UNIT 3 COURIER Fostering Community Spirit Through Positive Communication Volume 21, Issue 3, March 2016, Mainlands of Tamarac by the Gulf Unit 3 Website www.mainlands.org Editor, Peter Cunningham, 727-592-9715 or mainlands@comcast.net Mainlands Cable TV info channel 732 (w/hd cable box) or 98.1 (w/o box) Unit 3 Home Owner s Board meeting on March 3, 2016 at 7 pm in the Clubhouse. Agenda on bulletin board. HOB PRESIDENT S MESSAGE JIM CRAIG It s March, spring is around the corner and events are flying by. As you read through the Courier you will see our very strong clubs have filled the month with many activities to enjoy. Coming from two other condo units before moving to Mainlands, it is great to see this and the crowds that attend. Just a sure sign of how good it is to live in Mainlands Unit Three. I want to recognize Jack Oberlin for his service to our community as he has submitted his resignation. Jack has served the community for many years as our Alterations Director. Thanks Jack. I want to also recognize Rose Brandenstein. As you come into Unit Three, you may have noticed the Welcome signs look better and brighter. Rose volunteered her time to repaint them and they just look great. Thanks Rose. A wealth of talent lives in Unit 3 and Rose is an example of one. The business of Unit Three will be conducted at the next Home Owner s Board meeting on March 3 at 7pm in the Clubhouse. The agenda will be posted on the bulletin board, so check it out and try to be at the meeting. See the brief article about THE BIRDS on page 4. SOCIAL CLUB Barbara Konvicka, President March is here - WOW! February was a great month for Social Club activities. Our Show/Dance was very good and everyone enjoyed it; especially with Dolly Parton being there. Thank you Peter and Helen Cunningham, and of course the Bean Team, for another great Ham & Bean Suppah. The 120 club dinner party will be March 6th, at 6:30pm. For details, see the Men s Club article by Collin Simpson. Next dance on March 19th will feature the Sequels. If you have enjoyed our dance parties this year, then you won t want to miss this one. Unit 3 will Rock the House! A Musical Variety Show You re In The Army Now to benefit Wounded Warriors, will be presented on March 12 and 13. Tickets are $10. The cast is rehearsing several days a week to ensure great show. Thanks to Maggie Ploesser and cast for preparing a great show. The theme of the show is based on a USO production in memory of all our Armed Forces who have served us so well. Tickets for the Variety Show and other Unit 3 events are on sale at KK every Thursday morning at 8:30am. Thursday KK always offers great fellowship opportunity and information about activities. WOMEN S CLUB Deb Engstrom, President CARD & GAME PARTY - Saturday, March 5th, doors open at 10:30, lunch at 11:00. Get your group together and come play cards or games, or just come for lunch. There will be many drawings for some great prizes during the party. You need not be present to win. Men and guests are welcome. Tickets are $7 and available at KK or call Sis at 561-7634. MEETING - Friday, March 18th at 12:00 noon. Have lunch with friends followed by a special program. Please sign up on the bulletin board if attending. If you have not paid your $10 dues, please do so ASAP. All ladies of Unit 3 are welcome to join the Club. VOLUNTEER - We are forming two committees, a nominating committee to find three candidates for upcoming openings on the board, and a holiday party committee to choose a venue for our party. Please sign up on the bulletin board. SPOTLIGHT DANCER SHOW - The Women's Club will once again be sponsoring the show on April 9th. We need helpers to bake a cake or help serve the desserts. Please sign up if you can help. (See Jean Simpson's article below for further details). The Spotlight Dancers and Co. will present it's 2016 show on Saturday April 9th, 2016 at 7 p.m. The Women's Club will be sponsoring the Show and all proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the Women s Club. Tickets $5 available for purchase beginning Thursday, March 10th at Kaffee Klatch. MEN S CLUB Collin Simpson, President Well, after surviving the winter and the Super Bowl we are being rejuvenated by the signs of spring, and thoughts of better days ahead. Unfortunately, for personal reasons, Dick Althof found it necessary to resign as our First Vice President. In that position Dick performed in a creative and exemplary manner, and will continue being a valued member of the club. Joe Billera has been selected by the members as his replacement. Joe has the experience and ability to perform well in that capacity. The upcoming 120 Club party, on Sunday the 6th, promises to be a huge success, only to be followed by our Fish Dinner on Friday the 18th. Looking ahead to April, our Italian Dinner will be on the 2nd. In between times, I'll see you at our next meeting on March 10th. Cheerio, Collin Attention 120 Club members: Sign up for the 120 Club Party should be by March 1st, however, members not present will still be eligible for all prizes. For the new year, the responsibility for the operation of the 120 Club has been relinquished to the Social Club Unit 3. They will have facilities at the March 6th party to accept your twenty dollar membership dues, by cash, or check payable to 'Social Club Unit 3'. The ten dollar guest charges will be accepted at the door. 2

We had a fun, but cold time in Fort DeSoto. We also enjoyed Gulfport where a bunch of our Canadian friends came in from Lakeland. We had a great lunch together and it was good to see Frank and Rose Parsons. The Farmer's Market and Craft Fair in Gulfport was so enjoyable we did it two weeks in a row. For March, we have the 2nd week at Boca Ciega, then up to John Chestnut State Park near Palm Harbor. Honeymoon Island also comes into focus for March along with a local walk at Lake Seminole Park.
