Volume 1, Number 6, December 2016 Editor - David Lubke Dear Members and Friends, welcome to the Axedale Golf Club December Newsletter President's Report

Congratulations to Bernie Fitzpatrick {OBE} and Sue O Connor for winning their respective monthly medal for December. Also congratulations to Kerry Moore for winning the Presidents trophy and will have his name engraved on the perpetual trophy. We are currently experiencing problems with our irrigation system. A new foot valve was installed and there were some complications but also the second pump has now broken down and will be replaced on Monday 19th and hopefully this will solve our irrigation issues and have the system fully operational for the Christmas break. A load of gravel has been delivered and it is now proposed to properly designate paths for motorized carts over the next couple of months. The path on the 18th fairway has been started. I also take the opportunity to thank the staff and the volunteers for the excellent presentation of the golf course. It has been an arduous task this spring with the record rain and the grass growing so thick and fast. I also thank all other volunteers for the time and effort that they have contributed to ensure a successful golf club. I wish all members and families a merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year and may 2017 bring the continuous enjoyment of our wonderful golf club. And a quote from Winston Churchill: Christmas is a season, not only of rejoicing but of reflection.

Yours in golfing Rod Connelly Welcome to Our New Members Glen Frewin, Damon Buchanan, John Miller, Peter Warcaba, Michael Paterson, John Dunn & Troy Cartner. Captain's Report Presidential Cup Winner Kerry Moore had an excellent round of 65 which propelled him to be the winner of the 2016 Presidential Cup. Kerry had a steady 71 round in the first week and after having shot his excellent second round score, was unaware that he had been involved in the two qualifying weeks, making the victory even sweeter. Monthly Medal Winner: Bernie Fitzgerald monthly medal. Gross 91/30/61 nett won the Bernie pulled one out of the bag to win the December monthly medal. With the majority of the field struggling in the trying conditions (sunny, slight breeze, shocking!!) Bernie s 91/61 was a great score. Congratulations Bernie.

Natural Hazards Sunday Mixed Event The final round of the Natural Hazards event was held on Sunday 15 th November with Lesley & Peter Elvey being victorious in the 4BBB Stableford competition. The format of the Natural Hazards event was of 8 rounds played (only 7 played with one round cancelled due to poor weather) throughout the year and couples best 5 results were accumulated. The overall winners were Pam & Owen Davies winning by 1 shot over Loretta Prowse & Len Rodda. The Natural Hazards event has been a success with numbers averaging in the mid-30s and the event receiving wonderful sponsorship from LOLLIES2GO. A big thank you to Geoff Williams for his sponsorship (which he is happy to continue for the 2017 season). The winners received a trip for two, 2 nights stay including accommodation, meal vouchers and golf, generously donated by the Barham Country Golf Club. Our Sponsor are very generous in offering up these prizes so please support any them, letting them know you are from the Axedale Golf Club. Match Committee Match Committee meeting was held on Tuesday 6 th December with the main items discussed being; o Year book progress review of events for both men s and lady s calendars finalised with main changes being Men s Doubles K.O. series running over an 8 week span to hopefully reduce the occurrences of walkovers. Kevin Paton Day moved to March and on a Sunday. Abbotts Supply sponsored day to be the day of the Men s Singles K.O. qualifying round. The drafted calendar is currently being assigned sponsors for the various Months, Days, Events, before being sent to the printer. o Motorised Carts / Single Occupants it is becoming increasingly difficult in the Captains Office, trying to manage the sending out of groups when carts are only being occupied by one golfer. This has a delaying effect to the send off process

with the Sender having to juggle two carts per groups & walkers wanting to be with walkers, etc. There are currently 44 motorised carts at the club and we need to remember that a ruling (by the General Committee) regarding the maximum of two carts per group was made to assist in maintaining the course in the best possible condition. Member in a cart should seek out (prior to entering an event) another member to join them in their cart. o Slow play The issue of slow play continues to be raised to members of the committee. Ongoing monitoring and reminder announcements will be made and encourage groups to self-regulate to ensure they are keeping up with the group in front of them not the one behind them. o Saturday Arvo Comp round start time Some members at the Captain s Office to enter for the competition round are arriving after 11:30. With the first group to be sent away at 11:45, members need to be at the course and entered, preferably by 11:15 11:20. Captain s Office members to monitor attendance times. I would like to thank for everyone assistance since being elected Captain and say a special thanks to Len Rodda and Lesley Elvey for their guidance, thank you very much. To all, have a fantastic Christmas and an even better 2017. Rod Jacobs CAPTAIN S QUOTE OF THE MONTH You can be the greatest iron player in the world or the greatest putter, but if you can t get the ball in position to use your greatness, you can t win. Ben Hogan Professional Golfer on the importance of drives

Lady President's Report There has been a lot of activity this month and as usual the ladies are involved in every aspect of the club with good numbers playing each week and also supporting events such as the Natural Hazards competition and visiting Kyabram Golf Club. We also value the time devoted to the club by the members who serve on committees and help with catering when assistance is required. Please take the time to complete the club s Communication Survey on line as we value your opinion and are looking for the most efficient and effective means of communicating with our members. With the Christmas break coming up I wish everyone a happy and safe festive season and thank the committee and all members for their continued support which we rely on to keep our great club running. Raye Fleay Volunteers Wanted for Summer Roster

The Club is looking for volunteers that would be prepared to have their names placed on a roster for clubhouse duty over the upcoming summer holiday period. We anticipate that with the improved conditions at Lake Eppalock this year that there will be an increase in patrons wanting to play green fee golf at the course. To volunteer email Secretary Steven. secretary@axedalegc.com.au Dates for Your Diary December 31-2nd round of the Summer cup (Men) January 4-3rd round of the Summer cup (Ladies) January 28-3rd round of the Summer cup (Men) Golf Etiquette 1.
