Rainbow Tots St Andrew s Day Flag, blue! Annabelle We have been learning all about St Andrew and Scotland. We have made Thistles which is the National flower of Scotland and looked at Scottish flags. We then coloured the flags in. Scotland! Rosie (Repeated language) The children were shown a flag of the United Kingdom. The children listened to an adult explaining all about the different countries. The children were shown the country they live in, England, and they were shown where Scotland is, which is right next to us! The children made Thistles using paper plates and their handprints. We spoke about how this flower is very important to Scotland. We also coloured in some Scottish flags and tried really hard to hold our pencils properly. We also danced to some highland music. Flower, green! Tyreiss We had a good dance to some highland music!

We talked about tartan, shortbread and the Scottish Flag. Look at the Tartan Frankie The children watched a clip on the CBeebies Website about St Andrew s Day and the preparations families make to celebrate. The children on the video put on their Tartan kilts, made shortbread for their neighbour and went looking for Saints. The children chose which activity they would like to complete today. They could weave Scottish Tartan, collage a Scottish flag, colour in St Andrew s day colouring, make a thistle or write a Happy Andrew s Day card. We had good fun weaving and sticking! It s s spikey plant, a thistle Jake Smith We tasted Scottish shortbread for snack We tasted Scottish Shortbread for our snack, we really enjoyed it!

We discussed who celebrates St. Andrews day and why we were making these different things! There are lots of colours Max R2 I ve made a flag Harry R1 I m making a pattern Bella R2

Enrichment Page St Andrew s Day Year 1 We made the Loch Ness Monster out of Play-Doh Frayer Hunter On St Andrew s Day, Scottish people wear their kilts Matilda Graham Year 1 had lots of fun learning about St Andrew s Day and how people in Scotland celebrate. First we watched a video of two boys who live in Scotland who showed us how they celebrate St Andrew s Day and then wrote all about what we had learnt. Next we made our very own tartan in small groups out of different coloured paper. We also made Loch Ness Monster puppets and some children made some models out of Play-Doh. It was so much fun making our own tartan Rafia Poselay

Enrichment Page St Andrew s Day Year 2 St Andrew was crucified on an X shaped cross. Rhys Selvey The Scottish flag has an X shaped cross just like the cross that St Andrew died on! Grace Donovan-Smith The children had so much fun learning about St. Andrew. They watched a video which told them the story of St. Andrew, and then they took part in role play to act out the different parts in St. Andrew s life. After, they sequenced St. Andrew s life and wrote about him. The children produced some amazing pieces of writing! As St. Andrew was a fisherman the children produced 3D fish models out of paper. Finally, the children designed their own tartan patterns thinking about colouring and tone. St Andrew was a very kind man! Lily-May Loynes

richment Page St Andrew s Day Year 3 St Andrew s Day is celebrated on 30 th November every year! Elliot Massey St Andrew didn t think he was worthy enough to be crucified on the same cross as Jesus. Tom Beardsmore To introduce St Andrew s Day, we discussed our knowledge of Scotland and all things Scottish! We were able to locate Scotland on a map and research Scottish traditions. We then watched a video clip showing St Andrew s life. In small groups, we used rolling drama to retell how Andrew became the Patron Saint of Scotland and why he is a significant figure in British History. We really enjoyed watching our video back. We used Ipads to research key questions to find out more about St Andrew. We shared our findings with the rest of the class to deepen our understanding. We used all of the information we had gathered to create an informative fact file all about the importance of St Andrew. What a fantastic day we had! St Andrew was the very first disciple! Billy Walden

Enrichment Page St Andrew s Day Year 4 We found out that St Andrew's flag is the flag of Scotland Alex Ball To introduce St Andrew s Day, we discussed our knowledge of Scotland and all things Scottish! We use our computing time to research amazing facts about Scotland including famous landmarks, famous people and well known Scottish words. We then looked at how tartan is important in Scotland and how it is related to each family. We looked at different types of tartan and discussed the different lines, colours and patterns. We drew a design in our art books using a ruler and pencil. We made the lines different thicknesses and thought about the different materials we wanted to use. Finally, we began to make our tartan. We used a range of materials including tissue paper, crepe paper, card and ribbon. They looked really effective and we had a great time making them. What a fantastic day we had! I really enjoyed creating tartan using strips of paper Ella Westwood

Enrichment Page St Andrew s Day Year 5 I learned that St Andrew was killed on a cross because he was telling everyone about Jesus, Ethan. I really enjoyed creating a comic strip of the story of St Andrew, Fletcher. This week we have been celebrating the Patron Saint St Andrew. We started the week off with an assembly where we learned who he was. We were excited to learn about his life. We found out that he was crucified for sharing the word of Jesus. His bones were then taken from Greece to Scotland. They were looking for the end of the earth. On the spot where his bones were buried, they built a church. They then called the town St Andrew s. We went back to class and created our own comic strip of the story. The children really enjoyed writing the text and drawing the illustrations. We then learned about Scottish traditions by listening to bagpipe music and then even got to design our own family tartan. It was a really fun week enjoyed by all. St Andrew s day is celebrated on 30 th November in Scotland, Jayden.

Alex N After learning about St. Andrew, I thought he was a brave man who stood up for what he believed in. Sophie On Friday 2 nd December, Year 6 spent the day studying the patron saint of Scotland, St. Andrew. We began by learning the story of St. Andrew and attempting to re-write the story in exactly 200 words it was more challenging than we thought! Secondly, we used our IPADS and our skills of using search engines effectively to research and answer a series of tricky questions about the patron saint. During the afternoon, Year 6 spent some time designing our own quizzes using PPT and others began to create a stained glass piece of art depicting St. Andrew. It was a very busy and interesting day!
