The Jets and Bruins will meet once more this season on Feb. 11/16 (at WPG). TEAM NOTES Opening on the road For the third season in a row the Jets begin their regular season schedule on the road. And for the third season in a row the team will look to win their opener. The Jets beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-2 to open the 2014-15 season, and they bettered the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 to start their 2013-14 campaign. Despite the team having opened on the road the last two seasons, the franchise has typically started at home. Dating back to the franchise s inaugural season in 1999-00, the Jets/Thrashers have opened on the road only five times in 15 seasons. The team s record when opening on the road is 3-2-0. The overall franchise record in season-opening games is 7-7-1. The Jets record since their first season in Winnipeg is 2-2-0. Preseason wrap-up The Jets concluded the 2015 NHL Preseason schedule with a 3-2 win against the Flames in Calgary on Saturday, Oct. 3. Winnipeg finished exhibition play with a 3-2-2 record. Centre Mark Scheifele led all Jets with five points (3G, 2A) in preseason play. Defenceman Ben Chiarot also recorded three goals, and had four penalty minutes. Ondrej Pavelec went 2-0-1 in four appearances, with 2.41 goals against average and a.921 save percentage. 3-on-3 OT Starting this season the NHL has introduced three-on-three play for all overtime periods, and they tested the new format during the preseason. The Jets were scheduled to participate in three overtime periods during exhibition play regardless of the game s score after 60 minutes, but the team ended up playing in a total of five overtime periods through their seven preseason games. In the five games, the Jets scored twice in OT, gave up goals on two other occasions and played in one game that went scoreless through the extra fiveminute period. Best Jets yet The Jets went 43-26-13 during the 2014-15 season, finishing fifth in the Central Division and seventh in the Western Conference, which is the best the team has done since relocating to Winnipeg. The 43 win mark tied a franchise best that was originally set during the 2006-07 season, and the 99 points the Jets earned is a new franchise record. The Jets also clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2007. PLAYER NOTES Young guns The Jets 23-man opening night roster includes three rookies, Andrew Copp, Nikolaj Ehlers and Nic Petan. Combined, the three forwards have played in only one NHL regular season game Copp played for the Jets in the final game of the season last year. Copp is coming out of college, where he played for the University of Michigan in the Big Ten. In 36 games last season with Michigan, Copp had 31 points (14G, 17A) and 29 penalty minutes. Ehlers is coming out of the QMJHL where he played for the Halifax Mooseheads. He led the Mooseheads with 101 points (37G, 64A) in 51 games last year. Petan is coming out of his junior career, where he played for the Portland Winterhawks (WHL). In Petan s four full seasons with the Winterhawks, he recorded 357 points (110G, 247A) in 249 games.

Ladd the leader Captain Andrew Ladd led all Jets players last season with 62 points. In 81 games, he recorded 24 goals and 28 assists. The 62 point mark was also a career-high for Ladd, whose previous best was 59. Ladd is entering his fifth season with the C on his jersey, and currently sits fifth on the all-time franchise scoring list with 271 points just one point behind teammate Toby Enstrom. Ladd s tenure as captain is the longest in franchise history, with no previous captain having served in the role for longer than two seasons. Czech Backstopper Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec played for team Czech Republic this summer at the IIHF 2015 Ice Hockey World Championship, which were held in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic. The 28-year-old posted a 1.97 goals against average and.912 save percentage in nine games. Pavelec s goaltending helped lead the hometown team to a spot in the bronze medal game, where they would lose out to the Americans. Pavelec posted career numbers last season for the Jets, putting up a.920 save percentage and 2.28 goals against average in 50 games. Pavelec was also named the NHL First Star for the week ending March 22, as he led the team to a perfect 3-0-0 record with victories over San Jose (5-2), St. Louis (2-1 SO) and Washington (3-0). Wheeler led the Jets with his 26 goals, including a team leading four that were scored when shorthanded. This was the third consecutive season Wheeler has led the team in goals. Additionally, Wheeler posted a +26 rating, which was 13 points better than the next best (Toby Enstrom, +13) and established a new franchise record, besting the previous mark of +18 that Marian Hossa set during the 2006-07 season.
