Dear Coach or Manager, La Canada Baseball and Softball Association ( LCBSA ) cordially invites you to participate in our 7 th annual La Canada Summer Smash baseball tournament. This year we have opened up the tournament to include divisions for 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U. This tournament format will be pool play, with elimination games and then a championship game. All teams are guaranteed a minimum three (3) games. The tournament will be held at the La Canada school fields. The tournament will be held on Friday June 21 through Sunday June 23 2013. The entrance fee per team is $450 for Mustang and Bronco divisions and $395 for Pinto divisions. Players must be league age as of April 30, 2013. Please bring your tournament book with you on the date of your first game which will be either Friday June 23rd or Saturday June 24th your tournament roster will be checked against your tournament book prior to your first game. Copies of all players birth certificates must be available upon request at playing time. Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place teams. Medals will be awarded to all participants in the 7U to 12U divisions. You will be notified of brackets and playing schedules by Tuesday June 18, 2013. To reserve your position in the upcoming tournament, please return the completed application and tournament fee not later than June 12, 2013. We look forward to your participation. La Canada Summer Smash Baseball Tournament Playing Rules The Tournament will be pool play followed by elimination games and then a championship game on Sunday afternoon. Unless otherwise noted herein, PONY Baseball Rules shall apply. I. ELIGIBILITY OF PLAYERS 1. Players shall be league age or under as of April 30, 2013. 2. The Tournament Director reserves the right to request a legal document showing proof of all players age. Birth Certificates will be verified against rosters prior to your first game. These documents must be available upon request, and kept with the participating teams at all games. II. TEAM INFORMATION 1. Team Size: Teams shall consist of a minimum of nine (9) players and a maximum of 15 players. One (1) manager and up to four (4) coaches may occupy the dugout during the game. If any manager/coach is ejected from a game, no additional coach can replace the ejected manager/coach within the dugout. 2. Line ups: The respective manager shall submit one (1) copy of the line-up for each game to the official score keeper and opposing team 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of each game. 3. Home Team: Home team will be determined by a coin toss prior to the start of the game. The winner of the coin toss will have the choice of being the Home or Visiting team. In elimination play, the team with the higher seed will be the Home team. Home team provides official scorekeeper. III. PITCHING ELIGIBILITY 1. Any player on the team roster may pitch. 2. Delivery of a single pitch constitutes having pitched an inning. 3. Pitchers once removed from the pitcher position may not return as a pitcher in the same game. 4. A player may pitch a maximum number of innings per the chart below. DIVISION INNINGS / GAME INNINGS / TOURNEY Pinto 7U & 8U 2 9 Mustang 9U & 10U 3 9 Bronco 11U & 12U 4 9

5. An official pitching log form shall be maintained by each team. The log must be signed by the umpire at the conclusion of each game and must be presented to the opposing team or Tournament Official upon request. Failure to maintain or present on request a pitching log shall disqualify the team from the playoff rounds. IV. PLAYING RULES 1. A pitcher must be removed upon the second (2nd) visit to the mound. This rule applies to each pitcher that enters a game. 2. Time Limits: DIVISION TIME LIMIT INNINGS Pinto 7U & 8U No new inning 1:30, drop dead 1:45 6 Mustang 9U & 10U No new inning 1:45, 6 drop dead 2:00 Bronco 11U & 12U No new inning 1:45, 6 drop dead 2:00 Drop dead time shall apply in all pool play and consolation games. No drop dead in playoff rounds. Once drop dead time has been reached 1) game reverts back to the score of the last completed inning if the Visiting Team is ahead or 2) score at time of drop dead shall be the final score if the Home Team is ahead. The umpire at his discretion may declare an out for each offense if a team is believed to be intentionally delaying the game. 3. All games are official regardless of length. If Home Team is ahead and batting after time expires, game is concluded and the inning is not completed. Extra innings are played if necessary only if time is remaining. No ties in playoff rounds. Playoff games are played until a winner is determined. There is no time limit for the championship game unless called due to darkness. 4. Mercy Rule: (10 Run Mercy Rule) Mercy Rule applies when one team is ahead by 10 or more runs and at least four (4) innings (3 1/2 innings if Home team is ahead) have been played. Mercy Rule applies for all games including championship games. 5. Batting line-up. Teams may elect to bat 9 players OR bat 10 players with the 10th player being an EH. The EH is considered a defensive position and may switch in and out defensively. Starters may re-enter one time only in their original spot in the batting order. Teams may also bat their entire roster and have free defensive substitutions. If a team bats the entire roster or has no subs when a player is injured or ejected, then an out is recorded only on the first time the player's spot comes up in the batting order. Used subs are eligible to re-enter in this instance only. Once a player is removed due to injury, he may not return. 6. Courtesy Runners Courtesy runners will be allowed for the pitcher or catcher at any time. The courtesy runner will be someone not currently in the game or if the team has no subs, the last out. A courtesy runner may only run one time per inning.

7. Slide or Avoid. To help avoid the possibility of injury, slide or avoid will be enforced at all bases except 1 st base. For plays made at any base except 1 st base, where the base runner fails to slide or avoid the fielder, the runner may be called out at the umpire s discretion. 8. Protests. Protests will be handled by the Tournament official at the field. All protests will be decided at the field of play prior to resumption of the game, and will be deemed as final. 9. No harassment by any team or fans will be tolerated. Each manager will be held accountable for the behavior of his team, coaches, spectators as well as himself. Only a single warning will be given by the umpire. If a second incidence occurs, the individual may be removed from the game by the umpire and, if so removed, must vacate the vicinity of the field. Failure to vacate will result in a forfeit. Once ejected from a game, the manager/coach/player will be suspended from the next game. 10. Intentional walks are awarded by informing the umpire. No pitches need be thrown. 11. No player may be on two rosters. Any team with a player found to have played on multiple teams will forfeit those games in which the illegal player participated. V. TIE BREAKERS Win-Loss Record (tie counts as ½ win, ½ loss) If still tied then: Head to head play (assuming 2-way tie not used if all teams tied did not play each other) If still tied then: Fewest runs allowed Greatest run differential (8 max per game) Coin flip VI. PLAYER UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT 1. Each member of competing teams must wear complete uniforms, including hats, jerseys with numbers, pants and socks. 2. Baseball shoes with metal spikes or cleats are not permitted in the Mustang or Pinto divisions. 3. Batting helmets must include ear flaps. 4. Catching equipment must consist of a full helmet, face mask, chest protector, cup and shin guards. 5. All players must be properly equipped.

6. Big barrel bats are allowed. VII. APPLICATION OF RULES. Any interpretation, application or changes to these rules will be determined by the Tournament Director. The decision of the Tournament Director will be deemed final. VIII. PINTO SPECIFIC RULES 1. Infield Fly Rule is NOT in effect. 2. Maximum 5 runs per inning per team during the first 5 innings. No run limit in the 6th and all subsequent innings. 3. Stealing is allowed. Runner must remain in contact with the base until the ball crosses home plate. PENALTY: The runner will be called out. 4. Runners at 3 rd base may not steal home. A runner from third may only advance on a batted ball or when forced in by a walk or hit batter. If the runner at 3 rd attempts to steal home and is successful, he will be sent back. If the runner is called out on the play, the call will stand. 5. No dropped Third Strike. 6. Bunting is allowed. IX. RAINOUT AND CANCELATION POLICY 1. No games played 100% refund. 1 game played 50% refund. 2 games played no refund. 2. Forfeits and no shows forfeit the team s entire registration fee regardless of number of games played.
