Chartered 1945 Marine Corps League Serving Greater Springfield Scuttlebutt Newsletter of Westfield River Valley Detachment 141 Westfield, Massachusetts Volume 65 No. 5 www.mclwrv141.com May 2010 Division Vice Commandant Richard Gore, Department Commandant Joe Summers, James Bouchard, Detachment 141 Commandant Fran Curnow and Joshua Bouchard. Francisco Duncan, John Foley and Joshua Bouchard

Commandant s Corner... Warm weather..and the activity level is going up. May will gave a full calendar with the flag pin duty at Geissler s, Memorial Day Parade and the school events based on Memorial Day presentations. This is a time when everyone is needed. Joe Mucha will have the school calendar available so you can set your time accordingly. If anyone needs a ride to participate in the parade let me or the Adjutant know. If you would like to provide a vehicle let us know also. Peter Pitoniak will have his PC in the line up for us and Don Rivette will have some seats also. Bill Penkala has the Color Guard duty and welcomes anyone additional to participate. Once again...the Detachment is the lead in the parade, it would be great if all 150 regular members made it...i know I m having a dream again! Also need some volunteers to help with food at the Detachment after the parade. At least 2 grill guys/girls, some servers 2plus would be helpful. Anyone who would like to bring in some desserts would be welcome...maybe some of you guys can make a deal with your better half! Coordinate with Gail Curnow. The Young Marines will be with us again for added support. Joe Knapik has some scouts coming in next meeting for recognition for their work with flags at the cemeteries Also the scholarship winners are scheduled in to receive their awards. They will be with us at 18:30-19:00 so come down and welcome them all for their hard work. Marc Dunne and Lori will be serving up the chow next meeting.which reminds me we will need a volunteer foodie for June. Thanks again to Javish and his wife for last months supper. Still need some more regular help in the kitchen for breakfast. On a sad note, we have just received word that Phil Sullivan, our Department Financial Officer on Cape Cod has passed away. For those that knew him, he was a fine gentleman and a great Marine. He will be missed. Matt Knas also reports that his Dad is in the Baystate Hospital recovering from a stroke. Please remember him in your prayers. That s all for now. Semper Fi! Fran Curnow Commandant Francis J. Curnow 2 Detachment 141 meets monthly on the second Monday at 1900 hours. Social hour at 1800 hours.
