Friends of the Rocky River Public Library Spring/Summer Newsletter June 2018 Dear Friends of the Rocky River Public Library, 2018 has kept its promise of being very active. In January we had another very successful Trivia Night. Before the evening began we had a bevy of wonderful baskets that raised funds as well as a healthy 50/50 raffle opportunity. The event itself was a lot of fun and if you were not able to attend, we hope you will put our next trivia event on your to-do calendar. It s a great way to meet your fellow Friends of our wonderful library. Joy Praznik Sweeney We now look forward to our next fun event, Kids Membership Day. When you were a kid did you ever wish there was a special event to celebrate the end of the school year? Well, Friends takes care of that with this event. It takes place at Mitchell's Ice Cream on Thursday, June 14 from 11 AM-2 PM. It is a FREE event. Come and see the Magic Man perform, enjoy story time, face painting and activities with your favorite children's librarians and sign up for summer reading. Kids' memberships for the Friends will be available for $5 for children ages 16 and younger. The membership includes a free Mitchell's scoop certificate, a bookmark/membership card and an RRPL Kids' Membership pencil. A special thank you goes to Denise Wheeler who provided us a wonderful guide to follow in making our Kids Membership Day continued success into the future. In closing, let me encourage you to bring your friends into our organization. The more members we have the more support we can give the library. Membership is very inexpensive and 100% of any funds raised are used to support library programs. Enjoy your summer and see you at the library. Len Abrams, President

Director s Message I m really looking forward to warm weather and all the wonderful things summer brings: baseball, picnics, and summer reading programs at the Library. Our theme for summer reading this year is Libraries Rock, and indeed RRPL Rocks! We have so many informative and entertaining programs awaiting you this summer. Please take a moment to browse through the pages of this edition of Inside View, I guarantee you ll find something to pique your interest! I m thrilled to announce The List, The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet, and Fahrenheit 451 as our summer Community Reads. Look for many multi-aged book events for both these terrific titles. A new service I m particularly excited about is Lynda.com, a FREE online video learning platform to help you learn business, software, technology and creative skills. Find the Lynda.com link on our website. Stop into the library for good old-fashioned browsing or visit our website and learn more about all the library has to offer. We ll be celebrating the Library s 90 th anniversary in November stay tuned for more information in our next issue of Inside View. See you at the Library! Jamie L. Mason, Director
