A warm welcome to all young athletes It is my privilege to invite you to participate at the European Championships on River Soča at Solkan, Slovenia. For the truth to be known I should really say European Championships as in the total of eleven (11) days of competition events Slovene Canoeing Federation will be hosting a variety of competition and other accompanying events. Firstly the down river comps will take place, and three days later the activities will be followed by European Championships in kayak slalom for junior and U23 competitors. The main thread aside of the participation in the competition events will be participation and mixing of young people from various corners of Europe. This is the first time that the competition will be organized by common effort of two neighboring countries - Italy and Slovenia. The competition will be held on River Soča which is a border river between the two countries. Our goal of competition mixed with social interaction has the aim of getting to know each other which in fact should be the guiding force in today s world. This is something that we are forgetting all too easy in these times when the World is racing away in ever faster tempo of life and pursuing the material goals. So, it is with these motives that I invite all of the young athletes who enjoy the white water kayaking and canoeing to these European competitions. This will be opportunity to test your own skills on a higher level as well as come to meet new friends, visit and learn about yourself, the River Soča and the people living in this part of the World. To follow the promise of social interaction we are prior the competitions organizing a training camp for all young paddlers who would like to learn more and improve their skills in the sport we all love. Our top coaches and instructors will be available to impart their training experience so you will benefit and progress to the best of your abilities. ECA YOUTH SLALOM TRAINING CAMP 2012 - SOLKAN, SLOVENIA European Canoe Association and Canoe Federation of Slovenia are kindly invite ECA members federations to participate at the Youth Slalom Training camp which will be organized in the Canoe Kayak Centre Solkan, Slovenia. Goal of training camp: To ensure contact with better competitors in the same age group for competitors and coaches from countries where slalom is not developed on a high level and to gain wide range of knowledge in kayak and canoe slalom. Our suggestion is that competitors participating in this training camp are accompanied by their coaches or attendants who would continue work with competitors after they return to home country. All athletes will have opportunity to participate at ECA Junior & U23 slalom Championship (5. 9. -9. 9.) in Solkan. Participants: Competitors and coaches from countries where slalom is not developed on a high level. Proposed number of participants is two per category and one coach from each country. Competitors age is between 15 and 18 years. Maximum number of athletes participants at the camp is 35. Date: August 27 th September 10 th 2012 Location: Kayak centre Solkan, Nova Gorica, Slovenia Nova Gorica is located 100 km West of Slovenia capital Ljubljana near the border to Italy. Kayak venue in Solkan is 3 km from city centre of Nova Gorica. Contents of training camp: Practical: a) Developing skills of white water paddling b) Practicing of technical paddling between gates c) Tactics of preparing for competition d) Participating on a competition
Theoretical: a) Competition rules b) Planning of training c) Role of a coach in the process of training All participants will also be invited to take part at ECA Wildwater racing Junior championship (30.8.- 2.9.2012) in Solkan. Realization of the training camp: Organizer of camp, Canoe Federation of Slovenia ensures participation of coaches to run the camp. Groups will be formatted regarding the skills and previous knowledge of the competitors. Their coaches, if they will be present, will accompany them. Trainings on the water will be the most common practice. Every second evening technical lectures will be organized for all participants. At the end of training camp all participants will take part at the ECA Junior slalom championship. English is the official language of the camp. Participants will use their own equipment. If necessary the organizer of training camp will provide it. Due date to request equipment is at least two weeks prior to beginning of the camp. Due date to apply for the camp is July 10th 2012. Costs: Each participant covers his/her own expenses of transportation to and from Slovenia. ECA will cover 100 euro for transportation costs per nation.eca will cover all expenses for: training camp organization, additional coaches, local transportation, accommodation and food for maximum 3 competitors and 1 coach per nation. TRAINING: Official training period is from 2/9 5/9/2012. Two 35 and two 60 minutes sessions will be scheduled for each participating nation (approx. 12 group x 30 boats). Training in the period between 27/8 30/8 is limited due to ECA Junior Wildwater Championship which will also be held in Solkan.
