FACT SHEET Main Street Port Clinton is a 501C3 non-profit charitable organization striving to promote, preserve, and improve downtown historic Port Clinton as a vibrant center for businesses, entertainment, and cultural activities for residents of the community and visitors to the area. The Walleye Festival started in 1980 making 2018 the 38th Annual Festival The festival runs Thursday through Monday over Memorial Day Weekend each year It s estimated that between 5,000 and 12,000 people attend the Walleye Festival EACH DAY Over 5,871 children have learned to fish and competed in the Kid s Fishing Derby Hundreds of people each year line Downtown streets to see the Grande Parade Over 45 Food Vendors and 120 Merchandise Vendors attend the Walleye Festival, stay in area hotels, and support our local economy for five full days The Walleye Festival features many bands in the Entertainment Tent- Talent is brought in from across the state Main Street Port Clinton Board Members and a Committee of under ten volunteers organize and run the event The Walleye Festival gives back to other local non-profits by inviting them to run a shift in the Entertainment Tent which they receive profits from tips and 50/50 sales In a 2016 study conducted by BGSU it was estimated that the total economic impact of the Walleye Festival upon our county was $3.8 million dollars The Walleye Festival is Main Street Port Clinton s main fundraiser and the net income supplies 100% of our annual operating budget Main Street Port Clinton has organized over 62,520 volunteer hours for Downtown since 2006 Over $185 thousand grant dollars have been used in Downtown thanks to the efforts of Main Street Port Clinton s Design Committee $65,000 in grants have been awarded to downtown businesses and building owners in the past 4 years thanks to the efforts of Main Street Port Clinton s Economic Restructuring Committee Downtown Port Clinton has been promoted hundreds of thousands of times since 2008 thanks to Main Street Port Clinton s Promotion Committee
PROMOTIONS Print: Newspapers including Cleveland Plain Dealer, Toledo Blade, The Beacon, Port Clinton News Herald, Fremont News Messenger, Sandusky Register, Fun Coast, Lake Front News, Town Money Saver and other regional papers feature advertisements. Flyers will be printed and distributed using State-wide Street Team Members. A minimum of 5,000 flyers will be printed. Post cards will be mailed to the featured entertainers demographic groups with their corresponding sponsor. A minimum of 5,000 post cards will be printed. Sticker Exposure with Walleye Festival stickers distributed around Ohio with Walleye Festival Street Team Members (Marketing Interns across Ohio). A Festival Map will be created and printed featuring a general layout with sponsors. A Festival Entertainment Schedule will be printed featuring the line up for the weekend. Hundreds of Registration Forms distributed for the Grande Parade and Kid s Fishing Derby. Banners will be displayed along or over major local routes where permitted, along the main fence of the Festival on SR 163, in the Entertainment Tent and the on-site office. Billboards in the region will promote the event for a full month prior to the event. Regional water bills are sent with a Walleye Festival date and website reminder in May. 15,000 rack cards are distributed. Online: Social Media exposure including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Walleye Festival, Main Street Port Clinton and the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce Website list and links to sponsors. Over 100 Online and Printed Event Calendars including State of Ohio Travel Guide. Regional newsletters feature the Walleye Festival including Lake Erie Shores and Islands Visitor s Bureau, Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Solid Waste District among others. Local Broadcast: Radio packages are being considered with WKFM / WLKR Radio, WPCR, BAS Broadcasting, Clear Channel, Cumulous Broadcasting, etc. Local News Channels including 13ABC, FOX, and WTOL feature the Festival on air. Swag: Annual Walleye Festival T-Shirts and other treasures will be printed for volunteers and available for sale. Publicity: Press Releases will be sent out weekly in the two months before the Festival and daily the week of the Festival to hundreds of media sources regionally. All the Chambers in Ottawa County help promote the Walleye Festival. Walleye Festival materials are distributed at area travel shows during winter/spring. Regional Universities also participate in marketing the Festival to students.
