Sperian Warrior SCBA
Air Cylinder
Carbon fiber wrapped aluminum bottle with epoxy overlay. Hydrostatically tested Every 5 years When damaged Suspected to be unsafe (heat exposure, dropped, etc.) Valve overhauled every 5 years. 15 year service life.
45 minute cylinders (at 4500psi). Bottles have a burst disk that will activate at 6750 psi. Cylinder band (w/lac) and gauge are luminescent. Exit Emergency Reserve ONLY Firefighting
Previous literature states one could quickly determine the year of purchase and hydro dates by glancing at the LAC on the bottle. Due to manufacturing irregularities, this is no longer accurate.
The Breathing Apparatus Shop is now using the colored band towards the bottom of the bottle to determine year of purchase and hydrostatic testing dates. Last hydrostatic test date (Month/Year) Year of Purchase Color 1 st Hydro 2 nd Hydro 3 rd Hydro End of Service 2008 Purple 2008 2013 2018 2023 2009 Yellow 2009 2014 2019 2024 2010 Red 2010 2015 2020 2025
First Stage Regulator
Reduces pressure from bottle to approximately 115 psi. Built in relief valve set to 200-225 psi.
Second Stage Regulator
Bypass Valve Shut Off Button Low Air Warning Light Flashes at 25% Flashes faster at 10% Manual Override Button Reduces pressure to just above atmospheric pressure (14.7 psi). Positive pressure activated by: First Breath On mechanism Activating manual override button
Heads Up Display (HUD)

Flashes when air supply reaches 25%. Flashes faster when air supply is 10%.
Flashes every 10 seconds when batteries are usable. Flashes every 2 seconds when batteries are low.
PASS Light. Found on both sides of the backpack. Alternating green indicates normal operation.
When PASS initially activates, lights will alternate green and red.
When PASS begins Full Alert, lights will blink red once every second.
Low Air Warning Activates at approximately 25% air supply (1035-1215 psi). Will sound until 200 psi.
Rules of Air Management: Because these are 45 minutes bottles, if you work into your low air warning, you are considered to have worked 2 work cycles and will require rehab. V10-C3-S7
4 C Batteries power all SCBA electronics.
IntelliPASS - Integrated PASS System/Remote Gauge
PASS alarm will sound in the following conditions: No movement for 20 seconds Press and hold red alarm button Click red alarm button multiple times
PASS with bottle off. Yellow light will blink every 10 seconds indicating normal battery level and every 2 second indicating low battery level.
PASS with bottle on. Normal operating condition.
After 20 second of no movement, the PASS will begin a staged alarm, indicated by alternating red and green lights. Alarm volume will increase every 5 seconds until full alert at 30-35 seconds.
This staged alarm can be silenced by moving the PASS. Be aware of your PASS status! PASS activation should not be thought of as a nuisance.
PASS in full alert. This should be an indication of a FF in distress. Silence PASS s activated unintentionally!
Once PASS is in full alert, it must be reset by slowly pressing and releasing the RESET button twice.
Facepiece
Scratch resistant polycarbonate lens Permanent anti-fog lens coating Butyl rubber seal Nose cup with one way valves helps reduce fogging
According to a 2013 study performed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), SCBA masks can begin to fail at approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Know the limitations of your PPE s!
Voice Projection Unit (VPU)
Attached to right side of face piece Powered by three AAA batteries
Low battery light VPU on light Push button once for 2-3 seconds of talking. VPU remains on when button is pushed twice.
Emergency Breathing Safety System (EBSS)
Two step, pushpull, female/male quick disconnect fitting Dual fitting on 39 hose allows air to be shared without regulator disconnection
Universal Air Connection (UAC)
Used for refilling SCBA bottle in emergency situations with the RIC Bag.
