Beyer High School Spirit Leading Rules 2018-2019 By signing these rules, both the student and the parent/guardian acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to the policies and procedures included in the Beyer High School Spirit Leading Rules and Modesto City Schools Code of Conduct. The student and the parent/guardian also agree to follow them accordingly throughout the 2018-2019 season! ALL RULES IN THIS PACKET HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY SITE AND DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION. THEY WILL BE ENFORCED THIS YEAR WITHOUT EXCEPTION. BE SURE TO READ THESE RULES VERY CAREFULLY PRIOR TO SIGNING. BHS Spirit Leading Rules 2018-2019 GRADING: Every spirit leader begins the quarter with 200 points. These rules apply to GAMES AND PRACTICES. Grades are not a secret ask your coach at any time to see if you have had any points deducted. 5 points will be deducted from the grade for EACH violation of the rules below: The parent and the student should initial in the spaces provided adjacent to each rule. / 1. Hair is to be worn up in a high ponytail at practices, games, rallies, etc. This includes whispies. Hair will be out of your eyes and look neat! / 2. Nails are to be kept short and free from polish (for performances.) Acrylics and tips must be clear or French tips. Short length required. NO COLORS. / 3. Proper attire is to be worn at all times. No spaghetti straps, halters, bare midriffs, etc. will be allowed. Proper tennis shoes are required. No tennis shoes = no practice. Shorts and/or skirts are not to be rolled at waist. / 4. Absolutely no gum, soda, candy, food or CELL PHONES during practices, games, rallies or other designated times. / 5. NO necklaces, no bracelets, no rings. Stud earrings are allowed. NO hoop earrings of any kind. Pierced nose, lips, belly buttons, must be covered for practice and jewelry not worn during performances. / 6. Absence from mandatory practices before games may result in exclusion and/or benching from upcoming event. Failure to attend practice the day before a game / rally will result in a spirit leader not being able to perform the half-time routine. Missing any mandatory rally practices will result in a spirit leader not being able to participate in the rally. / 7. Any alterations/changes/additions made to the spirit leading uniform without written permission from the advisor will result in an F for the semester and a U citizen mark. This includes shortening of the skirts. Using a tape measure, spirit leaders will have a spot check at games for proper length of their skirt. All skirts are measured when received and checked for the correct size ordered. Spirit leaders who shorten or alter their uniform will be benched from all games and performances until a new uniform has been purchased at the expense of the spirit leader. Adherence to the MCS dress code policy is mandatory. Per Modesto City Schools rules, all uniforms are to be returned clean and unaltered. Students who do not return uniforms will be placed on the debt ineligibility list.
/ 8. Grade checks must be turned in on an as needed basis, as assigned by coach/advisor. Failure to turn in grade checks will result in benching for the first quarter of the upcoming game/event. / 9. No friends, boyfriends, parents, etc. at practices or designated practice areas. Parents are to address coaches and participants after practice only! / 10. Spirit leaders who do not bring their own poms to the game will not be allowed to cheer at the game. Poms are not to be borrowed from other spirit leaders. / 11. If you choose to leave the spirit leader class, it may result in a failing grade and/or unsatisfactory citizenship grade. / 12. All squads will come to school on game day in the same uniform per their coaches. / 13. On rally days, blue slips will excuse absences from 7 th period only. Spirit leaders are not allowed to ask their 6 th period teachers for permission to leave early. Blue grade checks with grades and a signature from each teacher will be required prior to the rally. Spirit leaders without the blue slip will not perform. / 14. According to AR 5133 of the Athletic Code of Conduct #17 states that A participant must attend school all periods on the day of the activity or will be prohibited from participating in the activity. Medical appointments verified by the doctor and/or approval of the principal are the exceptions to these rules. / 15. Spirit leaders who are benched from practices/games for any reason or on a medical note must still dress out for practice every day. / 16. DO NOT post inappropriate pictures/videos of yourself or others on any social media sites while in any BHS spirit leader apparel. DO NOT post any negative comments on social media regarding the spirit leader program or any program for which we cheer. This activity may result in discipline. / 17. Spirit Leaders who wish to sit on opposing side must change out of their spirit wear prior to doing so. This activity may result in discipline. / 18. All unexcused absences or non- participant days without a doctor s note must be made up or will result in a five-point deduction. Points can be made up by running the mile or other arrangements made with coach and advisor. / 19. Our season is not over until the last game is played, THIS INCLUDES ALL PLAY OFF GAMES.
CITIZENSHIP: 1. Absences/Tardies a. Absences are to be cleared through attendance as they would for any class. b. Unexcused/truant absences may result in a cut and/or benching by coach/advisor. c. Tardies will be recorded. Four tardies will result in a 30 minute detention and benching for that week s game. Five tardies will result in an unsatisfactory citizenship mark and may affect eligibility. d. Spirit leaders are to check-in with coach/advisor at times asked before the start of each game. The coach/advisor will have a uniform checklist. You must be in full uniform (hair pulled back, shoes, jewelry removed, etc.) at time of check-in. If not, you WILL be docked points. e. Spirit leaders will meet at a designated time and location and will walk into the game as a team with their coach. Spirit leaders are required to remain with their squad until the end of half time of the following game. 2. Appointments are to be made at times which do not conflict with practices, games, etc. Infractions will result in a cut and/or benching by coach/advisor. 3. Conflicts (tutoring/doctor appointments/etc.) must be cleared by coach two school days in advance. Failure to do so may result in a cut and/or benching by coach/advisor CONDUCT CODE: Spiritleading is considered to be a class of the regular school day, therefore it is mandatory that all spirit leaders: 1. Adhere to all requirements of the Modesto City Schools Code of Conduct. Infractions WILL result in a cut and/or benching by coach/advisor. Infractions may also result in a referral to Supervision and assignment of consequences as outlined in the MCS Student Code of Conduct. Three referrals to Supervision will result in an automatic unsatisfactory citizenship grade. 2. Maintain a respectful attitude toward coaches, team members, opposing coaches and opposing team members at all times. Infractions WILL result in a cut and/or benching by coach/advisor and a referral to the Supervision Office. 3. Academic ineligibility will result in removal from the spirit leader squad. 4. Expectations are high for ambassadors of BHS! If you are engaged in conduct including but not limited to, alcohol or drug use, unauthorized use of uniform or warm ups or engaging in conduct that represents BHS negatively, appropriate disciplinary actions will take place and may include removal from the squad.
