THE BLAIRGOWRIE GOLF CLUB LADIES ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Minutes of the Annual Meeting held in the Clubhouse at 6p.m. on Friday, 13 th October, 2011 The Lady Captain welcomed everyone to the meeting. In Attendance; 62 Members and Club Captain, Allan McKay and Vice Captain, Alastair Drummond 1. Apologies 31 apologies were received. 2. Minutes of 2011 Meeting The adoption of the Minutes previously circulated were proposed by Ann Henry and seconded by Elizabeth Fertacz. 3. Matters Arising Amelia Gellatly represented members of the Wee Course, who want to have voting rights but the Captain ruled that a motion would first have to be put forward at the main A.G.M. No meeting can be held in the dining room until 2014 unless all attending eat there after the meeting. 4. Lady Captain s Report The Captain said that it was hard to believe that a year had passed since our last A.G.M. at the Red House and how nice it was to be back in our own Clubhouse, and that so many were staying for supper afterwards. It was with sadness that we record the death of four past members this year Edith Ferguson, Mary McLaren, Biddy Ure and Robyn Yellowlees. Winter League was very disappointing due to the atrocious weather. It was played on just two Fridays in November, before the snow came. Tuesday Bridge proved to be very popular on those days when people were able to reach the Club. She thanked Joy Niven and Noreen Fordyce for organizing this and providing excellent guidance for bidding and play. Christmas Lunch was attended by 55 ladies and the day was a great success and enjoyed by all. As a result of a decision taken at the A.G.M. Secret Santa presents were not exchanged, but generous donations of nearly 3000 were given to two charities PKU and Pancreatic Cancer. Charles Dernie s pre-season group lessons were a great success and oversubscribed as usual.

The Ladies Get-together, an evening of Shenanigans on St. Patrick s Day, was attended by forty ladies. Teams with instructions completed some interesting tasks. Opening Day Captain VS vice - Captain turned out to be a great success with 69 ladies taking part. The result of the match was 11 wins for the Captain s team and 7 for the Vice Captain. The Ladies VS the Senior Gents was a very close match with the Gents winning 4.5 to 3.5 Ladies Invitation Day had 120 ladies competing on both the Rosemount and Lansdowne courses and thanks go to Anne King and Jacqui Landsburgh for organizing the event so well. Lady Captain s Day was a Texas Scramble with 18 teams taking part. This proved to be a very successful format. The weather was kind to us for 9 holes before the rain arrived, but this did not dampen our spirits. The Senior Ladies Invitational took place with 21 groups playing Greensomes. Thanks to Elizabeth Tosh, Laura Mackay and Mari Brown for organizing the day so well. Sundowner Competition had a good turnout with 18 ladies playing. The Committee and Junior Girls played their annual game on the Wee Course. The winning team was Jodie Smith and Jacqui Landsburgh who scored a net 32.75. Past Captain s Day. Fifteen past Captains gathered for golf, lunch and a good chat. Eight on the Rosemount Course and three played on the Wee Course and four others came along for lunch. Mary Hope was the winner of the Past Captain s Trophy with an excellent score of 37 points. Nancy Taylor won the Wee Course event. The Ladies Invitational Tri-Am attracted over thirty teams and over 400 profit went into the Ladies funds. Thanks go to Mary Hope and Gillian Wallace for organising this event. Inter Club Matches proved to be very successful and popular this year. Very many thanks to Mari Brown who organized everything like clockwork. Also many thanks to Susan Arbuckle who led our Scratch League team throughout the year. Wee Course Activities We have done our best this year to encourage ladies to come out to play the Wee Course. We organized a rota of Committee ladies who would be present on a Friday to help Wee Course ladies get signed in and underway. Wee Course Captain s Day record number of ladies turned out for a Texas Scramble. In September the Wee Course Ladies and the Ladies Committee gathered for the annual end of season competition where they played a Texas Scramble once again. Allison Trophy and Catherine Patterson Trophy Competitions were well supported. Book Exchange has proved to be a great success and has raised 55.49 in the first few months for Pancreatic Cancer Ladies Achievements: Congratulations to Gillian Wallace, who beat Emily Aird in the finals of the Blairgowrie Ladies Club Championship. Gillian also managed to reach the semi finals of the Midland Vets Championship at Falkirk Carmuirs. Congratulations to Heather Anderson who plays golf at the highest level and represented Scotland in Vets events home and abroad. She reached the finals of the Midland Vets Championship at Falkirk, Carmuirs and the finals of the Scottish Senior Ladies Championship at Portpatrick and won the handicap and Scratch prizes here at Blairgowrie, during the SVLGA Autumn Meeting. Well done to Liz Tosh, who won the Bronze Championship and Liz Fertacz who won Sophie s Trophy. Emily Aird picked herself up from her defeat at Blairgowrie and went on to win the Strathmore Ladies Championship.

Congratulations also to Alexandra Bushby who won the ladies club championship at Luffenham Heath Golf Club in Lincolnshire. We also congratulate her on her marriage in August to Robert Nisbet. Well done to Dianne Wallace and Sheila Lindsay who qualified for the finals of the Commonwealth Spoons at Milnathort. Muriel Mcpherson was thanked for donating the Strokeplay Championship trophies, which were played for the first time this year for the best aggregate of scratch and handicap scores, over the Rosemount and Lansdowne courses. The winner of the Scratch Strokeplay Championship was Gwen Lambie and the winner of the Handicap Strokeplay Championship was Liz Fertacz. Well done to Muriel McPherson and Nanette Pearson who both played at the Duff House Royal Open Amateur Tournament Muriel managed to cut her handicap with an excellent nett 67. Special congratulations to Gwen Lambie and her mother Carol who qualified for the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes at the St. Pierre Golf Course in Wales last October. This was no mean feat as 190,000 players enter this competition at the beginning of the year. They lost in the semi finals, but went down fighting, taking the match to the 18th green. Finally the Captain thanked everyone who helped and supported her during her year as Captain, especially her Vice Captain, Jean Laburn, who has been at her side and has been an enormous help to her. She also thanked Margaret Kerr for her ceaseless work as Competitions Secretary, the members of the Ladies Commitee and Douglas Cleeton, for his help and support. Also office staff; Joan, Dawn, Lizzie and Marie. Jayne and Paul in the Dining room/kitchen. Bar staff; Jonathan, Fraser, Denisa and Angela behind the bar. 5. Financial Report The ladies account has been closed and the remaining 550 paid for the plantings and 17th greens and for a plaque to be put up to commemorate The Ladies Section bank account has been closed and the 550 remaining paid for the planting behind the 2nd and 17 th greens and also for a plaque to commemorate this gift. Breakthrough Brooch (breast cancer); 22 Clic Sargent; 162 Macmillan; 83 Golf Foundation; 20 Barnardo s; 95 NSPKU; 144.65 Pancreatic Cancer; 144.65 + 55.49 Last year; 440.00 6. Committee Reports I. Competition Secretary After a very hard winter with prolonged snow and ice on the course, with no winter competitions played out, I think we were all glad to be able to get out on the course and the Mad March Medley, the Texas Scramble and Lady Captain VS vice Captain competitions in March all had very good turnouts. A few new competitions were introduced this year. A Ladies 18 Hole Strokeplay Open, and Ladies Open Greensomes

were well received and a two round Strokeplay Championship was held for the first time. Magic 2 s started this year for our ladies competitions and this has been well supported. We prepared a rota of Committee Members for starters for the Wee Course medals and Friday Ball to ensure that all ladies who turned up had a partner and an official starting time. For 2012 it is intended that Ladies Extra Medals will be played alternatively on the Rosemount and Lansdowne Courses every Sunday with ladies choosing their own partners (male or female) and booking their own times, thus encouraging more ladies to take part. The Turn up and play days continue to attract good entries. I collected and handed over to the Club a total of 622 for ladies levies. The book exchange in the Upstairs Ladies Locker Room has proved a great success, the proceeds of which go to the Lady Captain s chosen charity. The Rules governing the Ladies Competitions have a new format which will ensure that all competitions run efficiently and smoothly. The Rules Book is kept in the upstairs Ladies Locker Room for all to see. The Semi-Finals and Finals for the Championships were played this year on the Rosemount Course. Our Champion is Gillian Wallace. Our Bronze Champion is Elizabeth Tosh. The winner of Sophie s Trophy (handicap section), is Elizabeth Fertacz. The winners of the knock-out competitions are as follows; Gellatly Rosebowl - Liz Fertacz and Muriel McPherson Jessie Valentine Trophy - Fiona Johnston Coronation Trophy - Barbara Lyburn Our Strokeplay Champions (with the best scratch and handicap scores over two rounds played in conjunction with two medals, one on Lansdowne and the other on Rosemount) who will each receive a Quaich donated by Past Captain, Mrs. Muriel McPherson, are; Scratch Champion - Gwen Lambie Handicap Champion - Elizabeth Fertacz. The Hilda Hendry Memorial Trophy and the Birdie Trophies will be presented at the main Club prize-giving. My thanks to all who took part in the competitions, sometimes during very wet conditions, and congratulations to all our winners. I hope I can continue to be of service to you and look forward to seeing you all in 2012. II. Match Secretary s Report We were able to play all our matches both home and away, only re-scheduling one Edzell match due to very inclement weather. We have had a good season with 5 wins, 3 losses and 6 draws. I am sure that I am speaking for all the ladies, who played in the matches, when I say that they were all very friendly and sociable. I would also like to thank those ladies who gave up their time to participate in this year s matches. I would also encourage all the ladies to consider playing in the matches next year as they are a lovely way to play new courses and meet new people. III. Scratch League This year the Scratch League was won by Strathmore who narrowly beat Craigie Hill. They had both won 6 matches with 1 loss but on count back, Strathmore had won 1

more game than Craigie Hill. Auchterarder finished third with Crieff and Blairgowrie sharing fourth place, followed by Pitlochry, Alyth and Dunkeld. In the Scratch League team are going to be hotly contested next year and hopefully our nine ladies represented the Club this year and with more single handicappers playing at Blairgowrie, places results will also improve. 7. Appointment of Captain I. Captain Jean Laburn (In accordance with current Rules of Management the Election of Office Bearers, the Vice Captain was elected for one year to become Captain at the end of that time.) II. III. Vice Captain - Vike Brown Election of Ordinary Members of Committee - Gillian Wallace, Margaret Hunter, Katie Chapman, Elizabeth Davie. As no other nominations had been put forward, the Lady Captain instructed the Meeting to accept the nominations and all were duly elected. Jean Laburn, the new Lady Captain thanked the past Lady Captain for all her hard work and innovative ideas throughout her year in office and welcomed the new Vice Captain who was on holiday. She said that she was honoured to be made Lady Captain of Blairgowrie Golf Club and that she would be treading a fine line between tradition and modernisation. 8. Dates for the Diary Turkey Trot; Friday 21 st October Winter league; Stanley Clark Trophy will be played on Lansdowne on the 2nd and 4th Fridays over the winter unless Lansdowne is shut, in which case, it will be played on Rosemount, (holes 1 to 12). Week 1: Draw will be held at 9.50am on Friday 28 th October 2011. Bridge Club; Starts again on Tuesday, 18 th October at 12.30pm in the Clubhouse. Annual Prize Giving; 8pm after meal Christmas Lunch; Will be held on Friday 9 th December at 12pm for 12.30pm. The lunch will consist of a starter, main course, a mince pie and coffee. Donations will again be given to Charity instead of gifts to each other. 9. AOCB Dianne Wallace asked if the ladies handicaps could be capped for the Lyle Trophy. The matter will be brought up at the main AGM on 31 st October. Dianne also asked for the Prize giving ceremony to be before the meal, instead of at 8p.m as some people did not want to be going home so late. There was a question about Lansdowne ladies playing on Rosemount in the Stanley Clark Trophy, on the days when Lansdowne was closed. The Lady Captain appealed for a ruling from the Captain and he said he would put the matter to his Committee and would report back. As there was no further business, the Lady Captain closed the meeting.

10. Presentation of Prizes The Presentation of Prizes then took place.
