I skied on Thursday, Dec. 29, with Rick Olsen at Breck. Snow was acceptable, and crowds were manageable, just had to pick your lifts. That broke one of my rules (never ski between Christmas and New Years).
Wolf Creek was a successful trip. I was skeptical; however with the snow that we got near Thanksgiving, Warren and I decided to go with the trip. I am very glad we did; I was pleasantly surprised with the snow conditions; coverage was good and one could ski about anywhere on the mountain, and we did. The trip was a success with good conditions, clear weather, and good friends. Financially, it was also a success as the participants realized when a small check arrived in the mail. Thank you for all of you who helped make the trip a go and a success. Crested Butte The rest of the state has been getting snow. Crested Butte got a couple of good storms and is looking better and maybe even good. Last word I got: Rick has a spot for a single female and one for a single male. If you get a late impulse for yourself and a few friends, call Rick; he may say no, but he has been known to perform miracles. Telluride Gretchen Long and Marge Milne have put together a trip with many extras and some really unique ideas. I think you are going to be really sorry, later, if you miss this one. The city is just a wonderful place to wander and explore, and so much history. And you will have time to do some wandering. Your trip captains have several openings left that they desire to fill. Please help them and give them a call and commit to the big one! You will not be sorry! And, yes, Elaine and I are going on all three trips. Leadville Ski Cooper. Dick Bauer is again putting on the trip to Leadville. It is always a special late U-drive experience with good get-together parties and a great dinner in Leadville. (See Page 2.) The Prez Sez Happy New Year, Blazers!!!
Our first trip of the season to Wolf Creek was very successful. I am very happy that the snow gods gave us the snow needed to run this trip. All who attended had a great time and the ski area had wonderful snow. Our next trip to Crested Butte should also be a success as CBMR just received over a foot of new snow. It is also looking good for Telluride because that resort also received snow over the last few weeks. Our first meeting of the new year will be January 4. We will have a speaker from Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center. Then on January 11 will be our annual White Elephant Gift Exchange another name for re-gifting. You will need to re-wrap it. Remember the Over the Hill Gang (OTHG) day ski trips. Below are their January trips. If you are interested in attending, contact Rick Olson 719-216-2138 or email ROlson888@comcast.net for details. Snow Gods Smile on Wolf Creek Trip By Darlene Hunera Wolf Creek Ski Area is a ski area in southwest Colorado, located on the Wolf Creek Pass between Pagosa Springs and South Fork. It is best known for receiving more average annual snowfall than any other resort in Colorado, at about 480 inches per year. AND, TRULY, FOR THE BLAZER SKI WEEKEND... WOLF CREEK DID NOT LET US DOWN. Con (Conti Our snow conditions were pristine. We had gorgeous springlike conditions on Saturday and Colorado perfect skiing on Sunday with 4-5 inches of fresh powder,
(Continued from Page 8) Wolf Creek Highlights/Ski Lingo : ALL TRUE Apres Ski was a delight with friends, food, and beverages. Thumper was a bomber. Carving had everything to do with "S" shaped swooping turns and nothing to do with turkey. First Tracks on Sunday morning yielded smiles on those who left them. Lunch Trays (snowboards) were at a minimum. Plankers (skiers) ruled. Congrats to our five octogenarians, especially Gloria who skied in spite of suffering a broken hip last winter. You are an example and inspiration to us all to keep on truckin. We all enjoyed the dinner at the Firehouse Restaurant. The brownie dessert was especially decadent. Editor s Note: A highlight on the bus trip home was Darlene s rendition of the Mom Song. Only a speech therapist could sing lyrics to such a fast rhythm. A special thank you to Warren and Carol who did an excellent job as team captains. You made the Wolf Creek Adventure a fun and successful event. We had a great time!
