Assemble the Half-Square Triangles (HSTs) Step 1: Pair a 22 Fabric C square with a 22 Fabric J square, RST. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of one square. Sew 1/4 away from both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line, creating two half-square triangles (HSTs). Press toward the darker fabric. Trim to 211/2 square. Repeat to make four C/J HSTs. Step 2: Repeat Step 1 to make four C/K HSTs. Step 3: Sew each HST to an identical HST, with Fabric C edges sewn together. Repeat for all HSTs. Assemble the Log Cabin Center Step 4: Sew Piece 2 to the top edge of Piece 1. Press away from the center square. Step 5: Sew Piece 3 to the right edge of the unit. Press away from the center square. page 5
22 18 14 10 Step 6: Continue in this manner, sewing pieces in numerical order, and always working clockwise around the center square. Press away from the center square with each addition. 6 2 3 7 11 15 19 23 25 21 17 13 9 5 4 The center unit will measure 42-1/2 square, unfinished. 8 12 16 20 24 Templates Step 7: Arrange the HST pairs, Fabric C squares and Log Cabin Center into three rows of three. Note the fabric placement and block orientation in the Quilt Assembly Diagram. Step 8: Sew the units together to form rows. Press the rows to the left in the odd numbered rows and to the right in the even numbered rows. Step 9: Sew the rows together to form the quilt center. Press the row seams open. Your quilt top is complete. Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy!
