YOUTH Instructional K-1 Basketball Program This program is instructional only. Concentration is on dribbling, passing and shooting along with small-sided games that are developed each week. Each child will receive a t-shirt. The program is co-ed for grades K & 1. You must be a Portland Resident. We will focus on learning floor tumbling skills such as front rolls, back rolls, headstands and cartwheels. We ll also explore several basic skills on the balance beam as well as some fun and challenging obstacle courses. Wrestling Class Day: Thursday Date: Jan. 22 March 12 Time: 5:00 6:00 pm Site: Inner Circle Family Martial Arts Studio Fee: $80 This class will cover the basic rules and regulations of folk-style (High School) wrestling. In addition to the rules, students will learn and practice basic stance, take downs, escapes and pinning combinations. No prior experience is necessary! Mouth guards, wrestling headgear and long sweat pants are recommended. For kids ages 9 to 12 yrs. old (Younger kids welcome with previous wrestling experience). Cheerleading for Kids A perfect introduction to cheerleading! Students will learn a variety of cheers, motions and jumps along with basic tumbling and gymnastic skills. The class also covers stunting at a beginner level in an informal and friendly way. You ll learn the basic techniques and then work in groups to build impressive stunts, which provide a really sociable aspect to the class. It is great fun and whatever your ability, you are guaranteed to have fun! Each week, we will focus on the various aspects of the game such as piece placement and movement, strategy versus tactics, opening moves, gambits, history and much more. If you ve ever wanted to learn how to play better chess, this class is for you! American Red Cross Babysitting This class provides youth (ages 11-15) who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, choose safe and appropriate toys and games, diapering, bedtime, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. This class is open to women of all ages, and we encourage moms to bring their teenage daughters to the class. Pilates 12-Week Session Pilates is an exercise option for everyone. Designed to develop a strong core while maintaining loose, limber limbs, the exercise provides multiple variations to meet the needs of different body types. This class will focus on the basic principles of Pilates to start strengthening core muscles (stomach, back and gluts), and improve balance and coordination between the body s limbs. Ice Skating The Portland Parks and Recreation has one designated site for skating at the Melba and Earle Prout Jr. Memorial Park on Rt. 17A next to the fairgrounds. However, please be aware that ice conditions change quickly, here are some safety guidelines Skate at your own risk and never skate alone. Ice thickness is not consistent. Beware of ice around partially submerged objects. Don t congregate in one area. Stay away from cracks, seams, pressure ridges, slushy areas and darker areas.

Town of Portland Sports Portland Little League and Softball Portland Little League registration opens January 1 st for the spring 2015 season for all softball & baseball divisions. PLL has programs for players age 5 through 16 years of age. Programs start with T-Ball for players turning 5 in 2015 and run through a senior program for ages 15, 16. All registered players are eligible to participate in in-door sessions over the winter to get ready for the spring season Portland Soccer Club - Spring 2015 Season Travel-Competitive and Club-Recreational Soccer Registration Information Portland Soccer Club (PSC) is now accepting registrations for the spring 2015 soccer season. Travel-Competitive registration will be accepted from January 1, 2015 to March 29, 2015. Registrations received on or after March 15, 2015 will be charged an additional $25 dollar late fee. Club-Recreational registration will be accepted from January 1, 2015 to April 15, 2015. Registrations received on or after March 15, 2015 will be charged an additional $25 dollar late fee. The PSC will only accept registrations through their on-line registration system, which can be accessed via the Internet at www.bluesombrero.com/portlandsoccerclub. The cost per travel registrant is $170 (Travel Family Discounts may apply). We anticipate fielding gender based teams for the following age groups during the spring 2015 season, depending on player participation: U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, and U14/U15. PSC also anticipates continuing the successful skill development clinics with Coach Vagell and his music and rhythmic activities for the Travel Teams (weekdays) and Recreational Teams (Saturday mornings) for the Spring Season.
