SAFETY REGULATIONS AT LURGAN SHOW 1. No Pesticide may be introduced to the Show Grounds other than under the provisions of the Food and Environment Protection Act of 1985 and the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986. 2. All injuries must be reported to one of the Safety Officer immediately so that he can take the necessary action under the appropriate regulations. 3. Safety Officers - Mrs. Michele Doran, Mr. John Harrison, Mr. Winston Humphries. 4. The Storage of gas in containers must be in accordance with HSE Guidance Note CS4. 5. Static exhibits must be erected in a way that ensures they do not present a risk to any person during the event. Insurance to be available for inspection. 6. Any ropes, chains or other devices used to tow trailers on or off the event site must have been thoroughly inspected. 7. Due attention must be paid to all direction and warning signs, especially those relating to pedestrian junctions. Speed at all times must be governed by the conditions. 8. The Police must be consulted on matters concerned with traffic flow. 9. All vehicles, carts and trailers used to transport visitors must comply with current safety and road traffic legislation. Every precaution must be taken for the safety of those being carried e.g. mounting and dismounting must be carried out only from stationary vehicles. 10. All demonstrations at exhibits must be of such a nature that there is no foreseeable possibility of injury to either the operator or the public. ANIMALS 11. Animals must be kept under control at all times and separated from the public as far as this proves possible. 12. The organisers will attempt to ensure compliance with HSE Guidance Note GS 36 as far as the showing of bulls is concerned. Handlers should be conversant with these notes. 13. For emergencies such as with fighting or fractious animals the arrangement shall be immediate removal to the trailer, horse box or lorry. 14. An excited or aggressive animal shall be removed immediately to its own transport vehicle. 15. Children or inexperienced members of the public shall not be permitted to handle large or potentially dangerous animals. 16. All dogs at the Show shall be permanently on lead and they should preferably not be brought near other animals. 17. To permit free movement of Fire and Emergency Vehicles, no roads shall be blocked by vehicles or exhibits at any time. Windsor Avenue Entry. 18. All Show Officials should acquaint themselves with the siting of items required for emergencies, such as fire fighting equipment etc. 19. In addition to the Public Address System communication equipment will be available at the secretary s caravan. CHILDREN 20. Every precaution must be taken to ensure the safety of children and to this end every Show Official and Exhibitor shall take care to see that children are safeguarded from animals and machinery and no children under the age of 13 shall be permitted to handle, ride or have control of any animal, machine or vehicle which might reasonably be foreseen as likely to cause injury to himself or any other person. 21. First Aid facilities will be clearly sign-posted. (At Horse Section and Cricket Pavilion) 22. All supplying food on the site must comply with current hygiene legislation. 23. Petrol shall not be stored on the site. 24. All paths, roads, steps and walkways must be kept clear and free of all obstruction. 2

SPECIAL NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS Separate Schedule for Home Industries (See front cover). Separate Schedule for Cattle, Sheep, Pig, Poultry, Goat Sections and Equestrian (See front cover). No Entries will be accepted unless accompanied by Proper Entry Fees. All Entries must be sent to the Secretary of the appropriate section. Catering available on the grounds. Exhibitors of implements, machinery, etc. can have uncovered limited space. Further details from General Secretary. SAFETY - We ask all Exhibitors to treat safety at the Show as a Priority. GENERAL SHOW RULES 1. Parties intending to compete for prizes must lodge with the Secretary a list of animals for competition, numbered according to the Prize List, not later than the CLOSING DATE, accompanied by Entry Fees, and a declaration signed by the Exhibitors stating that the animals are bona fide their property, and have been in their possession for at least one month preceeding the Show, else they will not be entered. Forms of Entry and Declaration to be had on application to the Secretary. 2. Animals for competition or otherwise, in order that they may be properly classified, should be at the Show Yard at Eight o clock on the morning of the Show, and cannot be admitted after half-past Nine. Not to exit before 4pm. 3. One servant or caretaker only for each lot will be admitted, and he must continue in charge of this lot. Bulls must be secured by a ring or screw in the nose, with a chain or rope attached. The competing stock to be distinguished by numbers only, and the owner s name shall not be made known until the premiums are decided. 4. The arrangement of the Show will be conducted by a Committee of Management. All persons entering the Showyard are subject to the direction of the Stewards and Secretary. 5. No person will be permitted to interfere with or to crowd around the Judges when adjudicating; competitors so doing will forfeit their claims to Prizes. 6. The decision of the Judges shall be final as to merit. Objections to any exhibit must be made in writing, signed by the objector, lodged with the Secretary before 3 o clock on the day of the Show. Such objections will be considered by the Executive Committee, whose decisions shall be final; a deposit of 25.00 to accompany the statement of objection, which will be forfeited should the Committee consider the objection to be frivolous. 7. No diseased animal can be admitted, and should any animal manifest symptoms of disease during the exhibition they must immediately be removed from the premises on an order being given to that effect by the Secretary. 8. The Judges shall have power to award Prizes according to the merits of the animals exhibited, or to withhold them altogether if the animals shown are not considered worthy of such distinction. Where 2 entries appear in a class 1st prize only will be awarded. Where 3 entries appear in a class 1st and 2nd prizes only will be awarded. 9. No person shall be allowed to act as judge in any Class in which he is a Competitor. 10. The ages of Horses, Bulls, Cows, Heifers and Calves to date from the 1st January in the year of their birth. 11. The Judge will be specially instructed not to award a Prize to any unsound Horse (lameness or any other injury produced by accidental causes not to be considered unsoundness), but in all cases Horses having constitutional ailments must at once be rejected. 12. Stewards of the Ground will be appointed, whose duty it will be to attend each Section of Judges, and point out the different Classes and affix the Premium Cards to the successful animals as soon as the Judges shall have made their awards. 13. The Stewards will confine themselves to the duties of their respective departments, except when, in case of emergency, their aid is sought by the Secretary. 14. Persons desiring to exhibit Agricultural implements and Machinery can have particulars on making application to the Secretary. 15. Entrance Fees will be charged on each Head or Lot or Stock, payable when notice of entry is given. For particulars of fees see Classes. NO ENTRY WILL BE ACCEPTED UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY ENTRY FEES NO REFUND/EXCHANGE ON ENTRIES 4

16. The Society reserves the right to reject any Entry they think fit and to combine or cancel any Class or Event that is insufficiently filled. 17. No stock or article to be removed from the Show Ground before 4 p.m. 18. The Committee will not be responsible for any mistakes in the Entry Forms or the Catalogue and any person guilty of misrepresentation or fraud will forfeit any prize awarded and the Prize or Prizes so forfeited may be awarded to the next best competitor. 19. Should any dispute arise for which a special rule is not provided, such matter in dispute shall be referred to the General Committee, whose decision shall be final, and in no case can there be an appeal to law. 20. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the exhibits, but it must be distinctly understood by exhibitors and all persons that the Committee will not be responsible for the loss, detention or of damage to any specimens or other property, whether arising from incidents or any other cause whatever, or from any act of omission by themselves, their officers, servants, agent or otherwise. 21. Exhibitors making Entries to the value of 5.00 will receive one free pass per Exhibitor to the Show, not transferable. 22. When an animal is entered in more than one class, and is awarded a Prize in the Class in which it is first judged, the Prize Card and rosette must be removed from the animal before entering the Judging Ring for the second or succeeding judgings. 23. In the event of Show ceasing to function, all Cups in connection with the Show become the property of the Society and must be returned to the Secretary before 31st May following show at which it was won.
