He ll counter Biscuits righty Victor Mateo (4-3, 3.57). LAST TIME OUT: The Braves defeated the Biscuits 6-3 in game one of a five-game series at Trustmark Park, extending their current win-steak to five games. Elmer Reyes led the M-Braves offense with a three-hit night including an inside-the-park home run. Mississippi (18-17) scored six runs on 11 hits while Montgomery (19-16) plated three runs on 11 hits. J.R. Graham started for the Braves but was forced to exit the game after a lengthy rain delay. Ryan Weber (1-0) worked the middle three innings to pick up his first win of the year. Weber held the Biscuits to one earned run on two hits and two walks. He struck out two. Play was halted in the top of the first when the skies gave way to heavy rain. The Braves and Biscuits resumed play after an hour and five minute rain delay. Montgomery took a 1-0 lead in the third when Cameron Seitzer walked and scored on a Willie Argo double to left field. The M-Braves took a 2-1 lead in the third. Cedric Hunter singled to right. Reyes then delivered an insidethe-park, two-run home run to left center. The last M-Brave to hit an inside-the-park homer was Jonathan Schuerholz on May 12, 2005, at Birmingham. Matt Kennelly led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to left. Kyle Kubitza followed with a double and Emerson Landoni walked to load the bases. Dan Carroll s sacrifice fly made it a 3-1 game. Kubitza scored on a wild pitch and Hunter delivered a RBI-single to extend the Braves lead to 5-1. In the top of the sixth, Seitzer singled and Argo walked. Jeremy Moore followed with a double to right, driving home Seitzer and cutting the Braves lead to 5-2. Mississippi responded in the bottom of the sixth. Mycal Jones doubled and took third on a wild pitch. Reyes followed with a run-scoring single to extend the Braves lead to 6-2. Montgomery added a run in the ninth to make it 6-3. Matt Neil (1-2) worked three frames and took the loss. He gave up two earned runs on five hits and a home run. He struck out four batters. LEAGUE LEADERS: Williams Perez enters this five-game series with the third-best ERA in the Southern League (1.50) while Gustavo Nunez ranks eighth with a.307 batting average. Matt Lipka ranks tied for fourth with 10 stolen bases. Shae Simmons leads the league in games finished (13) and saves (8). James Hoyt has appeared in the most games (15). As a team, the M-Braves offense ranks second with a.249 batting average while the pitching staff ranks fourth with a 3.39 ERA. APRIL LEADERS: Gustavo Nunez led the M-Braves offensively during the month of April, hitting.329 with two doubles, two triples and seven RBI in 25 games. After coming off the DL in mid-april, Elmer Reyes posted a.383 average with six doubles, a triple, one homer and 10 RBI in just 12 games. On the mound, J.R. Graham posted a 1.86 ERA in five starts for the Braves. Shae Simmons recorded five saves and a 1.46 ERA in 10 outings. Simmons did not allow a run in his first nine appearances. 600 WINS: The M-Braves claimed franchise win number 600 with a 5-1 victory over the Jacksonville Suns Wednesday, April 30. The Mississippi Braves entered the 2014 season with an all-time record of 589-652. LONG BALLS: The M-Braves belted four home runs in a 6-3 win over Pensacola, 4/26. The last four-homer game by the M-Braves was July 15, 2007, at Montgomery. Kyle Kubitza launched two of the home runs against Pensacola, becoming one of only 21 total M-Braves to turn in a multi-homer game (see list, P9).
