IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ!!! To all competitors, coaches, officials, and spectators, It is my pleasure to invite you to Winter Battle V on January 31, 2009, in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA at the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School gymnasium just south of Chattanooga, TN. Last year s 4 th annual event was a great success and we look for greater all around expansion for this year s event. The opening ceremony begins at 10:00am EST following a Coaches/Officials meeting at 9:30am. You can pre-register by Sun, Jan 25 for $45.000 or after Jan 25 for $55.00. It is highly recommended that alll competitors pre-register. I must have all competitors informationn (name, sex, age, belt, weight) by Friday, Jan 30. The venue is a large gym with ample parking and seating. The competition floor will feature MATTED RINGS and ELECTRONICC SCORING along with plenty of room for warming up. All players and their coaches will report to a separate staging area where all divisions will be confirmed and agreed upon by coaches. Each player s first fight will be matched as close as possible. Players from the same school will be placed on opposite ends of the roster to lessen the chance of fighting each other until gold medal match. The fighting willl be done in a double elimination format. If you are pre-registered, you do not have to arrive until your staging time. Pleasee make note of your staging time. You must arrive by 10:00am EST to register at the door. Black Belts may not fight in additional divisions unless asked for an exhibition match. Divisions may be merged to ensuree at least 4 competitors. Therefore, we plan to have high caliber competition in all divisions. In the last four years, the Winter Battle has welcomed players from over 35 teams coming from TN, GA, AL, SC, KY, FL, and Oregon! Many competitors have fought 4 or 5, and even 6 times! This tournament is designed to gain valuable ring experience while giving you your money s worth for competing. Those players that are on the current National Team of either USAT or AAU are invited to compete free of charge! WINTER BATTLE FEATURES!!! Fight more divisions! Any competitor may move up and fight with an upper belt division after fightingg their regular division. No competitor will fight in a division lower than their present belt rank. Samurai Swords to all Black Belt Winners! The 1 st Place Winner in each Black Belt division will receive an authentic Samurai Sword. Color Belts may compete in these divisions as well. The swordss are NOT to be taken out of their scabbard on the LFO school campus. Equipment will be sold at the tournament site that will have uniforms, belts, and sparring equipment. All players are to have their own equipment. All Black Belts, Coaches, and Referees should attend the referee meeting held at 9:30am. All schools bringing athletes should plan to bring at least one referee. Referees should wear a golf shirt, dress pants, and athletic/ /TKD shoes. Each team will be issued one (1) FREE Coach s Pass. Additional Coach s Passes will be $10.00. Coaches are to complete their info on one of their player s applications. The coordinators of this tournament have planned and worked many hours to make this a successful and memorable event. Officials will do their best to promote fairness and a politics-free environment for all players and all schools. Rules and Regulations of Winter Battle 2009 This tournament will be a sparring-only Olympic-Style Taekwondo Tournament. All divisions will be divided according to age, sex, weight, and belt (White-Orange, Green-Blue, Brown-Red, and Black). Schedule of Events (E.S.T.) 7:00-10:00am Day-of Registration Check-In 9:30 Officials/Coaches Meeting 10:00 Opening Ceremony RING 2 (Center Ring) 10:30 9-under Novice (White-Orange) 9-under Black Belts 11:30 10-13 Novice 10-11 Black Belts 12:30pm 14-up Novice 12-13 Black Belts 1:30 9-under Intermediate (Green-Blue) ***Demonstration*** 2:00 10-13 Intermediate 14-17 Black Belts 3:00 14-up Intermediate 18-up Black Belts 3:45 13-under Advanced (Brown-Red) 4:15 14-up Advanced Equipment All players must wear headgear (White or Red/Blue), Olympic chest protector w/red & blue scoring areas, forearm pads, shin/instep protection, mouthpiece, and cup (males). WTF Gloves and Socks are allowed, but not required. Uniforms may be any color. Winter Battle Sparring Rules All Black Belt Competitors Two (2) Continuous Rounds of Ninety (90) seconds (30 second rest) All Color Belt Competitors Two (2) Continuous Rounds of One (1) Minute (30 second rest) All divisions will be Double Elimination; thus, Black Belts will fight a minimum of six (6) minutes. All Color Belts will fight a minimum of four (4) minutes. AWARDS: Samurai Swords to all Black Belt Winners, Medals to 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd Place ALL COMPETITORS WILL RECEIVE A MEDAL All divisions will be full contact to the body. All divisions CAN kick to the head. Only Black Belt Divisions 14-up may knockout to the head. See AAU Olympic Sparring rulebook for all rules and regulations (www.aautaekwondo.org). For Adult Black Belts 18-up, weight divisions shall be: Male -130 / 130-155 / 155-180 / 180+ Female -110 / 110-130 / 130-150 / 150+ In the event of a tie, the players go on to fight a Sudden Death round for first point scored.
