The option to transfer is not available to Relay Team Members. For more information please refer to Asia Pacific IRONMAN Transfer Pilot Program page. All Relay team members are required to Check-In together at the same time to confirm their personal information, sign their waiver and collect their race items. A team member cannot sign a waiver on another member s behalf. This is for the safety and legal accountability of all athletes during the event). All relay members must have a form of photo I.D. (passport or driver s license). Only one Relay Team member must have a TA membership (annual or one-day). If you are an annual member, please bring your valid (not expired) TA card. If you are not a TA member and did not pay for the $20.00 one-day membership upon registration, you will be required to purchase one, this can be arranged by contacting Melbourne Office up until Thursday 15 October 2015 or at Athlete Check-In. At Athlete Check-In, athletes will be required to sign their own individual waivers. A relay team will be assigned one bib number. Each athlete will receive a participant t-shirt and a gear bag. Once the relay team has checked in, you will be directed through to Timing to collect your timing chip. There will only be one timing chip per relay team. Finisher towels and finisher medals are given to the runner upon finishing. If all three team members cross the finish line together, they will be handed their finisher towel and finisher medal individually. Relay teams will receive orange race bibs and wristbands, this is to distinguish them from Individual and Professional athletes. At least one original member from the team must compete on race day and two must be enrolled in a team to compete. Make sure all members of the participating team are present. 5
Timing and Chip Transfer Rules: In order to ensure an accurate chip timing reading, relay team athletes must keep timing chips on their ankle at all times. Athletes must make the chip transfer from ankle to ankle at the specified location near transition. Athletes must not run with the chip in their hands at any time to ensure accurate chip reading. The timing chip acts as the "baton" and athletes must handoff the timing chip to move forward to the next relay leg. Failure to do so will result in a DNF. Relay Team transition will be open from 5.30am 6.30am on Sunday morning for the cyclist only. At 6.30am, all Relay Team cyclists must exit the transition area. Relay Team s transition will re-open at the discretion of the transition manager after pro athletes have exited for the bike. Swim to Bike- Swimmers will exit the water and meet their cyclist at their allocated numbered bike position, handing their timing chip to the cyclist. The cyclist must wait until they are in possession of the timing chip before un-racking their bike. Once the swimmer has handed over the timing chip they must leave the transition area immediately (via the team s entry/exit point). Once the cyclist commences their bike leg, the runner is allowed into the transition area. Please follow directions of all Race Officials and Volunteers. Bike to Run- When the cyclist returns, they will rack their bike back in its allocated numbered position and hand the timing chip to the runner. The cyclist must then leave the transition area immediately once they have handed the runner their timing chip (via the team s entry/exit point). Be sure to familiarise yourself with the flow of transition including the Relay Teams entry/exit point and Relay Teams recovery. There will be a Relay Team s holding area near the finish chute. Relay Teams can then cross the finish line together. Relay teams will receive their finisher towel and medal upon finishing. If not all members of the Relay Team cross the finish line together, then the runner may pick up their Relay Team members medals and towels. Please note If a relay team member drops out of any leg or fails to meet the cut-off time, the relay team member in the following leg is able to continue the race but the team will receive a DNF- Did Not Finish. 6
Relay Team Cut-Off Times: Swim Leg 1 hour from an athlete s individual start time. Relay teams will be assigned to their own swim wave. It is crucial that the swimmer starts with the relay team s wave at the allocated start time. The swimmer has 1 hour from the start of their wave to complete the swim leg of the race. If the relay team member doesn t make their cut off time, the following relay team member is able to participate in the race, however the relay team will receive a DNF. Bike Leg 4 hours 30 minutes from an athlete s individual start time. If the relay team member doesn t make their cut off time, the next leg of the relay team will be released to participate in the race, however the relay team will receive a DNF. Run Leg 7 hours 30 minutes from an athlete s individual start time. Tattoos: As part of the athlete kit you will receive 2 x race number tattoo and 2 x category letter. Both the Bike and Run leg of the relay team members will be required to wear the tattoos. The race number tattoo is placed on the upper right arm. The category letter tattoo is placed on your right calf. Medical and Communications: All athletes are required to sign individual medical waivers no waiver, no race. This waiver will be completed at Athlete Check-In. Race Day Access and Schedule of Events: For safety and security measures, relay athletes are ONLY given access to their respected leg of the event. It is imperative that relay athletes properly communicate with their team. Each relay team is accountable for being in the designated place at the right time. Athletes are not expected to wait in the team s transition area for the entire length of the race, but athletes should be aware of anticipated finish times associated with each leg. We strongly encourage relay athletes to follow the event schedule and stay close to the Teams Tent/Entry/Exit area. Please keep in mind that access to race venues may be difficult or not possible due to road closures. It is up to the each athlete to coordinate timing and chip transfer. Refer to the Event Schedule and Changed Traffic Conditions for further information. Finish Line Medals & Towels: Volunteers will be instructed to hand relay athletes, Finisher Medals and Finisher Towels. If the whole team doesn t cross the finish line together, the volunteers will tick off your relay team and hand the runner the Finisher Medals and Towels as per the size of the team. If the runner is not given the correct amount of medals and towels, please ask the volunteer. 7
Relay Awards: Relay awards are typically given to the top three overall relay teams: 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd place trophies are awarded to male, female and mixed team place holders. Scoring is not based on gender or age. Please check the Event Schedule for the time and place of the Athlete Presentations.
