DCA CALLS FOR CHRISTMAS PARADE PARTICIPANTS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 1, 2018 MEDIA INQUIRES Glenn White, DCA 717-571-7691 The Downtown Carlisle Association has opened Christmas Parade registration by releasing new 2018 Parade Participant Forms. Community groups, schools, families, businesses or other organizations are invited to participate in the 3 rd Annual F&M Trust Downtown Carlisle Christmas Parade on Friday, November 30, starting at 7:00 p.m. rain or shine. This year s theme is Light Up The Night and all participants are encouraged to design their unit with holiday or accent lights. Prize money and prizes will be awarded at end of the parade. The parade will be held on Hanover Street between North and Willow Streets and will kick-off a weekend full of holiday events. The F&M Trust Carlisle Christmas Parade will host over 50 parade units of floats, youth groups, marchers, dancers, and marching bands, and corporate units. Emceeing the night is RED 102.3 hosts, Phil George, Rick on Red, and Sara Sage. New this year is the parade marshalling area. The parade will line up and start south of the Carlisle Fire & Rescue at 177 Carlisle Springs Road and parade down to the square. Marchers will enter into the square and wait for Santa who will end the parade and light the official Christmas tree and new Veteran s Courtyard lights. 2018 Carlisle Christmas Parade Friday, November 30, 2018 7:00 P.M. Parade Theme Light Up the Night! Rules and Regulations Registrations must be postmarked on or before November 2, 2018 Each unit must incorporate lighting in their performance, in keeping with the Light Up the Night theme. Each organization must have one representative report to the Northeast corner of the marshalling area for registration at 5:00 pm the day of the Parade (see Map). NEW!!! Parade Units will marshal in one of six designated division marshalling zones in the paved area south of the Carlisle Fire & Rescue Hall (Carlisle Springs Rd & E Street see enclosed map). Your unit will be assigned a division and parade unit number. You must adhere to that place in the marshaling area and parade. The parade is being provided with a Santa. No other Santa s will be permitted in the parade. The parade will proceed regardless of rain, snow or shine. See guidelines below for drop off procedures. If you have any questions please call 717-245-2648. Line up starts at 5:00pm, all groups must be in line by 6:30pm. The parade starts Friday November 30th at 7:00pm. Participants must be at your pre-assigned line-up site on time at 6:30 p.m., or you will not be in the parade. Inform all your participants of exactly where and when they should report. (See attached map for specific locations.) You MUST be in costume to participate in the parade. The only exception will be for drivers. You will be pulled out of the parade if you are not in costume. Porta-Potties are available at the North and East boundary of the Marshalling area (see enclosed map). Other than floats and marching bands, units should be under 60 feet long. Parking: available at open parking meters, Weis Markets, and McCarren's Supply. ABSOLUTELY NO THROWING OF CANDY OR GOODIE BAGS Throwing candy endangers children who run into the parade route to retrieve the candy. You may have helpers or characters walk along beside your entry and hand-out candy to children by the curb.

The Parade Route (see enclosed map) Parade route begins South (LEFT) on Carlisle Springs Road (Rt 34), then South (RIGHT) on Hanover Street (Rt 11). Parade route ends at South Hanover and South Street. Exit parade route Vehicles, exit East (LEFT) on South Street. Marchers are encouraged to return to the Square at Hanover & High. Return to marshalling area by turning North (LEFT) on East Street. Continue straight across Hanover (Rt 11) and take Clay Street to Carlisle Spring Road (Rt 34). Turn South (LEFT) on Carlisle Spring Road. The marshalling area will be on your left past the Carlisle Fire and Rescue Hall. PARADE MARCHERS RETURN TO VETERAN S COURTYARD (TOWN SQUARE) FOR TREE LIGHTING, CAROLING, AND PICTURES WITH SANTA. Keep your group evenly spaced between the entry in front and the entry behind your group. If you notice a gap in the parade please speed up or slow down accordingly. Group leaders will be held responsible for the behavior of all group participants. Please limit your entry to 1 vehicle. NO Paper Handouts (flyers, brochures, coupons, etc.) unless approved in writing by the DCA The Parade is being provided with a Santa. NO other Santa's will be permitted in the Parade. Marching Bands sponsored by: Dear Band Director, APPEARANCE INCENTIVE OF $300 WILL BE PAID TO EACH MARCHING BAND The Downtown Carlisle Association is pleased to announce your marching band has been handpicked by the "2018 Carlisle Christmas Parade" Committee to participate in this year s parade on Friday, November 30th at 7 pm. The theme of this year s parade is Light Up the Night. As such, we are encouraging all parade units to incorporate lights in their performance. In keeping with our tradition, the parade will facilitate the collection of toys for underprivileged children in the mid-state and to inspire community spirit among the central PA community by providing an opportunity to share in holiday fun. Our parade route is tight, so we are only inviting the best bands and most quality parade units to participate. Along with the marching bands will be dancing troupes, costumed characters and commercial floats, among other units. The parade day will include additional family oriented events, a visit from Santa Claus, and giant tree lighting ceremony kicking-off to the holiday season in Carlisle and Cumberland County.
