso1631.org
Volunteer Role: Banner Coordinator Take a vote from team on whether to purchase banner Determine cost parents willing to pay ($5-10/player) Make or order the banner, bring to games and Picture Day Directions for making a banner are on our website under Volunteers / Volunteer Toolbox Banner vendors: www.bannersusa.com $85 (shipping and handling not included) 2-3 business day turnaround www.teambanners4u.com $95 (shipping and handling not included) www.actionartbanners.com offering blank felt banners with pole pockets for $20 plus tax and shipping Find another volunteer to bring banner when you cannot attend
Volunteer Role: Snack Scheduler Create a snack schedule, assign one family per game (but not coach or assistant coach): Halftime snack (fruit) After-game snack and drink Bring water bottles and snacks for the referees Bring napkins or wipes and a trash bag for clean up
Volunteer Role: Goal Duty Coordinate parents to help set up or take down goals at home games U5 and U6 divisions Set up & take down each week Goals are stored in our storage locker and Game Day Equipment parent will bring to the field. Watch goal set up instructions on our website under Volunteers / Volunteer Toolbox U8 division Goals are locked up at Backesto Park. Coach will provide combo for goal lock. U10 and U12 have all games in other regions, so they may receive instructions for those fields to assist prior to the game.
Volunteer Role: Picture Day Coordinator Pass out picture day envelopes to parent (these will be provided during the season) Send reminder(s) to parents about Picture Day Schedule Help coordinate players on Picture Day Pick up pictures from the Region Picture Day Coordinator and give pictures to players
Volunteer Role: Coach & Referee Gifts Ask parents and players for gift ideas Collect money from parents for gifts (usually $10 per player) Purchase and wrap gifts and cards for kids to give the coach and assistant coach at end of season party (gift cards, soccer equipment, team photo, T-shirt signed by players, etc.) Purchase gift cards (3) to give to referees on Referee Appreciation Day (gift cards for coffee, restaurants, bookstores, movies, etc.)
Volunteer Role: Party Planner Plan party date, time, location, food and drinks Communicate information to parents early in the season, so everyone can plan accordingly (by week 6 or 7). Party suggestions: potluck, picnic at the park, pizza place, etc. Recommendation: restaurant parties where parents can order individually by calling ahead Be sure to make reservations 3-4 weeks in advance if you plan to have the party at a restaurant.
Volunteer Role: Kid Zone Parent All parents are Kid Zone Parents! At least one parent from each team should help remind everyone: 1. Kids are No. 1. 2. Fun, not winning, is everything. 3. Fans cheer, and coaches coach. 4. No yelling in anger, only clapping & cheering for encouragement 5. Respect the volunteer referees. 6. No swearing or abusive behavior. 7. No alcohol, tobacco or drugs. 8. No weapons. 9. Leave no trash behind. 10. Set a proper example of sportsmanship.
Volunteer Role: ALL PARENTS! Cheer for the opposing team. Players line up to high-five the opposing team & the refs. Make sure to thank the Refs! U5/U6/U8: Parents form a tunnel for the players to run through after high-fives are completed. Pass out the after game snack and offer some to referees. Allow time for coach to hold a brief after game talk with players and parents. Clean up the field. Leave NO garbage behind. If last game of the day, put away the goals.
