The coach calls, Right hand, and the students have to turn side-on reaching their left-hand across their bodies as far as it goes (showing the back of the left shoulder) and then trace a path with their right hand (no racquet) for a forehand (palm facing down through backswing, square at contact and touching the left shoulder in follow-through). Simultaneously, the feet need to turn to be side on and the student needs to step forwards with his/her left foot. The coach then calls left hand (the students have their hands in hot potato position), and the activity is repeated with the left hand and right hand together. If the coach calls, Apples! All the pears have a race to the back fence (the same for bananas). If the coach calls, Fruitsalad!, all the students race. Adjust game appropriately for left-handers. 3 Mini tennis-nets, 6 hoops, 6 velcro-ties, 6 flat markers, 3 baskets of low compression tennis-. Students to stand on either side of the net, student 1 will stand next to a hoop with. Student 2 will stand facing student 1 with a racquet in their hand. Coaches will ask students if they are right handed to pick up their racquet with their RH and the same if they are Left Handed, student then pick up racquet, which will then be their forehand grip. Students standing next to hoop and will point before throwing ball to their partner remembering the groundstroke action they learnt in fruit salad allowing their partner time to turn and get their feet in the correct position before playing the forehand drive, students to direct their ground strokes at the witches hats placed deep in the court. Students to throw 8 then change throwing to the backhand side. Students do the same on the backhand, this time placing the racquet on the ground and students picking up with their LH then adding the other hand for a double handed backhand. Students swap position after all have been thrown from the hoop. Partner Work. Students to stay in their designated area 8 i nets,8 hoops, 8 witches hats tennis, 16 flat markers.

Game & Focus Time Organisation & Risk Tennis Darts Students will: Use swing learnt in previous activity Recover after stroke. Rally. Rally Tennis Students will be able to rally forehands and backhands Matchplay Students will be able to: play tiebreakers, serve, hit groundstrokes Lineup Students reflect on their learning Students rally the ball against the fence and attempt to hit the ball into a hoop attached to the fence above net height. The coaches will be using all the instruction from fruit salad and add footwork, contact above hip height and to the side. Students to donkey drop a ball in play and rally as many forehand to forehands in a row as they can.they then repeat this on the backhand side Tiebreakers no volleys allowed. Coaches can designate extra points for different types of trouble created e.g. depth. 3 The coach claps his/her hands in a simple rhythm and gets the students to copy. Green Ball Groundstrokes -TECHNIQUE Wk 1&2 Students will build on their abilities to hit topspin. 5pm to 6pm - 60 utes 9-14 year olds Outcomes Students will hit forehands and backhands with a low-to-high swing-path to hit a topspin ball. This lesson will scaffold this skill and develop the students understanding of how they can use topspin to create trouble for their opponents. Intermediate Students will participate in four games during the 60 ute lesson. There will be short breaks for drinks Low-to-high swing-path Coaches should make sure students are well spaced in all activities and Serving make sure students move in dangerous areas. There is a risk of injury Scoring in Tennis Darts because students may chase into another student s area. Coaches should clearly outline the areas where students are allowed and provide access to where students don t need to cross areas. Game & Focus Time Organisation & Risk The Fence Drill The students will improve their communication skills, and understanding of space and doubles roles. The students play in pairs, threes or fours. The teams play out points. The player that makes a mistake has to run off the court and touch the closest fence. In his/her absence, the coach feeds the ball into the space vacated. 12 flat markers, hoops, 2 baskets of green tennis, 6 hoops, 6 velcro ties and tennis racquets. Pairs and Half There are risks that students will hit each other if too close or tread on tennis. 2 baskets of green. Tennis Darts Students will: Use swing learnt in previous activity Recover after stroke. Rally. Before students start hitting they are shown grips and swing-paths. Students move back to the far singles side-line and rally the ball against the fence. Their aim is to to hit the ball into a hoop attached to the fence above net height. To create an appropriate amount of time between strokes the ball should bounce twice. Coaches will make sure students swing biomechanically low-to-high, brush the back of the ball with a square racquet face (correct grip necessary), and contact the ball out wide. Individuals and There are risks that students will hit each other if they move into other people s areas. Fence where ball bounces off, 6 hoops, 6 velcro ties, 2 baskets of green tennis, 12 flat markers Game & Focus Time Organisation & Risk Forehand and Backhand drill Students will be able to: 20 There are two teams. Two students from each team feed (ideally, hitting a backhand if they are in backhand position and practising good technique). Each 2 games per court - 2 feeders = 6 students per court 2 baskets of green tennis

Hit the ball down the line or cross court with topspin. Doubles: King-of-the-court Students will be able to: play tiebreakers, serve, hit groundstrokes student gets to hit four aig to hit the in the designated tramline (the Senior Coach designates either the down-the-line or crosscourt tramline). You could use the witches hat near the centre of the court, so the hitter is encouraged to turn side-on (like the drill you talked about). It is necessary that the player counts how many times they successfully hit the ball into the correct tramline. After the four have been hit, the hitter will get to take as many witches hats down and place it in the target tramline. If he/she hit three in the tramline, he/she gets to place three witches hats in the tramline. The first team to knock over a witches hat wins the game. Ideally, if the feed happens down the line the hitter should hit crosscourt, as this encourages them to hit into space. Tiebreakers Focus on creating trouble, getting out of trouble or avoiding trouble off returns. There are risks that students will hit each other if people at the back are too close to the baseline, and that the feeders will be hit by tennis. 4 students playing and 1 umpire + one ball boy/girl per court. Treading on., 4 witches, 40 witches hats Green tennis Students line-up Develop listening, focus and reflection skills 3 Assistant Coaches pack away remaining nets. Divide the students into pairs. Each student has 30 seconds to teach another student 3 things that they learnt. They then have to find another partner and teach them 3 things (these could be the same 3 things or they could incorporate learning from their previous partner) Partners &

Yellow Ball Groundstrokes -TECHNIQUE WK1&2 Students will build on their abilities to hit topspin and slice. Low-to-high and high-to-low swingpaths Serving 6-7pm; 7-8pm; 8-9pm - 60 utes 12 year olds to Adults Outcomes Students will hit forehands and backhands with a low-to-high swing-path to hit a topspin ball. This lesson will scaffold this skill and develop the students understanding of how they can use topspin to create trouble for their opponents. At this stage, we also want students to start using biomechanics to increase racquet speed. Balance moves may also be incorporated. There is a risk of treading on. Coaches & Adults Students will participate in three games during the 60 ute lesson. There will be short breaks for drinks 1 basket of yellow. Scoring Game & Focus Time Organisation & Risk The Butterfly Drill or 2 v 1 Hitting groundstrokes with consistency and accuracy. 20 Before students start hitting they are shown grips and swing-paths. Students are instructed to hit down-the-line, cross-court or into space. The spare player can be used for feeding. Treading on. Basket of yellow tennis Trouble Students will be able to: Rally consistently with depth. Defend depth and width. Attack short- Matchplay Students will be able to: play tiebreakers, serve, hit groundstrokes 20 Trouble is a singles game. There are different variations depending on whether there is 1, 2, 3 or 4 students in the class. The game starts with two players attempting to hit groundstrokes deep. Once a player has hit three deep, she can hit the ball short or volley. If a player hits the ball into the service boxes before the three deep shots, the other player is allowed to hit the ball anywhere in the singles court and can volley straight away; this player also receives 2 points if they win the rally. If a player hits the ball out (deep or wide), the other player should PLAY ON, if the player playing on wins the point she receives 3 points. How and where should players defending, rallying or attacking hit the ball? 20 Tiebreakers Focus on creating trouble, getting out of trouble or avoiding trouble off returns. Treading on..
