Warrior Wave 1. Sectional Recap What an impressive showing our Water Warriors had at Sectionals! The Girls Team notched another Sectional Championship thanks to all 18 swimmers and 4 divers scoring!!! It s the first time in our school history that we are sending 4 girl divers to Districts! Cora Dupre was a double Sectional Champion in the 50 and 100 Free. She actually won 4 events because she was joined on the victorious 200 Medley Relay with Kate Overbey, Brooke Woellert and Katarina DeCamp and on the 200 Free Relay with Catherine Geary, Lainey Newman and Erin Kelly. The Boys Team was Sectional Runner-Up for the 2 nd year in a row after having won for 8 straight years that s pretty impressive for a team of only 11 who could not fill all of the events. Winning events were Ian Mikesell in the 100 Breast, Jackson Comer in the 100 Back, the 200 Medley Relay of Jackson, Ian, Philip Forbes and Nick McCarthy, and the 200 Free Relay of Ian, Gabe Hartnett, Jackson and Nick. There were impressive time drops from all who were shaved, taperd and suited up! Most of the swimmers achieved their goal time they had set for themselves. How about those 6 Freshmen who notched their first trip to the District Championships (Grace Bohl, Will Fahnestock, Andrew Foley, Philip Forbes, Jonah Mikesell, and Abby Scheeser). Two of the biggest drops came from Celia Caeser in the 500 Free (23 seconds) and Bryce Kennedy in the 200 Free (19 seconds). If you look at the results, you d find that Mariemont consistently had time drops more so than any other team. Our team is sending 11 boys (9 swimmers and 2 divers) and 19 girls (15 swimmers and 4 divers) for a total of 30 (a new school record!) to the District Championships! The Girls have 31 individual entries while the boys have 18 individual entries. We have all 6 relays. Below you will find a chart showing our qualifiers, their events, times and seeding. Please remember, relays can change and it the coaching staff who determines how the relays will be swum there are no relay spots.

Admission is $6 for spectators. Mariemont has once again been given the opportunity to provide workers for the DII Girls meet. K-T Overbey will be placing the needed worker spots on our volunteer site. Girl teammates who are not swimming are STRONGLY encouraged to attend and work (you may ride the bus if you wish). Boy swimmers are STRONGLY encouraged to stay after their meet and be the timers this way you are on deck and can be on hand to witness the great Mariemont swims! There are many spots to be filled (approximately 18 more). Our program gets $$$ for providing the workers that we use to provide items for our team. Please help if you plan on being in attendance! Thank you to Emily Dupre who has graciously volunteered to ride the big yellow bus up to Miami.
5. Speed Suits It is sad that I have to write this, but after this past weekend it s the only way to communicate to everyone. I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars of my own money (sometimes more than what I get paid to do this job) to provide speed suits for Mariemont swimmers who do not own their own speedsuits. I ve done this to give our swimmers every opportunity to perform at a higher level alongside swimmers who swim year around and have their own speed suits. Unfortunately, the lack of gratitude and appreciation displayed by several swimmers has caused me to write this. Some swimmers assumed I would have a suit for them, many of them did not even say thank you and some didn t even do what I had asked and rinse the suit out and unroll it after they had taken it off apparently they think it s my job. I m not aware of any other high school coach who provides this very expensive opportunity to his/her athletes. I am not sure how to move forward with this concerning Districts. Perhaps those who would like to borrow a speedsuit might write a letter, not an email, with their thoughts. I will provide suits for Districts for those swimmers who feel it appropriate to write a letter. I will say, that I let 2 boys from another team use suits and they both sent me text messages not only with very kind requests but with several thank you s as well. 6. Volunteering Here is the link for our team volunteer site: http://signup.com/go/kmyjbtv Thank you to K-T Overbey for helping set up our team volunteer site on SignUp.com. Team dinners are now on the site and the following schedule has been set up to allow families to help with supplying the items for each dinner according to the group which is hosting. Date Host Food provided by: Thursday, February 15 th (Districts) Kennedys Sophomores Tuesday, February 20 th (State) Overbeys Girls We have divided up the dinners so that no families or groups are always providing items. Divers are encouraged to attend team dinners as well if available!
Please sign up to help with the Girls Division II District Championships. I m telling you it will be better to be on deck than up in the stands. Just think of the photos you can take and you might even be on tv! A huge THANK YOU to Ann Caeser (Celia s mom) for taking on the task of assembling our team s basket for the FAB Affair. Please contact her to see what you can do to help fill the basket.
