K - 12 SNOWSPORTS 2018 Welcome to the Snowsports season for 2018. Winter is just around the corner and it is time to prepare for the 2018 Snowsports season. From the number of students expressing interest in Snowsports, it looks as though we will have a large competitive team. In the past, Oxley College has performed exceptionally well at the Interschools Snowsports Competition in all disciplines. It is not uncommon to have students from Oxley College placing at the Northern Region Championships and qualifying for the State Championships, and then progressing to the National Championships. More importantly, the College has always had an amazing band of students and helpful parents whose main focus is on having fun and to enjoy the friendly competition that Snowsports offers. Please find contained in this booklet all the information you will need to plan for a great season. Inside the booklet, are forms which require completion and are to be returned to the Oxley Sports Department by Friday 4 May 2018.

We are excited to provide information in preparation for the 2018 Snowsports season. Your family is listed as having an interest in Snowsports and I would like to advise that Oxley College will again be entering teams in a number of Snowsports events: 2018 Dates of Interschools Competition Travelplan Ski Northern NSW & QLD Championships Tuesday 10 July Saturday 14 July @ Thredbo Amelia McGuiness Time Trials (Cross Country) Sunday 19 August @ Perisher Trails Amelia McGuiness Time Trials (Alpine/Snowboard) Monday 20 August @ Thredbo Westpac NSW & ACT Cross Country Championships - Wednesday 22 August @ Perisher Trails Subaru NSW State Championships Tuesday 21 August Sunday 26 August @ Thredbo Subaru Australian Championships Wednesday 5 September - Sunday 9 September @ Perisher Participation: As outlined above and in the tables on the following pages are all possible events, participant eligibility and schedules. There is no Cross Country at Regional Level. The Amelia McGuiness Time Trials will be held on Sunday 19 August (Cross Country) and Monday 20 August (Alpine/Snowboard) and these have proven to be valuable preparation for the State Championships. Cross Country is a NSW & ACT State event and will be held at Perisher Trails on Wednesday 22 August. Leave: Our aim is to support safe and successful participation in Snowsports events and enable appropriate leave for students wishing to represent the College. We are also mindful of enabling quality family time and minimising the risks associated with travel to and from events while also preserving learning time. In most cases, the school will allow leave from school for one day immediately prior to and one following the student s events. This is approved for travel purposes. Two school days separate the Amelia McGuiness Time Trials and the State Cross Country events and students wishing to compete in these two events will be granted leave to train between them. Students must compete in Amelia McGuiness Time Trails and the State Championships events to be excused from school on the 20 and 21 August. Entries: On return of the forms from this booklet, competitor entries will be submitted by the Sports Department. By returning them promptly, it allows the Sports Department to plan the number of teams to enter and start the online entry process. If your plans change, we have up until Wednesday 27 June to alter entries. Costs: All expenses are the responsibility of the competitors. We recommend that you organise your accommodation early to avoid disappointment. Race Fees: Race entry fees are $47 per race, per competitor. There is a once only annual registration fee of $30. The fee includes event insurance, administration costs and non-voting membership of NSW Snowsports. Fees will be charged to your school account. Uniform: An Oxley College Snowsports jacket and beanie must be ordered prior Friday 11 May (Term 2, Week 2) and will be available for collection from the Oxley Shop during Term 2. These are available only to Oxley College Snowsports competitors. A cross-country race suit was worn by a few competitors last year and proved popular and a race suit for ski racing is being sourced, however these are not compulsory. For more information on the race suits please contact Katrina Sparke on 0411 763 373 or email her at katrina@redleaf-farm.com. School Coordinator: The School Coordinator is usually an enthusiastic parent or teacher (Nick Wansey will be attending regionals in 2018). School Coordinators are responsible for collecting the race bibs prior to the Championships and coordinating their distribution to Team Managers. Please let the Nick know if you are able to assist. There will be a central time and venue when and where the race bibs will be distributed.

Volunteers (Course Official): For every eight entries, the school must supply one volunteer as a course official. We are obliged to provide course officials to help with the safe running of the competition. The roles are usually Start Marshall or Gate Marshall and last approximately two to three hours for the duration of the event. Volunteers are entitled to a lift pass free of charge on the day of competition. Please indicate on the returnable form in this booklet if you are able to assist Team Managers: Each team (consisting of one to four students) will be assigned a parent team manager, usually a parent of a competitor in that team. The team manager is responsible for the organisation of their team on race day. This includes bib allocation and making sure the team is aware of the location and start time of their competition. Team managers receive a discounted ski pass from the resort for the day of competition. Please indicate on the returnable form in this booklet if you are able to assist. Please do not hesitate to contact the Sports Department if you have any queries. We encourage you to view the Interschools website: http://nswinterschools.com.au/. This website has all the information you will require on Interschools Skiing and Snowboarding. The Interschools Handbook is also very useful and can be found at: http://nswinterschools.com.au/interschools-handbook. Following the completion of events, we would be grateful to receive your quality photos. Please forward any photos taken during events to belinda.dyson@oxley.nsw.edu.au and emma.calver@oxley.nsw.edu.au to enable us to celebrate our student s participation and to be used in future publications. We are looking forward to a wonderful Snowsports season for Oxley College. Nick Wansey Sports Coordinator Kim McNaught Sports Administrator
