But will it be enough to end the drought and fill the lakes and reservoirs? This was the topic of discussion with many of our fellow LYSA members at the January membership meeting. With sailing season, and our Regatta, just around the corner I thought that I would do a little investigative reporting by talking to our local water officials at the Merced Irrigation District to get the lowdown. According to Bryan Kelly, Deputy General Manage for water resources. It is looking positive but I can t make any formal predictions at this point. Bryan said that by mid- February MID would have a much better picture of what we can expect for water in the lake. With a good six-eight weeks or so of possible heavy rain and mountain snow we all need to keep doing our rain dances and preparing our boats for what we hope will be a good sailing season! I will have an update, with hopefully good news, in my March column. We had a very nice turnout for our first meeting of the year at Round Table Pizza on January 12 th. The Board has changed the format of our monthly club meeting and potluck. In the past the potluck started at 6:30 with the meeting getting underway at 7:00. For 2016 we will be starting the potluck at 6:00 with the meeting still scheduled for 7:00 the Board will meet right after the general membership starting at 8:00. We felt that an hour of socializing and a little more time to eat would be nice to make for a more relaxed evening. Our February meeting will be held Tuesday February 9 th. We will meet in town at a restaurant or a private home with the potluck format. In the next week or two we will have a location picked so watch the LYSA website, lakeyosemitesailing.org, and your E-mail in box for the meeting location. The Board also discussed a mid or late summer weekend campout (or rental cabin if camping is not your thing) and sailing adventure on Pinecrest Lake. Pinecrest is a great venue for small boats. I was thinking (Pinecrest, continued on page 3) 2

Past Commodore Peggy Larson What great weather we re having, must be all those rain dances we ve been performing!! I know we re all looking forward to a really great sailing year and all of our upcoming events. Please make sure to check the website calendar and newsletter for the dates, we really want to see a strong involvement of the sailing club in the scheduled events and of course, race night!! Our January General/Board meeting at Roundtable was well attended and a great spot. There were some good ideas brought up and I look forward to working with this Board for a great 2016. See you at the lake! Treasurer Diane Sousa Hi everyone, I hope the new year is treating everyone well. If you haven t already, you will shortly be receiving your invoices for the 2016 club dues and slip fees. The clubs dues are due by January 31 st and slip fees are due by March 1 st. MAKE SURE YOUR SLIP FEES ARE RECEIVED BY MARCH 1 ST. If not you will lose your slip and there are no exceptions. Please mail your payment to LYSA, P O Box 3994, Merced CA 95344. Make sure that you include any changes to your address, phone numbers and email to update our records so that you are informed on all club events. See you at the lake! House Captain Linda Sorensen Hope everyone is enjoying the rain. Fixing up and cleaning the LYSA Garage was discussed at the last Board Meeting. I'll let everyone know more as Spring gets closer. See you at the Clubhouse! Ahoy to all, and good cheer in your sailings! News from the berths: Currently replacing 2 main dock support stanchions (4 sch. 40 pipe), that are wasted away. Please call out if a need to muster on the fore deck and trim the sails as it were for the berths / piers for needed action. Thank you. Port Captain LYSA, Captain, John E. Larson Master Mariner, USMM (Ret) (Pinecrest, continued from page 2) Port Captain John Larson that we could trailer a few of the clubs small boats up to the Lake, which is an easy hour and a half drive from Merced in the High Sierra off of Highway 108. If anyone is interested in helping with the planning of this trip please contact me so we can get dates set. I hope too see a crowd at the February meeting in the mean time; please do not hesitate to contact me with any comments or concerns. I also want to welcome new LYSA members Jim & Marcie Correa to the club! Jim just recently purchased a Snipe and is anxious to get out on the water. When you see Jim and Marcie at the Lake or meetings please give them a big LYSA welcome. Cruise/Social Capt. Matt Loeffler I am looking forward to a fun, sailing filled year at LAKE YOSEMITE. Keep the positive vibrations heading to a rain and snow filled winter. I d like to have everyone go to a Non LYSA event as a LYSA group. Our own Jay Sousa will be having a show at the Merced Multicultural Center, entitled Face of an Athlete on Friday the 12 th from 6 to 8, in the prime downstairs spot. It would be fun to meet at Pinocchio s Restaurant for dinner at 5 and head across the street in time for the show. If interested please contact me. Another event I d like people to start greening up to is our Annual Saint Patty s Day Dinner. It will be at the lake at 6 PM. Get your green beer and head on out. Oh, and before I forget (highly unlikely) there is a certain someone that has a great dark chocolate and dark beer desert that is just wonderful. That s all for now, please take a look at the schedule and mark the important events on your calendar. Remember, keep the rain ju ju going.
